What series of games has the overall best songs? I like the Megaman series myself, though God only knows why. I think the music fits the game's pace and action well, for one thing. My favorite songs were the ones in the old Megaman songs. Not bad for 8-bit.

The Lunar games had excellent music. The Thief series has the best atmospheric music ever concieved of. But, for all-round high quality music, it's pretty hard to top the Legacy of Kain games.

DDR, if you like the Rave. Grand Theft Auto, but then again, half of that is mainstream.

Command And Conquer Red Alert Series has some good Tunes.
Kingdom Hearts, the Final Fantasys.
Lunar... Damn, another RPG I beat 99% of the way. I have this bad habbit of stopping 3ft away from the final boss. Thinking that I forgot something important and defeat was 100%

I enjoy the uplifting, final defeats, songs. They cool.
And for other movie sound tracks, anything by Danny Elfman.

Command and Conquer 1 has much better tracks than RA's boring techno.

Diablo/Diablo 2 also has great music.

Legacy of Kain = win. Amazing stuff.

Same with Chrono Trigger. I have midis of it.

The fifa football games have a decent selection of songs. GTA3 would come pretty high in my book too.

I found most of the music in GTA3 to be rather lackluster and uninteresting. The only station I listened to when I played was Chatterbox.

I liked the GTA2 soundtrack too. One song in particular.

Jesus our saviour, my favorite flavour.

Got no idea what it means but it was very catchy.
