Okay, got an idea that you may like

How about requesting a sub froum under Avalon, purely for OOC stuff, rants, personal talk and RP planning / comms, open only to those whom have Avalon access? Then, leave Avalon solely for IC.

A secret Jedi Clubhouse? Mmmm, possibly could be looked on like that.

Or is it preferred to keep Avalon the mix of IC and OOC that it is now?

Me too! We can call it the 'Strategy room' or if you really wanna rip off the X-men, the 'War room' since we weill be planning, ranting, etc.

I just have a small word of warning as far as technical aspects go. There is no way to mimic an access mask from one forum to another, so people being allowed into a new private forum will have to be done on a one by one basis, just as they were for this forum.

EDIT: On second thought it may be possible via a database query to mimic forum access permissions. I will investigate and find out for sure.

That's okay, I can do the work to get the masks done.

But I was wondering, if it was a sub under this one, would not the permissions cascade anyway?

But I was wondering, if it was a sub under this one, would not the permissions cascade anyway? I believe so, but am not entirely positive. The area where access masks are edited does say something about inheriting access rights from parent forums, but I typically find it helpful to be able to see the appropriate "Yes" or "Default" checked for each forum, since as an admin my access mask list is so frelling huge -_-. I've been meaning to try and develop a hack that will display private forum names in a different color in the access mask list so they are easier to spot.

well, if MySQL is anything like other DB's, the parent object does hand down permissions to it's children objects in the heirarchy. So making a sub foum should be a child.....

Hey! Dont you lot look at me so weird! Geek talk!

Anyway, I'd suspect that the initial permission would mimic Avalon's. Then again, I'm not hot on MySQL.
