View Full Version : Thread start / Thread finish ratio (All look)

Alright...something thats been on my mind for a while. We all start lots of threads. We finish very few of these. Nobody likes this trend, because a lot of good storylines die, and the forums become a graveyard for incomplete RPs that clutter the space that other RP's are using. Therefore, some kind of accountability and posting responsibility needs to be in effect.

I think that in order to start a thread, you need to finish a thread. Now, by its very nature, this can't be a concrete rule, as enforcing it would be a number-crunching nightmare. However, as a suggestion among peers, it could work wonders. Say Poster X is starting a thread, but Poster Y reminds him that he still has to post in a pre-existing thread. Precedence takes over, and Poster X works on the thread, eventually finishing it and adding a [Finished] tag to the title. After that, he can now go and do another thread, as can Poster Y. As I said, its not a rule, just a suggestion, kinda like the buddy system...something that we all look out for I suppose. I'm not coming to you as the least of the transgressors. I'm probably the single worst person on the forums about this, and I know I've peeved people off with it before. Just thought it might be a good way of working to get the thread finished numbers closer to the thread started numbers.

Fine with me. Now that I figured the subscribed threads thing because I feel they're misnomered.

You can also write notes to yourself in the control panel in the "My VbPad". :)

How do you subscribe to threads? I remember seeing the option on one or two forums but it looks like it is only available for a few. To be able to subscribe to certain threads would be a God-send for me.

Every time you post, there's a box where the 'show signature' box is that says 'email notification'. That's how you subscribe to threads.

Yuck. There needs to be some way to subscribe without email notification. I turn that option off because its downright bothersome to get 300 emails from this place.

There is. Under the quick reply box is a link which says 'Subscribe to Thread'. You can view threads you're subscribed to in your User CP.

This is possibly the worst idea I've ever heard.

How many of you want to roleplay in one, and only one thread?

That's basically what Sanis is saying. Why am I the only one who disagrees with his love for this idea?

Its just an idea, and no I couldn't possibly only RP one thread at a time. I do try to finish my threads though. Have a few with Pierce that were never completed.. :cry

I know it's just an idea but it's a bad one in my opinion.

The reason threads don't finish can almost never be blamed on one person. A lot of time one person goes away for a day or two so the other person roleplaying moves along with something new with the intent of going back, and then is stuck for time...

And god, nevermind all the OOC problems people go through.

To say that someone can't start a new thread or enter a new thread until they're done the one they're currently in... awful. Cramp half the posters here, nevermind if you were to spread that to aliases. The board would shrivel and die within weeks.

Or maybe I'm crazy. Don't listen to me, whens the last time I finished a roleplay here?

That isn't what I've said at all. We're in tons of threads as is. What it encourages (aka - not compelling) is to finish what you're in already before moving on.

Read and comprehend before posting. I said in my first post that it was only a peer suggestion.

:\

I don't know about this...

WE could be slowing down this place for even more people while making a small group of people do more of the work.

I love how you think subtly calling someone a moron just goes completely unnoticed here.

I read what you said. And last time I checked, people do already tell people they should finish other threads. So if it's already happening, what are you suggesting, exactly? For it to be more adhered to? And thats what I was commenting on. If you just want people to PM other people if they need to make a post... it happens. I have PMs in my inbox regarding finishing threads, and I'm nobody. If I get them, then more in people undoubtedly get them.

In comprehend what you say Sanis. Just because I'm Canadian doesn't mean I'm a stupid lumberjack.

I stick to one thread at a time to give my character an actualy continuity. I can actualy tell what order he did stuff in.

I always try to keep up whenever I can, but it seems that a lot of people don't reply to the threads I'm in so it makes it difficult to continue..

But if the idea is to rp one thread at a time, that would get incrediably boring for me. :\ I'm a multi task kinda gal.

EDIT That last thing was only meant rp wise... Don't get any ideas from it. After reading it twice it sounded wrong. O.o

Ahnk, calm down, Sanis is not spouting anything that is horrible, he is making a friendly suggestion. He said "this is something *I* have to work on." He was making an innocent observation.

Please avoid trying to turn this into a flame fest, thanks. :)

I'm not angry. I just have a foil to flamethrower policy. I don't like people taking jabs at me thinking I'm too stupid to notice.

I'm smart damnit!
