It wasn't. Was pretty good, but Mario Bros. 3 was much better.

Learning the exact moment to jump, run etc in those games was the best. After a while you could do the levels with your eyes closed.

I say Sonic the Hedgehog is the best series of games. But Mario's not bad, either.

Sonic was amazing. But when Tails joined in, I pretty much got out.
The Zelda series was incredible too.

But then again Mario was the first game I ever owned o_O Kinda easy I finished it when I was 3 -_- , and then came mario 2 I hate Mario 2 it's such a boring game and then Mario 3 ^^thats the best Mario ever. Also finished the first Zelda and played a bit of Final Fantasy 1 old classics ^.^

As far as 2D side-scrollers go:

Sonic 2 was great, much better than any of the Mario games. Yeah, Tails was kind of annoying, but I took advantage of the fact that he couldn't really die in a single player game.

The Megaman games were always classics, but always very difficult. X4 for the Playstation was my favorite, but X6 is very close.

Castlevania: Bloodlines for the Genesis was pretty good, but was topped so very well by Symphony of the Night - the greatest 2D sidescroller ever.

A largely unheard of sidescroller for the NES that I was quite fond of was Werewolf: the Last Warrior. Basically, you played a werewolf who had large blades instead of hands. Pretty cool.

Ahh Megaman, I finished all megamans from 1 to 9 and x to x6. So easy

I loved Megaman. Once there was a rumor of Capcom making a Megaman racing game. then Megaman battle network was cool too.

I liked Mario 2, I think it was Miyamoto's weirdest idea. And that is something to say, we are talking about a guy who's biggest creation is a fat italian plumber, who has to save a pink princess who reigns in a kingdom made up of mushroom people.

Miyamoto has said one of his favorite bands are the beatles, I gues the magical mystery tour took him away to a lot of beautiful places when creating this games!

Contra was awesome. It was all about getting that 5-way power-up. Then you were freaking unstoppable!

NES games? Let me see... I never beat Super Mario Bros 1. I almost beat 2, but I could never jump this one gap in some wierd desert level. 3, I nearly beat, but then I got hooked on Megaman.

Mario Bros. 3 was sweet. I loved the hat that turned you into that little Hairy thing that could bash stuff with its tail! That was so cool......

There was that Frog suit. That was a wierd suit. Then there was the hammerthrowing Mario, but I think you could only get him through a game genie code... I can;t remember

Mario kicked ***!

I liked the.. uhh.. racoon suit, I think it was. My brother would get mad at me for messing with NES to play ^_^; Year later, when gameboy frist came out, that christmas he bought me one and Super Mario or something.

I still play mario, sometimes.. last year I bought an NES and picked up the Mario games I couldn't find.
