If this isn't allowed on this forum, go ahead and trash it. I was modding my desktop a little and figured I'd get some ideas if anyone was willing to post theirs.

If you're unsure just goto your desktop and hit "print scr", which is to the right of F12. Then goto into an image editter like Adobe or MS Paint and just paste it.

And yeah... I had to shrink mine down, too. So it's kind of blurry.

I despise icons on the desktop, so I have them all on my start bar, neatly grouped within categories. :)

Nupraptor
Oct 25th, 2002, 11:13:26 PM
I usually like a single row of icons. My desktop looks barren without them. If it gets longer than one row, I start deleting lesser used shortcuts.

I guess I kind of look at my PC monitor as sort of a decoration when I’m not using it, somewhat like a picture on the wall or something like that. My start bar is set to auto hide so when I’m not using my PC, all you see is desktop image.

I don't really like a lot of icons on the desktop either... the basic ones are fine, but I just don't like the clutter created by lots of shortcuts... so, I use auto-hide toolbars. Keeps the desktop clean and allows for quick access to programs and files. :)

Figrin D'an

That would be shortcuts for Winamp playlists... I just changed the icon of each playlist to an album cover of the given artist. :)

And the song by Jewel is called "Everybody Needs Someone Sometime," if memory serves. :)

Same here, no reason to have it look like a computer screen when it can look like a peice of art.

Whenever I finish a new piece of art, I try to make a background out of it. So, I have a new wallpaper about once every week and a half, though this has been one of my most popular. J'ktal is just cool, and I had fun with that one.

"Woman", you keep AIM. Im sick of trying to show people things and so on, and never being able to :)

My current one:

Nupraptor
Nov 2nd, 2002, 10:13:54 AM
That's because people don't know how to configure it properly. She has AIM, Y! and MSN all installed. Trillian is a much better solution.

ReaperFett
Nov 2nd, 2002, 10:17:25 AM
I prefer it pure over all that contaminated stuff :)

And there lies my point. ANyone who isnt some computer wizz always has gaps. So it obviusly ISNT a great program, as you have to have a good knowledge to use it :)

Leeloo Mina

Leeloo Mina
Nov 2nd, 2002, 01:27:18 PM
I almost don't need trillian.. I really only use AIM, sometimes MSN to talk to my brother in orlando.. but I have it anyway, for some reason.. ^_^;

Nupraptor
Nov 2nd, 2002, 01:36:36 PM
Because it uses less memory than AIM to run, doesn't have any advertisements, is fully skin-able and is generally more flexible?

Leeloo Mina
Nov 2nd, 2002, 01:37:52 PM
Yeah, actually.. I think that's why :)

Oh.. and I can sign onto like three+ AIM accounts at the same time without cloning aim :x

Leeloo Mina

ReaperFett
Nov 2nd, 2002, 02:32:19 PM
Yep, its always like that. THINK it is aim theUK flavour. You can try it too :)

You can hack the ad-ware out of AIM, but if you don't know what you are doing, you can screw up the program completely.

I'm a big Trillian fan. Even though I only use ICQ and AIM services, Trillian makes this easy. ICQ is a pretty good program, but I don't trust anything software-wise from AOL... just look at what they did to Netscape.

Leeloo Mina
Nov 2nd, 2002, 02:46:02 PM
Yeah, that's what I did. I made a neat little picture to stick up there. Also changed the logon pic thingy.. took a little bit to figure out where they kept those things though ^_^;

Anyway, Trillian does seem to crash slightly more often than AIM did.. but that's okay, it doesn't bother me too much.. I like being able to talk to diffrent people on diffrent names and such.. Trillian has alot of cool features like that. It took me a bit to get used to it though.

ReaperFett
Nov 2nd, 2002, 02:47:00 PM

19 MB doesn't bother you? For an IM program, that's a huge memory hog. That's about 15% of your system memory if you have 128 MB. That's pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

ReaperFett

Whenever I used AIM it never had any type of ads or popups, either. And I'm not from the UK. Same with Kazaa, when I used the real version (yes, in my days if ignorance), it never had any popups to go along with it.

Leeloo Mina
Nov 2nd, 2002, 08:00:16 PM
I've never had pop-ups with AIM.. but there were always ads on the version I had. And Kazaa annoys me, even the lite version but it's about the only thing I have :x I need to find a better program..

Figrin D'an
Nov 2nd, 2002, 08:49:09 PM
Kazaa has lots of nasty spyware though... there is a way to remove it, but I'd rather just use another piece of software all together.

Melicia Nephthys
Nov 2nd, 2002, 08:59:27 PM
:x I hate Kazaa... It kills my computer. Especially my Gram's computer. It took me 3 days to download a song that's onmy 2 minutes long! and I had a really tough time getting anything else to work while that was happening.

imported_Grev Drasen
