I just got photoshop and I'm totally lost on how to make things look professional like some of the stuff I have seen around here. I've fiddled around with it and came close.. I need some help on how to make it better.

Play around, experiment. It's the best way to learn the basic tools, then go and search for Tutorials that can help you create nifty effects :)

Go here:

www.photoshopcafe.com

It's a great place to learn the basics until you can figure some things out on your own! ;) Just remember, the "Undo" option is your friend! :D

I fooled with it a little more and found some cool affects that make coloring easier. :D

I think I'm pretty handy in photoshop. 2nd pic I colored.

This is a way of saying that I have a few tricks I could teach you if you're interested =p AIM is in the profile.

And sorry about the thread. It already really took off tho =/

LOL Why? I had to fill in the background with something. Besides, I dunno how to get rid of it. I already closed photoshop a half hour ago so I cant undo it.

Unless the sort of textured look is intentional, you may want to use the blur tool a bit on some of the shadows. It looks a bit strange if you're going for anime coloring, which is generally very flat on the characters.

It does, however, look very nice. I wish I could draw.

Hmm... I'll try again on a different drawing, this time not adding the shadows by hand.
