Three hours and thirty-nine minutes of submarine warfare. The directors cut on DVD. On a 61 inch screen with 5.1 surrond sound lemme tell ya, it kicks -DO-NOT-SWEAR--DO-NOT-SWEAR--DO-NOT-SWEAR-. With sixty extra minutes of footage and what is one of the best dubbing jobs I have ever seen done it is a work of art. Despite the slower parts the drama and story and humor make up for it. If you haven't caught the directors cut, I think you should rent it.

I've never seen it but I love the name. Das Boot. Its fun to say. The Boat isn't nearly as much fun.
Maybe I'll rent it someday. :)

Excellent film. I haven't gotten to the director's cut yet, but I will sometime soon. :)

It wasn't so much a war movie as it showed how life was on a U-boat.

Excellent movie, I agree. I saw it for the first time about 6 months ago. Although, I haven't cranked it up since I bought my Home Theater. I may have to revisit this one.
I have never watched the dubbed version. I prefer the German language with subtitles. But that's just me...
