In the coming weeks I'm supposedly getting a cable internet connection installed in my room, and I've been saving up around 500$ or so to upgrade my box a little to accompany it.

Some of you more experienced gamers, I haven't really been into much online gaming due to my dialup I was burdened with for about four years. I'm just wondering what you guys currently are into as far as online gaming goes, I'm for certain I'll be picking up SW: Galaxies when it's released but I need something now.

As in I'm going to eB tomorrow to pick something up.

Suggestions?

No buying hardware from EB. You'll pay up to 50% more than you will online.

www.newegg.com

But first, I really need your machine's current specs and how much experince you have.

You must by Half-Life.
Yes, it is old, yes, it aint fun to play, but there are Mods galore for ya!

Counter-Strike
Day of Defeat
Firearms

are the 3 most played ones. With Counter-Strike being its own game. (Do not buy the packaged CS! Download it!!!) And Day of Defeat soon to follow.

You need Jedi Knight Outcast, Warcraft 3, and Star War's Galaxies when it does come out (Edit: Speed read yours, didn't catch the buying SWG until I reread after posting.) I also recomend buying Star War's Rebellion, if you can find it.
Do not buy Mechwarrior, they have all gone downhill after MechWarrior 2. (my opinion) if you can download MechWarrior 2 with the patches and mods which allow you to play on XP, do it! Then tell me where to find them. I still searching. Unreal and Quake can both be downloaded from the internet, but you might find a bad version. (like I did with Quake) Ok, to recap, here is what you need to buy.

Half-Life
Star Wars Galaxies (Not out yet till december... so sad.... Put a hold on it if you can!)
Jedi Knight Outcast
WarCraft 3

Those are all a gamer really needs. A Shooter, a RPG, a Shooter/Platform, and a RTS.

See our thread in the Expanded Universe For More SW Galaxy Fun and Info!!!

Age of empires, unreal Tournament and Jedi Knight II are really the only things I play online, and they are all excellent.

Give Unreal Tournament 2003 a shot.

A GeForce 2 GTS? Why? You could have picked up a GF3 Ti200 for under $100.

Did you get UT, or UT2K3? The latter may not run too well on that card.

UT.

Been playing it nonstop since I installed and it runs smoothly on the GF2.

If you're looking for online games I'd go for UT2k3.

Sims Online is coming out sometime in the near future if you're into that.
