Let's begin at Raditz. Raditz would have killed everyone, but Piccolo's attack kills Raditz. Of course it kills Goku at the same time. Goku then goes to train with King Kai, and as a result, gets stronger and beats Nappa and Vegeta. Piccolo then takes Gohan to train.

Saiyans that owe Piccolo: Goku and Gohan.

With Nappa, Piccolo takes a shot for Gohan and thus, Gohan lives to go on to Planet Namek and take center stage in the series.

Saiyans that owe Piccolo: Goku, Gohan x2.

On Namek: Frieza transforms. He beats Vegeta and Gohan. Piccolo arrives. He fights Frieza and IS WINNING (He's stronger than all the other characters now), saving Vegeta and Gohan. Frieza is forced to transform again to beat Piccolo. Goku's son lives on.

Saiyans that owe Piccolo: Goku x2, Vegeta, Gohan x3

Later in the Frieza fight, Frieza shoots a beam at Goku that would have taken him out. Piccolo takes the shot instead, so when Krillin dies, Goku is alive to be a Super Saiyan and defeat Frieza. Gohan's daddy is still alive, and Vegeta is no longer under Frieza's control.

Saiyans that owe Piccolo: Goku x3, Gohan x4, Vegeta x2

Now, onto Androids. Piccolo fuses with Kami. While the 4 Saiyans train, Piccolo fights the Androids and Cell singlehandedly, buying enough time for the Saiyans to build their strength and defeat Cell.

Saiyans that owe Piccolo: Goku x4, Gohan x5, Vegeta x3, Trunks.

Unfortunately, I have yet to see Buu Saga in its entirety, so the list ends there.

Yes, but when he does, he goes out like a freakin champ. He is the Rudy of DBZ and thats why I dig him. He totally sucks, but he doesn't know it, and goes totally all-out, and never chumps out :D

No, he is rad, cause he's got spirit :D Thats the real importance. If its about "Who is stronger" then it is invariably always Goku in the end, because he ends up pulling some great way to win out of his -DO-NOT-SWEAR--DO-NOT-SWEAR--DO-NOT-SWEAR-. I don't like Goku very much :p

Its also why Gohan rates so high for me. He's pretty mediocre with the sole exception of Cell Games and the Trunks Special. He goes out like a hero...so oscar worthy :D

that is a cool attitude. He keeps cell pinned for 2-3 episodes. Tien kicks too much butt.

Ug... I loathe the day Funimation decided to bring DBZ to America and "popularize" it. I had seen a lot of it several years back because I had a friend who had imported fansubs of every episode, and he would be watching it every time I dropped in on him. Trunks is about the only character on the show I like.

At least this isn't about Gundam W. That is the most boring show I've ever seen.

Well...I got into it back in '97. I'd watched the series 3 times over by the time it started to "get big" a few years ago. I'm just enjoying a resurgence and watching it all over again :)

saw it during the cell saga in Spanish, I just looked at it for awhile as I translated what I knew then wasn't too sure of it.....asked a friend about it and was shown Dragonball which I watched the videos then in spanish.....then I saw my first glimpse of DBZ in english as Piccolo ki blasted Radditz.....I was all "what just happened?" then went off to the other room to watch some more since mom wouldn't turn it back insisting on watching something stupid as mom does.....from then on I was hooked, watching it in Spanish, Japanese and english....and I know pretty much any little fact about it unless it's one of the movie I haven't seen the full thing yet......
