In Linux, the Gimp is okay. Tho I do set an emulator to fire up Photoshop, which is by far the best. If your really concerned about using freebies oly, then get LInux and enjoy a real slew of good free software, legally. Even has a decent Office type suite, it has Mozilla, which now is better than IE, decent email software that isnt security hole strewn and buggy, And it's got half decent interfaces, some which look like Microsft ones in look and feel. Mandrake 9 is pretty good stuff.

haha@editting my post.

I never mentioned anything about a pirated version, actually. For anything I could’ve been referring to the trial version.

In the future, please refrain from doing so. The trial version is available from Adobe's website.

I prefer fireworks for the final signature output. I feel that PS7 is flat out better for actual sig creation.

Basically they’re all the same (to me atleast), with small differences here and there. It really depends on who’s using the program and if they have enough patience to learn the full potential of the software.

For a beginner to graphic software, I’d recommend Paintshop Pro above anything else. It’s got a simple interface and is probably the easiest to familiarize/learn with.

Adobe Photoshop is built more for advanced designers, and the interface isn’t very friendly for people who are unsure to what exactly they’re doing. I started off with PSP, used it for a number of years then converted to Photoshop. It was probably the hardest thing to switch from Jasc to Adobe, but now I couldn’t picture using anything except Photoshop.

I’d recommend going with PSP for now, and maybe later on switch to Photoshop if you feel the need. But if you’re really committed and willing to have the patience to learn Photoshop, you could probably get more out of it.

Either way- both programs can produce nice work. It just all depends on your creavity and patience.

Nupraptor, sorry about the piracy bit. I wasn’t specifically aware on the rules about that sorta stuff on this board.

Not a problem. The thing is, we have been known to have people from Lucasfilm and other entities that lurk around here, and they have given us some trouble over such things in the past.

I wasn’t thinking at the time. But I realize your position, I’ve known of a few friends who have had their ezboards shut down because somebody would post a link or something that could be classified as warez or illegal material.
