View Full Version : Final Fantasy-esque roleplay. Anybody interested?

Peter McCoy

I was thinking of doing a roleplay that ran similar to the Final Fantasy series, with loads of monsters and enemies to fight, a lot of globe (in this case, galaxy) trotting, an immensly powerful enemy to kill in order to prevent him from destroying the universe/galaxy/world/whatever.

It would require quite a few people, including the "goodies" and their allies, minor villains to make a few reqular appearances, major villains to pop in now and again, the villain's henchmen and lackeys to do his dirty work, informants, townspeople etc to give the heroes that extra push in the right direction. The main villain will be played by me.

The main plot will likely be vaguely discussed between the roleplayers involved in the main storyline. Anybody interested? With dedication, it could be quite epic - just like the FF games.

OH OH OH!! Count me in! Count me in!!!!!! I can do whatever role is needed. :D I'll just make a new account for it. ;) *is bored so HELP!* lol

It's a good idea. Mainly because I'm an FF fan. ^_^

Peter McCoy

Yay!

You don't neccessarily need to create a new account - Riley Chambers is a good FF-style name. I've heard Riley as a boys name but I assume your character is a girl by the avatar.

Lord Gue

Id be there

Riley Chambers
Oct 5th, 2002, 03:41:20 PM
lol Thats exactly why I wanna new account. The boy is too.. bisexual for my taste. o_O I'm thinking something around the lines of Lael Allias Verity.

EDIT I want to draw my character. So I'm gonna do that right now. :D Hehe.

Peter McCoy
Oct 5th, 2002, 03:44:04 PM
Two people, yay! Lots more need though.

What kind of characters are you two going to play?

Lord Gue
Oct 5th, 2002, 03:49:30 PM
the evil minion the main bad guy uses to get stuff done!

Dante
Oct 5th, 2002, 03:54:23 PM
sure.... [is a big Final Fantasy fan.... mainly 8....] im basically a bad guy..... [Ultima! Woomph!]]

I'll be one of the heros. My character's name sounds very noble, so she's going to be nobility.

Peter McCoy
Oct 5th, 2002, 04:01:13 PM
Three people so far :)

Gue, I guess you're gonna be kinda like Seifer in FF8, or Reno in FF7 (the only two FF's I've played besides FF3).

Dante - you in the same boat as Gue?

Dante
Oct 5th, 2002, 04:07:19 PM
Sure. Dante Igniz at your service, as long as you want someone hunted down and burned to death.

General Hein
Oct 5th, 2002, 04:09:09 PM
This is gue BTW, Ill be usin a diff name for this, something more FF-ish hehe

yeah, seiferish

Dante
Oct 5th, 2002, 04:19:45 PM
Igniz is FF-ish enough, innit? but i got an old char who didnt do much originally who could be a help.
Idolon Mortiferus, crazed lab-rat genetic accident. neither use nor ornament.....

i prefer Dante

Peter McCoy
Oct 5th, 2002, 04:22:23 PM
Ooh Dante. Just had a cool idea. How'dya like to be a hitman/hunter for the main villain - kinda like the ringwraiths in LOTR?

EDIT - I think plain Dante is more effective than having a surname. Makes him more mysterious and intimidating.

Dante
Oct 5th, 2002, 04:27:25 PM
sure
[puts on trenchoat, no shirt, leather pants and Doc Martens.]
[selects a really big sword]

Count me in, but I'd rather be an informant, good or evil!

Male or female dun matter, I'm too lazy to log out w/this name.

Kal Jericho
Oct 5th, 2002, 04:39:13 PM
I'll use this character to be the protagonist (like Cloud/Squall). So so far we;ve got two heroes (Riley and Kal), two villains (Dante and Gue) and the head evil honcho (Garrett). Still a fair way to go.

I've got a few ideas for a theme. Expect a nice spot of time travelling in this rp.

Dante
Oct 5th, 2002, 04:39:19 PM
aiiie! may i just say, that pic of Nightcrawler is so darn cute!

so, how many peeps dya need?

EDIT - Kal Jericho? as in the guy from Necromunda?

Kal Jericho
Oct 5th, 2002, 04:43:57 PM
Another one! Where did you come from?

Are you going to be a goodie or a baddie? You seem like a goodie. Or are you a wolf in sheeps clothing?

As for sex, I'd say go with your own. It's easier to relate to (IMO).

EDIT - I only know him from Warhammer Monthly - I just thought the name was cool; I don't read it though. I think he is from Necromunda though. Not 100% sure.

Dante
Oct 5th, 2002, 04:46:46 PM
yeah... i might have a few pics of him if u wanna see what he looks like.

he has cool dreadlocks

And if'n ya need more goodies then sure.

Does that mean new name? I have some laying about *digs around Fans*

Give the character a sexy name! That's what this rp's all about. Debauchery!

Well, maybe not what it's ALL about! :crack

EDIT: I'm off to bed now. I'll be back on tomorrow sometime around midday. (it's midnight here now).

Have a think about some of the stuff you'd like to do in the rp and post it here for me to read tomorrow, or PM me. Whatever's easier. G'night everyone :)

Hmmm, I could of Sworn I had already given a link to the Chocobo Remix thing already here once before...

well anywho, Count Me in, I want to be a sub boss which is off the main quest but if you defeat me, you gain something that will really really help in the final battle. But as a sub boss, I am just a tad short of Imbossibly Hard.

(Note To All: From what I understand, this is NOT a final fantasy RP as in magic, same charachters, etc. This is just a Star Wars RP BASED on the Final Fantasy Story lines. I.E. Bunch of people questing for an Ideal, get pulled into something bigger, and wind up saving the world.)

Vega Van-Derveld
Oct 6th, 2002, 03:27:46 AM
From what I understand, this is NOT a final fantasy RP

Yep, I think we're just questing, like you said. So that would mean no General Hein, but you could have a character similar to him. I mean all of the FF games have prototype personalities which they apply into every game, just changing the image really, so you just need to take on one of the personalities - ie. silent leader guy with a sword, loud mouth hyper active guy, the heroine/damsel, cocky sub-boss, egomaniac/insane main boss, loyal sniveling servants to the main boss, etc etc

General Hein
Oct 6th, 2002, 05:12:43 AM

heh. why not just say its AU? that would solve any probs of the characters being on opposite ends of the galaxy/having to team up with people they wouldnt usually team up with.

that is if anyone is using an existin chara....

Vega Van-Derveld
Oct 6th, 2002, 06:30:18 AM

Peter McCoy
Oct 6th, 2002, 09:23:47 AM
Hello again everyone. A few more people I see. Excellent. I'll just draw up a list of everyone involved so far so I can start thinking about the story.

Garrett (Me) - Main Villain
Kal (Me) - Initial Central Protagonist
Riley Chambers - Protagonist ally
General Hein - Villain lieutenant
Dante - Villain lieutenant
Mahvash - Protagonist ally
Lael - Protagonist ally?
Makoto Neosis - Protagonist ally/neutral?
Grev Drasen - Neutral?
Darth Snack - Antagonist?
DarthHERA - Antagonist?
Vega Van Derveld - Antagonist
Dark Lord Dyzm - Antagonist-guardian type...thing! :)

Have I missed anybody out?

Question - who's Lael? Are you Riley? I'm confused.

Anyway - still more people needed. Although we could get them once the RP's started. And I'd prefer it if you decided whether or not you want to be a good guy or a bad guy. No good me putting you on a side and in the middle of the rp you're not happy with it. You COULD change sides, but it'd have to be planned in advance to make it interesting and perhaps controversial in the storyline.

Right - input people! What do you guys want to get up to in this adventure? (Here's were my experience as a gamesmaster and storylteller for SWRPG and Vampire: The Dark Ages and Vampire: The Masquerade RPG kicks in.) If I'm going to design the shadow plot then I need suggestions and ideas and requests etc. One element I want to incorporate, which I mentioned before, is Time. Time travel and time manipulation. I'll expand on that theme as I get input. So start talking.

Lael
Oct 6th, 2002, 09:30:18 AM
Yeah I'm riley. LOL Its okay, so am I. ^_^ *pats you on the head*

Elena Van Derveld
Oct 6th, 2002, 09:41:15 AM
I think playing it with a storyteller, or narrator, would be excellent. It'd be way to hard for us to keep on track otherwise. Plus that way the GM/ST could introduce little plot points and clues that the characters are supposed to find out, or maybe that they don't know yet.

One element I want to incorporate, which I mentioned before, is Time. Time travel and time manipulation.

FF8 style? That'd be kind of cool, to have some elements of the 'elusive time kompression'. I think we should have some sort of Lifestream/Jenova element too, that always seems to work well :)

I have a good idea for my character which I will PM you about, Peter.

Garrett Blade
Oct 6th, 2002, 09:47:14 AM
Plus, it would allow me to play the parts of other characters who we don't have roleplayers for, such as an old bum on the seafront who happens to know the secret whereabouts of an object that the characters need to get to the next part of the adventure, only he turns out to be the guardian of that very item, and won't give it up without a fight!

Elena Van Derveld
Oct 6th, 2002, 09:48:47 AM
Exactly! It'd be pointless to have an account registered for every NPC. Sheesh, you'd need thousands for the rate FF games go through them.

BTW, is this going to be set in the SW galaxy? o_O

Peter McCoy
Oct 6th, 2002, 09:57:59 AM
In the SW Universe YES
In the "Star Wars" locale NO

If I set it in a place nobody knows about in the SW universe then it gives me more leeway with what's going on politically etc. And if it's in the SW universe then it's still familiar.

I'll elaborate in about 30 minutes - dinner time.

Dante
Oct 6th, 2002, 10:15:19 AM
hm.... whats the deal with magic/weapons.... i mean, i set people on fire, its just what i do....

Elena Van Derveld
Oct 6th, 2002, 10:19:59 AM
Oh yessss... what do we do for that? Materia? Maybe when we start each character could pick something to specialize in, a la the early games - black mage, white mage, thief, fighter, etc and then choose maybe one or two spells ? :)

Xenodoros Stormrider
Oct 6th, 2002, 10:21:40 AM
Interesting........

If Lance wasn't in his small break, he'd be the first one to post here.

Peter McCoy
Oct 6th, 2002, 10:36:53 AM
Hmm - that's a good question. In the FF games things were all about numbers really. But that's a cause for argument on the boards. So I think it would have to be qualitatively different. So the different magics would be relatively the same in terms of damage caused, until things such as strengths and weaknesses played a part. Eg mechanical things are weak against lightning, ice monsters weak against fire magic etc.

Dante
Oct 6th, 2002, 10:46:45 AM
coool.
so what is it then, choose one type of weapon or magic or somehting?

bags i Black Mage... [Ultima! Woomph!]

Peter McCoy
Oct 6th, 2002, 10:57:26 AM
For weapons I think so. For magic, it depends on the character. To get the classic FF feel for things, it'd be unfair to limit the protagonist (goodie) party to one kind of magic, since that's not how it was in the game. As for antagonists and bosses/guardians etc, it's more limited but more characterful. So I'd say it goes on alignment. The further away from neutral you are, the less magic variety you have. But with limits could come benefits, ie specialist magic only one or two have. This will have to be clarified with me though. We can't have somebody with amazing magic out of the blue. And it can only be used at thew dramatically appropriate moment. The one thing that wa sbad about FF was the fights. They looked spectacular but got tedious. It was like "Oh look he's using Ultima. Again!" ESPECIALLY when fighting Sephiroth on FF7. That damn Supernova spell was so long and tedious - he used it on me 4 times!

So the better the magic, the less uses methinks. But I'm not going to start keeping track of MP and spell numbers as it detracts from the fun of the roleplay. Just be sensible.

Makoto Neosis
Oct 6th, 2002, 11:04:29 AM
Magic's touched, what about the GF/Summons?

Dante
Oct 6th, 2002, 11:06:57 AM
ooh ooh! summons would be cool!
say that the planet were on has guardians or somehting... so they attach to us as we arrive or something... i just really want an Esper!

Elena Van Derveld
Oct 6th, 2002, 11:07:21 AM
I don't think we need Summons really. They're just like powerful spells, we could probably do without, plus it'd save the confusion of who gets which summon - since there should only be one of each - and such.

Peter McCoy
Oct 6th, 2002, 11:11:12 AM
I'd rather make that a plot device/story aspect of the roleplay. Maybe give the heroes one or two they can summon from the start, and they can get more as it goes on. As for the antagonists, they can have guardian forces (I'd prefer not to call them that in the roleplay though) if they wish, but only one per individual antagonist. And they can only be summoned once per encounter, preferably at the dramatically appropriate time. Again, this must be discussed with myself if you want to use it. We can't have the heroes killed off at the start of the adventure!

Dante
Oct 6th, 2002, 11:15:52 AM
true.
and if a charas killed off here, do they die in the other rps as well?

Elena Van Derveld
Oct 6th, 2002, 11:16:18 AM
Maybe the heroes could 'draw' GF's from some of the sub-bosses/lieutenants, like with Fuijin and Pandemonium :)

and if a charas killed off here, do they die in the other rps as well?

Doubt it.

Peter McCoy
Oct 6th, 2002, 11:20:04 AM
Definitely not. This won't affect other roleplays. Too much will go on to incorporate it into or merge it with the rest of SWFans. It will therefore allow things to happen that would affect the rest of SWFans in a big way, but won't, so we can do pretty much whatever we like! :)

Change materia to something like Sith Force Crystals, and find a way to purge the Darkness out of them so you can start using them.

Question on my Guardian Status, I was thinking, lets not make this RP as simple as FF1, we need it complex, turns, twists, etc.
So, can I start out as almost an Advisor? Poping up every once in awhile and then attacking once, before disapearing until you fight me again later in the "game".

I have a Zakatiel Rhinehart account. (True name of Dyzm)

Peter McCoy
Oct 6th, 2002, 01:08:49 PM
Kinda like the Dungeon Master in the cartoon of "Dungeons and Dragons"? He was amazing! :)

I'm not having materia. We need SOME originality in this :)

I think in order to learn a new spell you have to witness it being cast - similar to the Enemy Skill materia in FF7 - and then learn it over time, which may require a teacher .

You don't have to create a new account unless you want to. It could be a fresh character under the same account if you like. Safe to say you'll be able to develop things mych better if its fresh from the beginning - this will be very long.

Minty fresh or dryer fresh? Just kidding, lol. But I'm pretty sure that it would be a lot easier to just have a new character(not necessarily a new account) because you can do anything without having to worry about past things you did in other RPs or what not.

Okay I've started the thread, entitled "FF 1: Turn Of The Time"in the Roleplaying Forum. Remember, this will be a multi-thread roleplay in order to keep things comprehendible. One large thread would be off-putting, whereas multiple threads breaks the entire tale up into manageable chunks. Enjoy! :)
