In one of these threads I read somebody mentioning how movies/television had a big impact on their roleplaying, and I was thinking the same thing about music.

What kind, if any, music do you listen to when you're roleplaying or writing? I usually put on my 'non-lyrical' playlist or otherwise the words will throw me off.

Scottish bagpipes usually... or some spiritual junk with yelling/chanting.

I have a playlist of tracks that fits some of my characters.

For Vega it's a lot of alternative and rock [Rammstein, Pearl Jam, Fuel, Megadeth, Metallica, etc]. For Dasquian it's Enya, Celtic and Panpipe stuff. For Salem it's a lot of more gothic rock, electronic and synth stuff [Cruxshadows, Bella Morte, Gary Numan, Stabbing Westward, etc].

Anything from Final Fantasy (usually 6, 7 or 8) gets me in the mood too.

(LD, your pic looks like she's checking out her pits... ya know, "Sure? Unsure?") :D

But back to the topic... I usually listen to classical, mainly a shoutcast (online radio) station, but I've been known to listen to anything from Al DiMeola to Barenaked Ladies to Dave Matthews Band to Jaco Pastorius to Jethro Tull to Kevin Gilbert to Moxy Fruvous to Shpongle to Tool to Yes.... you get the idea. :p

I usually play demonic music for any of my sith characters. Movies? I'd have to say some of the scary movies hold a role in how my characters act, but not much. Like Resident Evil, Carrie, and some others that I can't think of right now.. I'm tired and cranky... :p

I listen to alot of Techno and Hard Rock when writing my characters. I only listen to classical music in my car, it keeps me awake.

*Gets Layla stuck in his head.*

Great, now that song is stuck in my head, again!

And on my Birthday too....

*Drowns Layla out with the new Disturbed.*

Portishead is great music to write to. I usually just shuffle through 3k some odd songs to find something I'm in the mood for right then. For example, right now its Arvil 14th by Aphex Twin.

The original is good. But the unplugged version allows you to hear the guitar part better. I like the 17 minute version of Inna Gadda Devita personally.

Whatever happens to come up on my playlist, or I just click though until I find something that fits my current mood. My mind can multitask quite well, so I don't post to a limited set of songs or musical genres. I don't associate my personal mood with my IC personality or actions.

My musical tastes are quite diverse... but that is another subject entirely.
