View Full Version : Our Son, Chase.

Chase Starwalker
Sep 16th, 2002, 07:42:26 AM
It is with greatest regrets that I inform you that our son, Daniel Chase Cannoy, died in a car accident on September 15, 2002. Chase was a 19 year old college student who loved life and his family. He was an avid lover of Star Wars and mentioned this website on occasion to his friends and even us. Looking through his computer we found it book marked under "My Favorites." Chase and two friends were involved in an accident Sunday night, seatbelts saved the lives of the two young men with Chase, but even his could not save him from the drunk driver of an SUV. If you have any comments, they are always welcome. [danielmccoy912@hotmail.com] We invite you all to be a part of it, because Chase was a part of so many people.

Thank you for filling Chase's life with happiness and a love for something he shared interest in. Please drive carefully and always wear seatbelts! They save lives.

With Love,
David and Melissa Cannoy

Ive only come into contact with Chase a handfull of times. Seemed like a nice guy and he was respected by many here. Im very sorry to hear this news and my thoughts are with the Cannoy family. I too lost someone close to me not so long ago so words really dont count for much but I do think they help. Chase will be sadly missed but I know he will remain in our thoughts.

I think in light of this event, I should write an article in Chase's memory. If there's anyone who has a memory of Chase or a favorite RP they did together, or even just a little something about their well-wishes for his family, please send it to me via e-mail at either searsbt@vcu.edu or admibrancrissean@hotmail.com if you would like it included in the article.

I dont think words are adequate enough to express my sympathies for your loss. I never knew Chase, and have only read some of the roleplays that he did, but his loss will be deeply mourned here, as Im sure it will be with your family and the other peple and places who had the good fortune of knowing him, or being touched by his presence throughout his time on earth.

I have to admit that after reading your message, I needed to take some time to process this, and to accept it. I can only hope and pray for your family. May his memory always live on and give you some peace in this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

The vast majority of us come here and Role Play Star Wars to get a temporary escape from reality and have fun interacting with others in our virtual cyber world created by our own imaginations. Thankfully its pretty rare that something such as this comes along and sends us all crashing back to reality with heavy hearts and great remorse.

Being the case that I have lost more than one friend to the evil that is drunk drivers, please know that you have my most profound sympathies and spiritual support. I think I speak for most of our community members when I say that a piece of our community has disappeared this day, a piece we will all miss, and keep in our hearts as a fond memory.

My best wishes to you and yours.

Chase epitomized all of the good traits of this online community. He made it better simply with his presence, and everyone here who knew him is a better person for having befriended him. He will be missed by us all...

May it bring you comfort to know that he brought the same happiness and enthusiasm to all of us that he himself enjoyed. For that, we will always be grateful.

My heart mourns for you, Mr. and Mrs. Cannoy. Words cannot express my sympathy to you. I lost my best friend to cancer in April....so I know how it feels to loose someone you love.....but I cannot even begin to fathom loosing a child.

Chase was such a good guy....he had a big heart and was always there to offer laughs to those who were feeling down....and a hug (even if it was only through the computer screen) to those who needed it.

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers....and may God grant you peace of mind and heart. He was an exceptional RPer and a great writer......and he was loved here. Forever we shall remember him.......

May the Force be with you Chase.....we love you......

Lessons to be taken to heart. If you live your life with regrets, know that you are guaranteed nothing in your existence here on Earth. Live each day as if its your last. Never let the sun set on an argument. Cherish friends you have, and mend your fences as you can. If there is a burden on your heart, let it out. We never know when our time will come. Each day, taste life in your own way. In our mundane lives, we can too often get caught in the drudgery and monotony, and forget the things that make us who we are. Live, and never forget that you never get a second chance at the game called life. We all stumble and fall, but as long as we are here, there is time to make all things right. Nobody who talked to Chase in the days prior to this thought that they'd never talk to him again. If we did, maybe we would have said something else...if only to tell him that "Hey, I'm glad to know you." No doubt he was loved by his parents, and had friends amongst him. We too often measure success by what degree we have, or how big of a paycheck we bring home. If you love somebody, and are loved, you are rich. Now, he is in the company of God, and His eternal love. Who can say if he was prepared to be called up. We can only remember him, and our rememberance is a fitting testament. I never really talked to Chase, apart from the occasional interaction. He was a good guy, and I hope I treated him as such. I carry the regret of not knowing, and I can't get to know him further. So, to those holding onto the cliche of having all the time in the world...you're gambling away your lives on a cosmic roulette table. There is only one constant in life, and that is that it will end. We will never know when, until the day we are called upon. So, to those who see this, whether you knew Chase or not, remember that the only way to face death without regret is to live. If we all remember this, it will bring more comfort than a thousand condolances, or a million tears shed.

I would like to add my personal disgust at anybody who even considers driving while under the influence. Yes, I drink somewhat frequently, but I will never make such a callous and irresponsible mistake as to get behind the wheel, and neither should anyone else. I've lost enough friends to DUI-related accidents, and I abhor it with every ounce of my contempt. Be responsible in your actions, and know there are consequences that effect not only yourself, but those around you.

I wish I knew what to say. Many times we forget that there are real flesh and blood people behind the screen names and that they too have lives that are fragile. Unfortunately it often takes something tragic to remind us of that.

My deepest sympathies go out to your family and friends. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish there was more I could do. *hugs*

Chase - He was an honored and respected Roleplayer of this community. His writing skills were above average -- and played his character with life. Not only will he be missed greatly on the boards, his death will leave a gaping hole in many lives. He was a friend to many.

Mr. & Mrs. Cannoy, words cannot even describe the possible grief you feel at this moment. He wasn't just "a friend" to you - he was your son. I deeply bestow my sincerest apologies to this tragedy and wish you both the best.

Man... we used to talk quite frequently on aim. He once asked me if he could make a Cloak character as if it was some big deal... I'm not going to be rping for awhile, this is really a huge shock to me, and I've been wondering about him lately. He would listen to me complain about senseless mundane things all the time... he was a very compassionate person, it's far to... For all the worthless lives on this planet it really pains me to know that a good person died, most of all because of a careless, hopefully guilt stricken human.

I never knew CHASE, It seems as though I have missed out. There are things that happen in life that seem so unfair. Why do the good die young, Why does God let bad things happen to good people, those are question's to answer noone knows. But one thing I do know, There is a better place than this old world. That place is heaven,JOHN14:1-3

Let not your heart be troubled:ye believe in GOD, believe also in me.In my fathers house there are many mansions:if it were not so,I would have told you.I go to prepare a place for you.And if I go and prepare you a place for you , I will come agian and recieve you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

John 3: 16

For GOD so loved the world that he gave his ONLY begotten son, that whom so ever believith in me shall not parish BUT have ever lasting life.

I know in a time like this those passage's may seem like just words, but let me tell you they should be words of pure comfort. we are all fit for forgiveness we all have that promise of everlasting life through Jeasus Christ. Even a poor pathetic sinner like me.

My prayers go out to you, I pray you have the strength and the courage to get through these trying times. I can Not imagine what you are going through but I know that you can make it through it. I have yet to have kids, but the thought of loosing kid's I yet to have scares me more than my own death ever could.I do not know if you are a christian family , or not . But nontheless I will say a prayer for you and keep you in them for day's to come.

I'm so sorry to hear about Chase. I have only been here for about 3 or 4 months now, and he was one of the 'veterans' that showed me the ropes of the forums. Friendly and personable, I enjoyed our interactions quite a bit. He was a great communicator and excellent writer--an imaginative dreamer.

Nothing I could possibly say would really change a thing; I just hope that my words and my condolences can be yet another testament among many of how truly irreplaceable Chase is. He will be missed--even by the many who may have only shared thoughts or roleplayed with him on these forums.

Dear Mr and Mrs Cannoy...

I am at true lost for words here and am struggling now to type. My boyfriend Jason, that RPs here as well just told me about this tragedy. I will not lie, I am crying right now as I am typing. I have known Chase since he came here. We were close as friends could be online. If you know Star Wars, Chase had asked me to be his master, the one that trains him in our little RP world. In Character and out of character he was a good friend. Your son was sweet, funny, just an all around great guy. He will be greatly missed.

My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to your family at the tragedy of losing your son.

As the parent of a child here at the forums - yes, he is "my child", no matter that he is an adult - I can only say that my heart is breaking along with yours. Losing a child is the worst parent's nightmare. If only we could keep them in cocoons!
I won't try to tell you that time will ease your pain, because it won't. Just try to remember, when the pain gets to be too much, that Chase is in a better place. No longer can the evils of this world, of which drunk driving is just a tiny part, hurt Chase.

I've tried (to little success) to attempt to organize teachers and local community business leaders to try and oppose drug decriminilization movements here. I've cited alcohol and the deaths it has led to, through alcohol poisoning, neglect, drunken violence and motor vehicle accidents caused by driving under the influence.

The number one cause of death for males aged 17 to 40 in my province is motor vehicle accident, about 80 percent of which are due to an irresponsible choice made by an individual to drive under the influence of a drug. Things have gotten bad enough here that any bar owner who sees an intoxicated person attempt to leave can now detain him, and force him to take a cab home, or face criminal charges. If you get caught driving under the influence, you lose your liscense for six months. If you get caught again, it's 12 months, and finally life.

Driving under the influence has always been a problem but it stems from a bigger problem; our population is increasing and as it does, stress builds. This leads people, often earlier in life than before, to drugs and alcohols. My brother was a regular smoker of marijuana at 12. I see kids at parties I go to where alcohol is served, who are 13, 12, sometimes even 11. The biggest problem with this is that all drugs, marijuana, alcohol... they're all dependents. Once you start, you can't stop. This has been proven by doctors in my province but the government pushed forward with legalization of marijuana for political reasons.

But then I hear this. A man, a year, maybe a year and a half older than me, died because of an irresponsible son of a bitch... and it's not about politics, or statistics... people are dying. And I think that often gets glazed over by revenue predictions and police budgeting. Young people are being killed everyday by someone who is supposed to be responsible enough to make judgements on wether he is intoxicated or not. The fact is, no one is old enough. No one is responsible enough.

Now, I know none of this will soothe your grief, and that nothing I say will have any effect on you, but we all have to do our part for the betterment of the world and humanity that occupies it. If everyone would be selfless enough to look at the larger picture, drugs and alcohol would be illegal. Nothing that chemically alters your brain should ever be legal anywhere but hospitals. The risk is too great... the price, is too high.

Another son falls to evil. Chase, though we only spoke once, and you didn't understand a word I was saying, you are a respected member of this community, loved by many. It is not fair that you should be prevented from the best years of your life by an inhuman, heartless bastard. I hope you savoured what you had, and have no regrets.
