IIRC, the way it's written, it states that you're not supposed to eat while the sun shines. I know several Jewish people who like to grab a quick snack the moment it gets cloudy. :)

Yom wha? Eh... well, this is what happens when you don't pay attention to religion. Not that I'm atheist, but I just believe in God, don't need to believe in anything else or prove it by fasting. But to every man his own way of believing.

Good luck. *eats cheese burger*

I've held up for an hour an 15 minutes. I'm happy my parents are in a lazy mood and didn't take us (my sister and I) to Kol Nidre which is the services held tonight for like 3 hours.

I'm feeling thirsty. You'll probably get hourly reports from me till I go to sleep then from when I wake up. And I'll in great detail describe my feelings.

9:34 Eastern Time - Mouth is beginning to feel slightly dry, the meat I hate a few hours ago taste still lingers. Otherwise, I'm fine.

I usually fast during Lent, even though I am not (currently) Catholic at the moment. My best friend is, and I've done so for a few years, just as an act of faith. Fancy becoming a vegetarian for 40 days :x

Lilaena De'Ville
Sep 15th, 2002, 11:53:27 PM
You don't have to fast during Lent, just give up something, right? I gave up caffiene last year for Lent, because one of my guy friends thought it would be good for us all to give up one thing, even though none of us were Catholics.

He gave up movies. Poor guy. I can't remember if he lasted or not.

Commander Zemil Vymes

Yeah, just give something up. I always give up meat though.

Should give up carbs. Tsk.

Good luck Nav and Lebron. :) Don't take it too far, Nav, you ARE sick so be careful. ALSO...is it against the rules to drink water? I can't remember.

Sep 15th, 2002, 11:57:38 PM
I always drink liquids when I decide to fast :) Thanks for the tip though Lebron :)

I give up meat because meat is expensive, and usually involves fat grams, unless you're having a lot of cold cuts and fish. I make up for my protein gap with tofu, occasional peanut butter, and a supplement, every once in a while.

*pats them both on the head*

Now, enlighten me, I don't remember what the purpose of Yom Kippur is. All Jewish holidays and such are to remember things in your history, so whats the story behind this one? *sits at their feet to be taught*:)

And if you don't know, shame on you ;)

Nupraptor

It could be argued that all Christian holidays are evil Big Business schemes to sell lots of trees and egg-colouring. ;)

Lilaena De'Ville
Sep 16th, 2002, 06:41:35 PM
Thanks Lebron and Nav :D

And yes, I agree. 'Christian' holidays have been "secularized" to the point where they're almost unrecognizable as what they actually are.

Comes from the Catholic church taking familiar pagan holidays and turning them into their own holy days. That, and businesses trying to make as much money as they can.

I learned that lesson very well during football. Preseason workouts...you have to find something you can eat or drink that won't be nasty on the way back up. Because one thing is guaranteed...you will puke out there.

Korik Bannor

OJ and hot soup may be more settling than pizza. At least that is what I prefer while sick. :)
