Not sure if anybody heard but Wolfgang Petersen is making Homer's epic the Illiad into a movie and they have already cast one of the major characters. Brad Pitt will play Achilles

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=848&ncid=790&e=6&u=/variety/20020913/film_variety/film_pitt_dc

He is a pretty good choice overall, now they need to cast the other main characters
Agammemon
Hector
Odesseus
Helen
Paris
Ajax

Hopefully the movie will live up to Homer's epic tale.

:D

Although did you hear how Pitt ditched the movie "The Fountain" and everyone is up in arms, because it was two months before shooting and now all the staff/people are out of work and displaced and very pissed off? Tsk tsk! He should be punished for that. Prima donna antics.

I hate when actors act like children. I mean they get paid enough to act like adults.......

The story of the Trojan War is great. I've read several versions(yes they all are BASICALLY the same) and eagerly await this one.

Hector was always my favorite character...I hope they cast him well.

I love the Trojan War too, and I can't wait to see who they chose for the rest of the characters, I have always liked Odesseus myself he is a great character. Hector is great too, and according from what I read he will be treated very sympathetically in the movie, Agammenom is going to be the villain. He was visious in the novel, he sacrificed his own daughter, which did him in, as his wife plotted to kill him when he returned. He also treated Achilles pretty bad too, as I recall.

It seems that a lot of the studios are going back to film or re-make some of the older tales. Which isnt necesarily a bad thing but it seems that we've hit a low point in originality lately. There a few good ones out there and coming up but its not the legion that Im used to seeing.

Seems to come and go in cycles.

There also seems to be a lot of historical epics and mythological films coming out, so far I know of
2 film versions of Alexander the Great (one starring our boy Leo)
Hannable (which is rumored to star Vin Disel of all people)
a Remake of Jason and the Argonauts
and a remake of Clash of the Titans (hopefully this time they will make a better movie.)

JMK
Sep 19th, 2002, 10:51:48 AM
Well, I wouldn't say he's a girl, but maybe a *delicate* boy. He could use a couple battle scars I think. :)

He's no Patrick Surtain or Sam Madison though. ;)

Sene Unty
Sep 19th, 2002, 12:22:06 PM
What do you mean he is delicate!!!!! The way his half closed eyes lead you to believe he is sleepy, while he is really just pondering the existance of life! The way his hair sticks up saying "I KNOW PAIN". He is a tortured soul people!!!!

But your right JMK he is no sam madison.........:D

Lilaena De'Ville
Sep 19th, 2002, 10:22:54 PM
Don't know don't care!

On to more important news: When are they going to cast the rest of the...er...cast? For Troy, that is?

Sene Unty
Sep 20th, 2002, 10:04:11 AM
From what I have heard he is questionable for Sunday, but that doesn't mean he wont play. I don't want them to put him in until he is 100%. They will need him more for the Patriots in two weeks then they will for the Jets. I'm hoping we crush them on Sunday.....we need to in order to prove that we can go the distance.

Jedi Master Carr

Hector that would make since, Bana could take on that part.

ReaperFett
Oct 3rd, 2002, 01:50:14 PM
WHo's Hector? :)

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 3rd, 2002, 08:59:34 PM
Hector was Troy's greatest warrior and their hero, during the battle Hector is killed by Achilles, is the main point in the book Also I wouldn't call Hector the Villian as that role will be Agamemnon (the Greek ruler of Mycenae) but he is a very ruthless person in both the book and in this screenplay.

ReaperFett
Oct 4th, 2002, 10:32:26 AM
Yeah, he can play that :)
