View Full Version : Box Office Contest Week 18 The Final Weekend

Jedi Master Carr
Aug 28th, 2002, 04:03:29 PM
Okay last weekend, and this will decide the winners. Also it is Labor Day weekend, so count 4 day totals as the points will be doubled. Only one new movie this weekend Fear Dot Com, not sure if it can duplicate what Jeepers Creepers did last year on Labor Day. Okay you have until 9Am Saturday to get your votes in good luck.

Man...it feels like just yesterday I was beating you all...:\ :( :cry

Jedi Master Carr
Aug 28th, 2002, 07:38:33 PM
The weird thing is how many times 1st place has changed hands, Sir Dizzy was first in the beginning, Yoghurt passed him for a week or two, you, Lebron was first place for over a month, then I overtook you for two weeks than Yoghurt regained the top spot now, Quandinaros is in first going into the final, it will be interesting to see who wins.

Marcus Telcontar

Box Office Mojo for me.

Admiral Lebron
Aug 28th, 2002, 08:04:16 PM
Why do you bother posting Marcus? You shoulda just said in the beginning you want Mojo's answers all the time. Ugh.

Jedi Master Carr
Aug 28th, 2002, 08:09:55 PM
Well if that is what he wants to do its no problem for me, though his Mojo pick, beat mind, I was thinking I had #4 down but forgot that Mojo picked it 4th.

Quadinaros
Aug 29th, 2002, 03:34:02 AM
Just my opinion, Marcus, but you could at least go to Mojo, copy the numbers, and post them here. That way at least your picks would be easy for everybody to see, and it would appear as if you were somewhat involved in the contest. I'm not trying to be rude, but as the contest winds down, this may be something to consider for next summer. :rolleyes

Jedi Master Carr
Aug 31st, 2002, 01:20:29 PM
I figured FearDotCom would finish fourth or around there considering its a horror film, last year Jeepers Creepers surprised everybody on Labor Day.

Well if those numbers stand I am thinking its going to be very close, only me and CMJ have the five in order (of corse Fear Dot com could go up or down Sat and Sun) so it looks like it will be very close come Tuesday.

Master Yoghurt

I think feardotcom will have a terrible weekend multiplier..

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 1st, 2002, 09:52:08 AM
It could it is hard to say, it won't finish higher than 4th I am certain than that, and if it does it still won't make 10 million for the 4 days.

You might still win, we won't know till Tuesday, I think its a three way race unless CMJ or Lebron wins all five movies, those are the only other possiblities.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 2nd, 2002, 01:09:50 PM
Here are the estimates for the Labor Day weekend (4-6 are very close so I don't think we will know who wins until tomorrow)

1 1 Signs Dis. $16,515,000
2 4 My Big Fat Greek Wedding IFC $14,598,000
3 2 XXX Sony $13,100,000 -
4 3 Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams Mira. $7,300,000
5 N fear dot com WB $7,120,000
6 7 Austin Powers in Goldmember NL $7,075,000

Man Signs keeps making money, I think it will easily pass AP3 soon and become the 3rd highest grossing film so far. And look at MBFGW I think its guarenteed to make 100 now.

Well Congrats Yog, you did the best job guessing, IMO. Finally it might not be that long to the next contest, if you guys are interested I am thinking about doing a Holiday one, it would only be two months deal that is if you are interested, I haven't completely decided if I will do it or not but if the same ones who did this one want to I will post it up probably starting Nov 1 until New Years, I will let you all know if I can do it or not.

Just wondering, but if Marcus went with mojo's predictions, and nearly all of us beat mojo, what does that say about their predicting abilities? ;)

Master Yoghurt
Sep 9th, 2002, 10:58:23 AM
I'd say, some of the posters here are at least as accurate or better than the 'experts' at predicting. Box Office Mojo was ok at calculating drop offs, but really bad at predicting weekend openings for example. The experts may give a vague indication on what a movie is going to make, but it just wont work copying the numbers.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 9th, 2002, 11:57:03 AM
Mojo is more accurate than Lee and Guru, but still he is off like you said Yog.

You also have to remember that this contest isn't won by having accurate predictions, but by posting predictions that will give you the best chance of winning points. Mojo doesn't think about our predictions when making his own. ;) I think he is overall a very good forecaster of box office.
