I was looking through BestBuy's website cause I'm planning on picking up the LotR dvd with my next paycheck, and I found two versions, aside from the gift pack that cost like $50 something.

They're both the same price, but one reads "(P&S)" and one doesn't. Maybe it's nothing major, just wondering what the difference is.

P&S (Pan and Scan) is chopped down to fully fit your TV screen, while the other is the original Widescreen format.

I should've known that. Which is best (in your own opinion), it really doesn't matter to me. Unless one has better quality or whatever.

WIDESCREEN - do NOT get P&S. Always get Widescreen

I take it P&S reduces quality?

You miss things going on in the peripheral with pan & scan.

But with widescreen, you don't use all of your screen capacity.

Its pro and con either way, but I prefer widescreen

Yep, with widescreen you see everything as it was origginally intended. P & S cuts out some of the content.

Pan & Scan is just wrong... especially for a film like FOTR with so much wonderful periphery landscape...

Widescreen all the way... :)

I'd rather cut my left testicle off than buy FOTR on P&S.

Okay, maybe not quite that far, but you get the idea. Get Widescreen only

Considering one of my cats got left AND right testicle cut off this weekend... and with one of them that had never "dropped", the poor bugger got cut open, and then stitched up - it's suffice to say "he" aint feelign the best. So I could quite well imagine right now what the removal of a testicle would be like.

That just highlights the desireability of FOTR on widescreen. P&S is akin to having only one testicle.
