View Full Version : About sig size regulations

I had my sig removed from a thread the other day because it was over the file size regulations, that's fair enough but I did try to reduce the file size to 30kb and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get it below 34kb without it messing up the text, below that and the red text really does look awful.

I have a proposal - for want of a better word - to make, taking into account the avatar size regulation is fixed at 15kb, I noticed that my avatar for Gav is only 4kb and I was wondering if people in a similar position as myself could substitute avatar file size for sig file size. If needs be, I would suggest that perhaps a maximum subtitution from avatar to sig size could be 5kb, making an accaptable combination of a 35kb sig and a 10kb size avatar.

What are people's thoughts on this?

Well ... honestly ... that would make for more work again for me as a mod checking sig and avatar size. Considering the avatar has a limit, that is why we went with just a sig limit.

Have to say been sooooooo nice not having to check every image ... and doing what you suggested would be a lot more work again. :)

Just letting you know :p Not saying we can't do that.

Dale is right, its a lot more work checking every image a poster has rather than just signatures.

I was able to reduce your sig to 30 KB with no significant loss in quality that I can see.

Yours is probably better, my looked garbled up when I tried to watch it in my browser. Could be just me though, looked fine when I previewed it, oh well. :)

Macromedia Fireworks would be good for image filesize reduction. :)

I'll have to get that, Photoshop was messing up the text.

Gav, you must remember, the limit was thirty to both. It was stretched. It will snap in time :)

Oh shush you! :p

You're only picking on me because I don't have Macromedia Fireworks! :cry

It was only changed in the first place because limits can be placed on avatars which are automatic, thus saving mods from having to check the size of sigs and avatars and adding them together to see if they exceeded the limit. The policy is now sound and simple.
