Jedi Master Carr
Jul 24th, 2002, 09:45:44 PM
Okay in the last two weeks we all have basically bombed (with the exception of Jedieb and JMK scoring 65 and 70 points respectably) so we all need to get it going. Okay your guesses are due in Saturday by 9AM EST. Only two new movies this week Austin Powers 3 and Country Bears.

Admiral Lebron
Jul 24th, 2002, 09:55:28 PM
Country Bears will be number 1!

Box office Mojo I guess :)

Jedi Master Carr
Jul 24th, 2002, 10:14:36 PM
Lebron if you go with that guess, I predict that you will lose your lead.

Admiral Lebron
Jul 24th, 2002, 10:16:17 PM
Or, it'll be like the last 2 weeks and I'll get ahead...:)

Country Bears will kick Austin's rear.

Jedi Master Carr

I guess after last weekend nobody has courage to make there predictions, though I don't either yet, I am going to wait until tomorrow, I am still trying to figure out how much AP3 will make, its difficult for me since, I didn't even like the first one.

As much as I'd liek to predict that AP3 will make less than 33 million, I just can't go for it.

It's the only game in town, the hype has been tremendous, and my own personal youth demographic focus group, ( a kid at work), is actually planning on seeing it.

I went by the theater ans they had 2 sellouts for AP3 - along with a bunch of non sold out shows.

AP3 opened with $27.1M and SL2 comes in second with $3.3M. That's a ridiculous margin! It's as if AP3 is the only thing people are going to see. It looks like $60M is a lock. I wonder how close it will get to $70M. I wanted to have the highest guess, but JMC went all the way up to $73M. Depending on Sunday, we may both have guessed too high.

JMK
Jul 27th, 2002, 08:28:43 PM
All I know is that I went far too low.

Jedi Master Carr
Jul 27th, 2002, 08:37:39 PM
I'd say it does 70-75 so its between us Jedieb, of course it could do worse on Saturday and Sunday and do less it will be interesting to see, I do think a lot of people went out to see it on the first day and don't see it doing more than 27 on Saturday, maybe 25 which would still be great.

Admiral Lebron
Jul 27th, 2002, 11:29:22 PM
YARG! I wanted to put 67 Mil but didn't think it would gross that high. Cos thursday made less then AP2's thursday. Screwed over yet again. :(

Darth23
Jul 28th, 2002, 11:01:48 AM
CMJ could have a shot - if the estimate is REALLY too high.

Master Yoghurt
Jul 28th, 2002, 12:44:30 PM
Weekend estimates:

Goldmember - 71.45
Road to Peridtion - 11.02
Stuart Little 2 - 10.7
Men in Black 2 - 8.7
K19: the Widowmaker - 7.33
Country Bears - 5.21
Mr. Deeds - 4.2
Reign of Fire - 3.34
Minority Report - 3.13
Big Fat Greek Wedding - 3.01

Jedieb
Jul 28th, 2002, 01:09:38 PM
If that estimate holds I'm going to be freakishly close. I just had MIB and SL2 switched. Lucky, lucky, lucky...

Jedi Master Carr
Jul 28th, 2002, 01:30:12 PM
Looks like I turned out to be too high, and you will get it Jedieb you should win this weekend, I didn't too bad, I should get SL2, right and maybe Road to Predition if the estimate is really low (it was last weekend) But I be happy with 30 points it would get me that much closer to :) And Jedieb it looks like you are going for another late run like last year.

Marcus Telcontar
Jul 28th, 2002, 05:30:42 PM

Think so. Thise were the predictions I could find.

Jedi Master Carr
Jul 28th, 2002, 09:52:34 PM

JMK

Wow, I am surprised I thought for sure you would win #1 Jedieb, I didn't see the actuals going up 2 million, I thought I won SL2 as well, but I will let CMJ look at it all, I would rather let him decided since he is unbaised.

Jedieb
Jul 29th, 2002, 05:44:05 PM
We were both pretty close, but you're going to be off by only a few thousand, congrats. If I hadn't gotten 3 & 4 switched I would have been the only one with the correct order. Oh, well, I'll be interested to see what the points will look like.

Jedi Master Carr
Jul 29th, 2002, 05:53:00 PM
Well we were the only ones who saw it making over 70 so we both new it was going to be big. Now the question is this weekend Signs comes out and it is going to be big too and the according to Box Office Mojo it is the second most anticipated movie after The Two Towers by comparrison AP3 was 5 going into this past weekend. Ads for it have been everywhere, so it will be interesting to see, it could do anything from 45-80, IMO.

JMK
Jul 29th, 2002, 05:56:20 PM
Call me crazy, but I think I may have Perdition sealed up. :D

Jedi Master Carr
Jul 29th, 2002, 06:10:31 PM
You might but I know like 4 people are close to that one, that is probably why it is taking CMJ so long :D

That is why I wanted you to do it :p, man I had a good week and now am in first place for the first time I think, still its a log jam in the top 4, 20 points sepearate 4 of us and JMK who is 6th is only 100 points behind me, and is sneaking up on CMJ. Man it is going to be an exciting final 5 weeks.

Admiral Lebron

Jedi Master Carr
Jul 29th, 2002, 06:34:00 PM
Lebron, you are still in it, there are 5 weeks left there are 4 of us that have a chance and CMJ and JMK both could jump over us if we aren't careful because of the log jam.

Admiral Lebron
Jul 29th, 2002, 06:34:54 PM
Yes...but I'll be in like 348 place if I don't get points :(

Jedi Master Carr
Jul 29th, 2002, 06:38:18 PM
Well you can't think negative really, the next two weeks should be easy as far as getting the #1 movie right you have Signs (which should topple AP3), and XXX the next two weekends, you also have Spy Kids 2 and some movie with Eastwood, not sure what else is coming out after that.

ReaperFett
Jul 29th, 2002, 06:39:05 PM
Once Upon a Time in Mexico isnt far off

CMJ
Jul 29th, 2002, 06:41:54 PM

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

JMK
Jul 29th, 2002, 06:45:00 PM
I'm really kicking myself over the big fat ZERO I got a few weeks ago for not being able to get my guesses in on time. That's my gift to all of you. :p :p :p

CMJ
Jul 29th, 2002, 06:51:50 PM
Kyle...it's worse to have a big fat ZERO when you DO get your guesses in. That was me last weekend. :p

Admiral Lebron
Jul 29th, 2002, 07:00:58 PM
Why can't Yog, Carr, and anyone else near me get 0's? :(

JMK
Jul 29th, 2002, 07:03:22 PM
:lol Yeah I bet. I'm working under the generous assumption that I would have racked up 20-30 points in that week and been on the cusp of the top 5!:p

Admiral Lebron
Jul 29th, 2002, 07:04:51 PM
Its not fair. :cry :cry

CMJ
Jul 29th, 2002, 07:06:02 PM
It's rather amazing that I'm in the top 5 after my bad little spell.

I'm gonna have to do some careful analysis this week. Gotta get back in the fight. ;)

sirdizzy
Jul 29th, 2002, 07:30:23 PM
my last good weekend was the first 2 weeks of the contest

JMK
Jul 29th, 2002, 07:32:17 PM
Who's dropped out of the contest?

Jedi Master Carr
Jul 29th, 2002, 07:32:46 PM
I think you are still in the top 5 because the last two weekends before this everybody but a few people tanked, except Jedieb and JMK who had great weeks I think like 65 for the two weeks, it got them out of the bottom half. I did bad too the last two weeks, I think I had 10 points the last two weeks, if I had done better I could have a huge lead right now. Now its going to be close, and I think this coming weekend will be interesting, it will be interesting to see what Signs does. It has a lot of buzz and ads are everywhere, I know a lot of people who want to see it, it will open at #1 for sure at least at 45 million but it could go as high as 80 I think (it depend on the theater count) but really it could be one of these movies debuting in the 50's that have very low drops, so it is really hard to tell.

Edit

JMK, I know Mcbain dropped out basically I guess and DBN told me he wasn't doing it any more, there have been a few people who have missed a week or two.

Mu Satach
Jul 30th, 2002, 06:14:11 PM
Any prize for coming in last? ;)

CMJ
Jul 30th, 2002, 08:10:45 PM
Yeah, you get to be ridiculed until next summer. ;)

Jedi Master Carr
Jul 30th, 2002, 08:23:15 PM
Well unless Mcbain makes another prediciton he will finish last so your safe there :p

Admiral Lebron
Jul 30th, 2002, 10:39:31 PM
I should win cos I skooled you all for like weeks. :)

JMK
Jul 31st, 2002, 07:33:00 AM
Yeah, well the Emperor schooled the galaxy for decades and look where he ended up! :p

Admiral Lebron
Jul 31st, 2002, 11:20:08 AM
Yes well...the emperor was evil and like 90. I'm not evil ask anyone and I am like 75 years younger.
