If you are looking for points to each thread .. then I guess we'll have to have each poster put in a stipulation with each new one :mneh

Besides, I don't go into OOC much but when I see a thread that IS nothing but spam .. I make a note.

I am too busy moving threads and deleting things in the other forum to notice much of what goes on in here :lol

I figured this was Sanis and Fett land. I guess me right ;)

Heh, have to agree with Harry Potter on this one. It's alright to post something funny or witty, but posting something random and not explaining why is not fun :p

Also in case you didn't know the definition of spam, at least in internet terms, is mail/ or a message that is sent/posted over and over again by the same person.

Also in case you didn't know the definition of spam, at least in internet terms, is mail/ or a message that is sent/posted over and over again by the same person.

Not quite true. The first spam was corssposting offtopic on newsgroups. Like all Internet definitions, the term has morphed to also include email mass massings that are unsolicitated, to dumping offtopc and useless comments on message boards. Now the last is also technically known as a Crap Post and a whole amount of them is called a CrapFlood.

Also, my friend told me to post it so I did

If your friend told you to jump off a bridge, would you?

Actually I did this to make a point. Notice how the mods/higher up people can make silly pointless threads and not get yelled at.

ever thought it could be because that on the whole, the people you desribe have also given back to the community that we are, that they normally post good stuff and hence get leeway? If your so bent about it, go the the Arcan IV trading post and crap flood all you want and post complete nonsense. So your point is mute. You do not give to the community in return, you dont participate in any great manner, so you should expect to be smacked down.

I don't know about the rest of the staff, but I don't really post pointless topics. Usually, my topics are links to something I found amusing during my travels across the internet. :)

Also, if he had made a post like that in another thread, it would have likely gone unnoticed. Starting an entire thread - which is supposed to be a topic of conversation - and then not providing a topic to converse about, is pretty pointless.

ReaperFett
Jul 20th, 2002, 07:31:33 PM
But doing it in someone elses is jijacking, and can be unfair to the initial poster :)

Morgan Evanar
Jul 20th, 2002, 07:57:35 PM
You do not give to the community in return, you dont participate in any great manner, so you should expect to be smacked down.

Mark, you post just as much garbage as the rest of us. For example, your school got burned down. Whoop-de-doo. Thats a hair above this thread.

Anyway, Jehova's thread did indeed have a point, and Fett said it -- there is hipocracy here. Most wouldn't dare say the same thing to Charley if he posted the exact same thing, or if I posted it, for that matter.

Now that I am done, I will return you to your regularly scheduled heap of junk that is the OOC forum.

Lilaena De'Ville
Jul 20th, 2002, 07:57:35 PM
What is jijacking?

And Mark, my comment was to everyone.

Now I'm leaving.

Marcus Telcontar
Jul 20th, 2002, 08:25:49 PM
Morgan somedays you should reall yunderstand and read what I say before you post. What was my point again please?

The point again, unless you are now so blinkered and your not bothering to understand what I write anymore, is that there is no denying everyone posts crap. Where the diffrence is, is that people who have been around here a long time have participated in this forum for a long time and generally in a worthwhile manner get tolerated

It's not a hypocracy, its a fact of life. If your normally worthwhile, then you get looked differently if you do decide to do something silly or idiotic. A waste of Oxygen most of the time will be called that all the time, even if they break their mold and do something worthwhile.

Loki Ahmrah
Jul 20th, 2002, 09:03:58 PM
There is hypocrisy, yes, but if you're naive enough to believe that everythings good and well with the world, please wake up. I'm going to defend my own opinions about this thread now that there's some backlash. To be quite frank, it all boils down to opinion.

Not long ago, Sanis/LL posted a thread which went something along the lines of:

"Attention British People...

...I am wearing Union Jack underwear, that is all."

Now that didn't bother me because it gave me something to talk about because I am British and it became quite a humorous thread. Whether or not this thread was made as a test for hypocrisy cannot be proven aye or nay but as far as I am concerned the innitial post didn't interest me in the slightest and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't annoyed at it because at the time my connection was acting up.

I think there is some harsh truth in what Marcus has said; it's not a nice thing but it does seem to be that you get what you give to the community and yes, it's an unfair ideal but it is an unspoken one that seems to exist. Whether I agree with it or not I am yet to decide.

Anyway, bottom line was I found that the first post in this thread wasted my time and I am not going to pretend it didn't and I don't see why people shouldn't voice their irritation at it if it exists. My two cents.

ReaperFett
Jul 20th, 2002, 09:06:05 PM

And I think you all should be burned at the stake for arguing about this silly little thread. :)

Loki Ahmrah
Jul 20th, 2002, 09:10:59 PM
I know, my point was that as far as I am concerned it isn't who posts the thread, it's if the threads content can give me something to reply to and in Sanis's case it did, me being British, I found something to say. All this conspiracy theory about long-standing/popular posters is a load of my foot.

See my above comment. I believe however you have some semblence of common sense and you do have something to say that is worthwhile, even if sometimes I am convinced you reply just to be contrary - you also add to the conversation in your own way that is funny and sometimes maddening. Your a known person and that is why you are not belted down woith a 20ft pole arm.

Maybe Jehova should be looking at himself for the reaction he got and whether that it has been his behavior over a known length of time that prompted the reaction he got. The simple fact is, as I have said, you get what you give. If your percieved to be a waste of space, then you will be treated as a waste of space. If your seen as someone worthwhile, then you will be treated as such. This goes for me, Reaperfett, Loki and every single person that graces this board. Some people see me as a oxygen theif for their own reasons and to be honest, I really dont care. That's your opinion and your free to have it. Some see Reaperfett as a waste of Oxygen. Big deal, whatever.

If you really want to get away with a lot, prove yourself as a person who can be allowed to get away with a lot. We sure as hell aint here for anyone else but our own reasons and I sure as hell aint doing stuff to please others - I post for my own amusement and because I think maybe something can be commented on for be laughed at - if you differ on that opinion, fine by me. If your complaining about how your being treated, then backtrack and look at your own behavior first.

I thought it was suck-ass and lame, so I said as such. I'd comment as such on the sleeping with the admin thread as well, but it would get lost in a deluge.

As far as matters of policy, I become 2 people...

Charley the Person, who likes some of you, and doesn't like a helluva lot more...but thats because he's damn ornery anyways.

Charley the Mod, who cannot see colors in the ass spectrum, and thus treats matters as equally as possible.

If I'm being an ass...then you're likely not doing anything wrong here. Don't take it as gospel, but its a general good rule to follow.

Guys and gals - Do you like when you make a post, and some jerk that lives thousands of miles away FEELS like putting their two cents into the purpose of your thread?

I sure as hell don't!

And what do I have to say to that - tough titty! I'll be damned if anyone suggests I keep my opinion to myself. You've just stcuk your two cents in here just like we did, we're all entitled to it regardless.

As for this:

LV stuck it to y'all! I'll explain:

Argument: Thread is spam because it has no point.

Point of Thread: All of your arguing about it's point, or lack thereof. (Many posts long, and one HOT issue at the moment!)

Conclusion: Thread did not turn out to be spam because it served a purpose. Thread has right to stay!

That's the blatently obvious though. Right, now for the paradox:

Thread has no point to begin with and as such irritates people or wastes their time.

People voice their opinions regarding the purpose of the thread (something which you don't like).

Discussion flares up about a relevant issue because people put their opinions forth thus turning an irrelevant thread into an interesting one.

Yourself and LV ask what are we complaining about then?

Answer: We cannot predict the future and therefore had no preconception of what this thread would become once we voiced our opinion.

If we hadn't voiced our opinions about the purpose of the thread it would still be pointless.

There's your paradox: we complain - thread becomes worthwhile discussion but others complain we are laying the "smackdown." We do not complain - thread remains pointless. Others are happy, some aren't.

It's a lose-lose situation for everyone regardless of what had happened. Don't you just love these nice long-winded discussions.

argh thats not my point. there is a line in strategy games between realism and game balance. fighters are on that line. they need to have shields to represent that half the things fired at them wouldn't hit anyway. BTW summon is right about there being too many ships which are variations of eachother. How about some ship gets micro photon torpedoes as a low-mana (like 25 or so) spell and thats all it has? that would be interesting to see and it would add variation. also Excelsiors shouldn't be detectors; Tachyon grids are supposed to be difficult to set up and they are the only things that can detect cloaked ships.

he's...uhhh...burning in hell... he's dead now, eh? you know---those authors should all be shot.

Why is your flaming wookie icy? One of lifes great mysteries.

I'm not really sure Lou, when I ended the fued the other time with them at even wins, they ended up not going up or down. I didn't even get a post fued response.. maybe 3 wins is a stretch, but I don't want an even fued at 20 wins each to not draw any heat at all. Maybe it'll be a different situation maybe not.. I might cut it down to a 2 win spread, if that may help it some.

Which brings me to another point... I'd like to try and arrange some online Messenger game sessions again... and since the player numbers are so far down again, it might actually be possible to do to try and speed up some game play stuff again...
