Even if my wife thinks its a baaaad waste of money, I now hpre order LOTR:FOTR on DVD. The release date is Aug 6 here , tho the place I get my DVD's from is thinking they may get the preorders a day or two early. I feel like a big kid waiting for Christmas

Oh and racked up 20 viewings of LOTR last night. Man, I have wasted some time watching this thing..... 6 in the theatres, 14 of the rip I have.

Fun. Yeah I'm getting two copies when it comes out. The movie release and the special edition. Why you say? Why not!

I really really love the film, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend the money to get it on DVD twice. I preordered the Extended Edition due out in early November. I may rent the August release DVD, but that's it.

I will be getting the Extended edition with the Argonath book ends. That's supposed to be like 5 DVD's.

So that's 3 different versions right? Any idea on the price of that 5disc set?

About.... 60 US cents to the Aussie Dollars I think

Same as us just about then :)

That is near $60 then

To be honest, I believe it's worth every dollar.

Geez, the Canadian dollar and Aussie dollar are pretty close to the same, so can I expect to shell out $80 for the 5 disc set too? That's more than some box sets I've bought!

Still be worth it. Well..... I think so anyway

Well I'm not so much into collectibles, and I don't care so much about the National Geographic special, so I may go with the extended edition. The biggest thing that bothers me is that the DVD will be encoded with Dolby Digital EX and my receiver won't decode that. :(

For preorder, the US prices are something like this:

Collector's Set (5 discs, bookends): $55-$60

Extended Edition Set (4 discs): $30

August release: $20

For the Extended Edition, my order totaled to a little over $35 US with shipping. That's pretty good, really, considering it's a 4 disc set.

That set should be between $50 and $60 for me, which is probably the ceiling for me considering there will be a box set released at the end of it all.

"I really really love the film, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend the money to get it on DVD twice."

I have to agree, hehe, ironically (even though some people think I am personally loaded, I do try to conserve money...). I love LOTR, but can I wait a few extra months? Sure I can. Lots of other stuff to do too. Now if it were Star Wars, that's a whole different story. I'm a sucker, a lemmings, for Star Wars, but not for anything else. :)

Then you know what I'm like for LOTR. Hell, I'm going to NZ next year to do a LOTR tour and I'm putting the dollars together to get some replica props. A replica Sting or Narsil is too good to pass up :)

I read part of the first book in the LOTR series...and stopped dead. Didnt care for it one whit. And I havent seen the movie and probably never will. Absolute, zero drawing power for me. Sorry, Marcus.

I would however, go to NZ with you. Sam Neill is from there. :love *sigh*
