Not sure if anybody else saw his comedy special on HBO but it was hilarious, the man is just insane it got a little vulgar (not as vugular as Carlin but still) I think that special shows that he should be considered for hosting the Oscars (I think he can eliminate the swaring) people have questioned if he could do a full 4 hours well he handled nearly 2 and he would probably have to talk that long for the Oscars.

I'm really looking forward to seeing "One Hour Photo". Anyone have any idea when this comes out?

"Insomnia" will be coming out here soon, I'm very excited about seeing that and as for the Oscars I have to say Williams is definately the man for the job and get rid of Billy Crystal; I think he's so bad and terribly unfunny. Keep Whoopi Goldberg and get Robin Williams in there, comedy gold.

Nonononono, dump Whoopi in the skip they found those missing Oscars :)

I saw bits and pieces of it last night. On the whole, it was a pretty good show. I don't think it was as good as Carlin's last few specials, but still very funny. I thought his routine was really good when you consider how long he's been away from stand up. Comedians like Dennis Miller and George Carlin have never really left the road or performing. Williams has been away from a stage for quite some time. It's got to be difficult to come back after a few years and put on a show that was as good as the one he did last night. The bit he did with his arm "Ladies, does this look familiar?" had me in stiches. I don't think anyone can improvise as well as Williams. I look forward to catching the whole show later this month.

Williams is brilliant at improvising and Jedieb did you catch any of the bit on golf? That was one of the best parts of the routine, it was really hilarious. I also liked how it took shots at everybody politically from Strom Thurmond to Ted Kennedy he said Kennedy looked like Jabba the Hutt, that was really funny.

The Scottish accent/golf bit was a riot. I caught the Jabba reference as well. That was a prety long show. Most comedians will only do an hour. He was on stage for over an hour and half. I guess when you're on Broadway you've got to give people their money's worth.

I saw the Live on Broadway thing last night. Funny as hell. You're right, it's extremely vulgar but funny.

Oh, I think he could well and truly put on a long performance. The man is insane - and anyway, 10 minutes of Williams at full bore is worth far more than any 4 hour snooze fest with Whoopi.

I really think they should get him to do the Oscars he would be great he would put some life into the show that it really needs. Really only Crystal had done a good job in the last 5 years IMO, but his act has now gotten old so we need somebody new who could top it.

Apparently, Eddie Izzard was in the running for last years. If he did his own stuff, that'd be awesome :)

I would love to se Williams do the Oscars, that would be tops. I'd also like to see Billy Crystal return. he always does a bang up job, Steve Martin was good too, but not as good as Crystal, better than Whoopi.

Crystal has been great but he keeps saying he doesn't want to do it anymore, Williams is a great choice IMO, he is the funniest actor out there.

Williams gets the job hands down, he has my vote. Billy Crystal actually said in his interview "Inside the Actor's Studio" that if he was at his fastest and best one night, Robin Williams will be faster and better any night. I agree, Robin Williams has an ungodly wit.
JMK
Jul 15th, 2002, 07:30:47 PM
I would vote for Williams too. He's taken some crappy roles over the past few years (can you say Jakob the Liar?) but when he's on, he's on and no one is as funny as he is. He would get my oscar host nod.

He was creepy as hell in Insomnia. Just when I think he can't be any creepier...he's worse in the trailer alone to One Hour Photo. That movie is really really twisted looking. I can't wait. It shows versatility in spades that Robin Williams can move away from the funny guy typecast. My favorite is still Patch Adams though

The re4al problem with Williams is not his ability, for he is very talented and I like him a lot. It has been he has been in movies that just have not suited his style.
Loki Ahmrah
Jul 18th, 2002, 10:12:25 AM
What movies would you say don't suit his style?
I love his more serious films such as Bicentenial Man and What Dreams May Come.

His serious films where he tones himself down are the ones that suck. Good Morning Vietnam was serious, but still is comedy gold and I might add, arguably his best performance.

You also have Dead Poets Society he was brilliant in that movie and of course Good Will Hunting he was great in.

Insomnia IS excellent, but depressing as heck.
And if Eddie Izzard did the Oscars...OMG I would die laughing. I was introduced to him last week and all I can say is that he is fantabulous!

:: Kicks Lebron out :: There, room for a female again
Robin Williams did an interview on a current affairs show once in Australia. The presenter had all of these questions, but all she got out was "Welcome to Australia Mr Williams..." And he was off. 10 minutes of hysterics from the presenter later (And I think I did an injury laughing), they finally cut him off. She never got a word in (She was not physically capable cause she was laughing so much) and I still think it was the funniest unscripted adlib I have ever seen.
