I'm cool with it. I like the idea, myself, but let's have defined rules and judges too.

Ryla Relvinian
Jul 10th, 2002, 09:28:07 PM
I would totally do it... I'm even thinking of something right now.

But first, a few questions. Does this have to be something that has been previously RPed out here (or on swfans) or can it be a personal story? Also, what is the length / content limit? (i.e. nc-17? R? Not that you would but you could...)

I think it'd be a wonderful idea, as long as people remember that what happens IC shouldn't be taken personally OOC.

Jul 12th, 2002, 01:40:24 PM
>_< Nuu... it will go all elite-ish

ReaperFett
Jul 12th, 2002, 01:58:45 PM
Why will it? Are you one of those people who wants to stop school sports days because theyre too competetive? :)

Charley
Jul 12th, 2002, 02:29:04 PM
Owch.

Point, Fett.

TheHolo.Net
Jul 12th, 2002, 04:53:13 PM
RP writing contests on the forums can hardly be compared to school sports.

That is something that takes place in RL and involves easily seen physicality and emotion, while in our virtual world of text, expressing intent, emotions, and competitveness is a completely different animal and most are almost impossible with any real accuracy.

ReaperFett
Jul 12th, 2002, 04:59:55 PM
That wasnt what I was debating really though, its the elite-ish part.

TheHolo.Net
Jul 12th, 2002, 05:06:01 PM
But it does relate to it being elitish. Conveying emotional intent is almost impossible with accuracy through text. :p

Well I know last time it went fairly well. DIdn't it? Am I just being "golden child" about this because Pierce and I won last time?

ReaperFett
Jul 12th, 2002, 06:27:33 PM
Last time there were a number of very good RPs. I dont read that many RPs to be honest, but enjoyed every one I read. Why? Because people had a goal. They couldn't just faff around with average posts. They WORKED. I never finished my story due to time, but absolutely LOVED my intro. I had a goal, and worked for it. I dont see where it can go elite-y

Marcus Telcontar
Jul 12th, 2002, 08:49:22 PM
i really dont think it went elitist last time we did it - mainly cause it was simply free for all. And a lot of people participated from all skill and experience levels. There was a healthy amount of competition, but certainly didnt get bad.

It could work again, but for the lack of time most have

ReaperFett
Jul 12th, 2002, 08:53:10 PM
Give more warning this time. Have it announced, say August 1st, and entries have to be done by September 30th

Marcus Telcontar
Jul 12th, 2002, 08:57:21 PM
Dunno if that would be long enough. Last time it went two months over the closing time.

ReaperFett
Jul 12th, 2002, 09:13:30 PM

Salemn Lysce
Jul 16th, 2002, 11:56:35 PM
Bleh... :|

But if we are going to go through with it, then what will it be about ?

Marcus Telcontar
Jul 17th, 2002, 12:12:41 AM
Keep that open - the last one worked for one reason was that it was a unrestricted as possible

ReaperFett
Jul 17th, 2002, 03:12:32 AM
Not that many post here. THere was only about 6 in the last 2 days

Jen
Jul 17th, 2002, 04:07:49 AM
So the story can be about totally anything you want it to? o_O

ReaperFett
Jul 17th, 2002, 04:19:52 AM
I believe the original thread said "You want to write about DT having cosntapation? Go right ahead". One of the classics :)

ReaperFett
Jul 17th, 2002, 04:43:54 AM
One idea from my head. Probably not good, but Im ina rush so dont care :)

From what I remember, you were limited to one entry per RPer, right? Well, in the last year, more people have more characters, and many are pivotal in many RPs. So, what I suggest is, that someone can enter twice, providing theyre not on their own, it's a different character and that NOONE from the oother RP takes part. I think this is a decent idea because some characters are pivotal in another characters stories, so wouldnt be able to enter otherwise. Also, it makes it easier to enter, because if a RPer asked everyone they knew, and they had already entered, he'd be on his own

So, for example, Jenny and Tondry want to enter. Both of their characters inolves LDs characters. Prociding LD used different characters, and there was no other RPer repetitions, it could be done. Idea?

ALso, I wouldnt choose the judges straght away. Last time, Hart applied, and left RPing. There was so long a wait, it could happen anyway. I'd reccomend That you'd wait a month. THat way, the judges could read the stories coming along at an early stage still, but wouldnt be idle for 1/4 of a year or something.

Lilaena De'Ville
Jul 17th, 2002, 05:49:16 AM
I think the time limit is a good idea...although last time it *did* run over, but that was also our fault, because Tondry had time restrictions for being on the internet.

Basically, we had structure, but it can all be thrown out the window if need be.

And last time you could enter RPs you'd already completed.

My suggestion: find the old thread and just use the exact same rules.

ReaperFett
Jul 17th, 2002, 05:55:12 AM
I tried looking for the old thread, couldnt find

ReaperFett
Jul 17th, 2002, 06:03:43 AM
You just started looking, didn't you? :)

I found your threwad telling them to get on with it, and a judges one, but nowt more

Lilaena De'Ville
Jul 17th, 2002, 06:05:49 AM
Yes so did I. :( I can't remember what DT titled the initial thread. Something like everyone against him or something. I dunno.

Marcus, find that thread! :p

ReaperFett
Jul 17th, 2002, 06:07:18 AM
Hold on lads, I've got an idea :)

Need to think of an Ezboard name that posted in OOC in its last 5 or 6 posts

ReaperFett
Jul 17th, 2002, 06:11:29 AM
Ick, forget it, it was a seperate forum. Blooming linking strategies :)

So, for example, Jenny and Tondry want to enter. Both of their characters inolves LDs characters. Prociding LD used different characters, and there was no other RPer repetitions, it could be done. Idea?

Sounds like a good potential rule.

Marcus Telcontar
Jul 17th, 2002, 05:17:30 PM
Yeah, it was basically me tryiing get out of a creative slump and I basically laid out an all comers challenge. It was really cool... but awfully hard when I was working alone and everyone could gang up :)

Oooo. the Shopping thread! That was fuuuuuuun

And if there was an old RP to enter, I know exactly the one :)

Morgan Evanar
Jul 18th, 2002, 09:46:16 PM
I can think of two or maybe 3 actually.

ReaperFett
Jul 19th, 2002, 05:55:18 AM
I think you shouldnt be able to go and choose ANY RP though. SOme have been doing big RPs for 2 years, at least. Is it fair they just use one, while some newer members have to put an effort in?

Saarrreeaa Meorrrei
Jul 21st, 2002, 10:37:51 AM
Ah heck. Guess I'll just forget the whole thing. I'm good at ideas, crap at organizing them. :)

Wei Wu Wei
Jul 21st, 2002, 10:54:42 AM
This sounds cool, but I still don;t quite understand. I'd ask for an example, but that might be to hard to do.

count me in anyway.

Marcus Telcontar

But who is goign to organise it?

ReaperFett
Jul 21st, 2002, 05:55:43 PM
Person who started the thread! :)

Seriously, I dont feel there is THAT much organising to do, providing you are ready from the start.

Marcus Telcontar
Jul 21st, 2002, 06:03:08 PM
There is mate, there is. I organised two challenges so far and I can tell you, there is more work in them than what you realise

ReaperFett
Jul 21st, 2002, 07:29:07 PM
I realise there's work. But if you're ready for it, and remember we've as such had two initial runs, I feel this strike could be the one that gets the torpedo down the evhaust vent

Marcus Telcontar
Jul 21st, 2002, 07:30:42 PM
So are you offering to run it?

ReaperFett
Jul 21st, 2002, 07:34:18 PM
No :)

Marcus Telcontar
Jul 21st, 2002, 07:37:39 PM
