bah; I couldn't stand Trigun's animation; too choppy for me.

Now take Cowboy Bebop, Escaflowne, and Evangelion. THOSE are perfect specimans of what makes some anime truly worth watching.

And as far as anime movies, I lean toward Akira, Spriggan, Metropolis, Princess Mononoke, and Perfect Blue. There's more, but I can't quite remember them at the moment.

Most anime is crap because of horrible dialogue. It never sounds natural. Akira and metropolis are the only good ones i have ever seen. Oh and Escaflowne is the bomb. The art is amazing.

Ok, Escaflowne - the characters have really weird shaped noses. Far too pointy I think. Yes, Tenchi Muyo is crap. Akira is crap, Perfect Blue = good, Princess Mononoke = good but not as much as the hype. Spriggan = good.

Trigun has good animation sometimes, I think its just that the artiists change. Just like DBZ... BTW DBZ = crap x INI.

Evangenlion's dialouge feels very natural because the whole situation is a bit bizzare, and they caputre it very well.

damn, I still need to watch those; I haven't seen any Macross.


And when it comes to dialogue, the only anime I watch is subbed. I'll suffer through dubbed versions, but for me subbed is the only way to watch an anime. I've taken Japanese, and I want to go to UW and take some more courses, but from what I did learn, the Japanese language has its own complexity next to that of the English language; probably more so, IMO.

I mean, tone, inflection, context, all of these and very much likely more determine the meaning of a sentence, and you lose all of that in a translation.

Of course for me, Mononoke was something of an exception; the dubbing job was brilliantly done, I must say.

So my advice is to start watching subbed if you already don't. It's amazing the difference you'll hear.

Mononoke's good, and so is Escaflone and Evangolion (sp). Haven't really had a chance to watch much anime...But that WILL change this summer...:)

Escaflone is a horrid piece of crap. Me and my friend tried to sit through it at Otakon last year. That was only thing where we walked out cause we hated it(The other thing was Oh My Goddess! Which wasn't working.) Records of the lodoss war is great. The fighting at some points seems bad, but that final fight is great. Won't spoil it for those that haven't seen it.
