Okay not AS bad as I thought...but still not very good. We had been dropping in the low 30's the last couple of weeks....this goes back to our early days of heavy drops.

Well Friday has been its worse day it only made a little over 2 million yesterday, so I think it will rebound it should still make close to 6 million this weekend but it might not make it to the top 10 that would be the only indication from it. Realize it only needs less than 25 million, and I can't see it not doing that at this point. as far as the rest of the numbers Lilo and Stitch is a shock I thought it would do well but I never saw it make #1 and it will look like it will make at least 36 but it will probably make 40-45 since kids film always do better on Saturday. Also looks like we were right by Scooby Doo which droped almost 60 % from last friday that is terrible easily the worst drop in the top 5, it will probably make 20-25 IMO.

My screening of "Minority" was far fuller than Friday's numbers would indicate. Oh well... I wonder if it's gonna be another BO disappointment for Steven....

It should make almost 40 IMO, and I was thinking it might do that low, I just didn't think Stitch would do 40 so I am more shocked about that. Also it did more than AI so it should do close to 200 for the year which I wouldn't consider a disapointment. By the Way what was the exact drop for Scooby it had to be around 60 right?

Spidey was only 60K behind AOTC. It might end up passing it by next weekend. I'm really surprised by Lilo and MR. I think MR will end up doing allright, but I didn't think it would fail to grab the top spot this weekend. I guess will have to wait and see how Sat. and Sun. play out, but it looks like it's going to be close.

Oy, Spider-Man! Noooo! You're a very entertaining film, but that doesn't give you the right to jump ahead of AOTC in weekly box office, especially as you've been out two weeks longer! Stop it, now!

Minority Report, the first Steven Spielberg/Tom Cruise collaboration, failed to earn $12 million on Friday. Instead, Lilo and Stitch held that honor pulling in $12.3 million on Friday.

I should have seen this coming for Minority Report. You see, I was standing in front of an elaborate gumball machine, when all of a sudden out of one the unnecessarily long plastic tubes comes this red wooden ball. Printed on the ball in black letters were the words Minority Report. I thought it was a clever marketing ploy until another red wooden ball came out a different unnecessarily long plastic tube. That ball said 20th Century Fox Marketing Department. Really though, how else can you explain a Spielberg/Cruise sci-fi summer film not opening to at least $40 million? I really felt this movie would have had more modest opening day numbers. However I do not think this film carries enough appeal. A very well made movie with great performances but still falls short. Soon Spielberg will be making another movie or movies... while MR is cast into the sea of forgetfulness.

I think it's an anomaly. I was about to buy tickets online to go see Minority Report, but the two closest theaters has it all sold out for the rest of the night (7 screens, more than 10 showings). Lilo and stitch hasn't sold out any of its shows. I think Saturday's numbers will be different. Don't those movies do better on Friday's anyways?

Well actually Lilo and Stitch will do better on Saturday, family films do best on Saturday and sunday, I think it will do at least 40 but more likely could do 45 for the weekend. Also I think MR will do close to 40 maybe 38-41, I am really not surprised about it I thought it would do less than people were predicting though I still thought it would be #1. I am more surprised about Lilo and Stetch people were saying how it had a poor add campaign and there wasn't enough advertisement. But McDonalds has been doing it with their happy meals and I am sure there are a lot of kids who found about it that way, I think it could be a huge hit it could one of the top 5 grossing films of the summer, should have the declines that Scooby has been having. As far as Scooby really everybody knew this decline was coming it fell every day and by more than a million every day, it will make a 100 million though but might fall short of 150. Also I agree with Darth about AOTC. I am certain it will pass that Juawana man that film looks horrid, and it seems to do a lot better than YA YA sisters on Saturday and Sunday, so I say it finishes at least 7, could pass Windtalkers too, it will make another 4 million in the next two days giving it 280 million

Now where will it end up, I think somewhere between 305-318 I still think it has a small chance of crawling pass HP but we will see I hope it will pass ID4 at least and maybe even ROTJ making it the 3rd highest grossing SW movie that would be cool alone.

I hope so Carr, but it's gonna be losing screens really fast now. AOTC has been out more than a month now and every weekend 2-4 new films are hitting theatres. Something's gotta give.....

Well Windtalkes will lose a lot of screens next I think and then that POC basketball movie will lose a lot next. I think it will keep enough screens to make it to 300 the question is where will end up. I think it will end up at 300 by the middle to end of July, I think it can make 20 million in the next 3-5 weeks. I think before it leaves most theaters it will be around 305. Then it will be in dollar theaters until November there it could make anywhere from 5-10 million between August to Novemeber, my guess it will make around 309 or maybe barely 310 which is great IMO that would give 30 million from after this weekend I think that is doable. Hey if Spiderman can make it to 415 which is like 30 million from where it is at now than SW can make it to 310.

It's really hard to say though...I think AOTC will lose screens alot faster than "Juwanna Man"...at least this next week. I'm pretty sure theatres are required to show a film for at least 2 weeks before dumping it totally. "Windtalkers" may lose a bundle this coming weekend...but we're gonna have a bunch of new films opening.

The cycle never ends.

I can't believe that Lilo and Stitch is doing so well. At my theater, its one of the few movies that doesn't sell out. Minority Report, Bourne Identity, Sum of all Fears, Ya Ya Sisterhood, Windtalkers, Spiderman, and yes, even Star Wars, all sold out shows today.

That is very close Looks like we won't know who won this weekend until tomorrow and ouch for Scooby that is what a 55% drop which isn't really a surprise to me I kind of saw that coming, Well AOTC made about 4 million like I thought I am hoping the estamite is a little low so it can 280 I think it needs another hundred thousand to do it.

Minority Report wins? I'll believe it when I see the final numbers. If Friday's numbers showing Lilo in 1st were an 'anomaly', these estimates showing Minority regaining the lead over Saturday and Sunday are even more of an anomaly.

I hope they're right, though. It'll save my butt in the B.O. contest. ;)

Theaters are not obligated to keep most movies for ANY amount of time -- they can throw them out whenever they want. Yes, granted some major releases they have to keep for two weeks, but they'd do that anyway. Hollywood Ending, by no means a bomb because it was a small film, played at my local theater for only 7 days -- one week. It just wasn't there any longer...

I still remember when Coneheads opened, the movie was in theaters here for 3 days. I tried to see it Monday at Tigard and it was already gone after not even a week. I have NEVER seen that happen before or since, lol. Biggest bomb in history.
