Interesting. I personally like a mix, where the main characters are as important as the new characters

I have personally always thought that the writers can and will never catch the "life" of the charachters from the movie. It always comes off as an... eh. That is why I like the stories about Rogue Squadren and Corren Horn.

And I think Rogue Squadren will make an Awesome TV show, if they follow the books half-way

If only.

And RF, I am dissapointed that you seem to hate Zahn. You liked Truce at Bakura more than all of his SW books?! Or are you listing those from least liked to most liked? You shouldn't say "From the best", then. I figure it means you're listing from best to worst... eh, I could never make such a list successfully, though. I like too many of them. Maybe a "I liked a lot" and a "I didn't really like" list....

Liked:
Han Solo trilogy by Brian Daley
X-Wing: Starfighters of Adumar
NJO: Dark Journey
HST: The Hutt Gambit
NJO: Rebel Dream
HST: The Paradise Snare
HST: Rebel Dawn
X-Wing: Solo Command
NJO: Rebel Stand
X-Wing: Wraith Squadron
X-Wing: Iron Fist
X-Wing: The Bacta War
X-Wing: Rogue Squadron
Courtship of Princess Leia
NJO: Jedi Eclipse
JAT: Dark Apprentice
JAT: Jedi Search
JAT: Champions of the Force
Shadows of the Empire
NJO: Heroes Trial
NJO: Vector Prime
X-Wing: Wedge's Gamble
I, Jedi
NJO: Conquest
NJO: Star By Star
X-Wing: The Krytos Trap
NJO: Rebirth
TTT: Dark Force Rising
NJO: Balance Point
TTT: Heir to the Empire
TTT: The Last Command
NJO: Onslaught
X-Wing: Isard's Revenge
HOT: Spectre of the Past
NJO: Ruin
HOT: Vision of the Future
Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina
Tales of the Bounty Hunters

Did not like so much:
Planet of Twilight
BHW: The Mandalorian Armour
BHW: Slave Ship
BHW: Hard Merchandise
Truce at Bakura
Tales from Jabba's Palace
The Crystal Star
Darksaber (note: I used to love this book. I don't know what happened, but my feelings toward it changed... except that stuff between the designer of the DS and the Emperor was great)

Out of intrest, why is Jabba's Palace bad, but the othe tales books good?

Oh, and I don't hate Zahn. I enjoy his short stories. But his novels never worked for me. I wrote Janson well though. He joked, I smiled :)

I have to say that I, Jedi was the best, personally speaking. The worst is a tie between Planet of Twilight and Children of the Jedi (For some reason I can't ermember the title..it was the one were Callista was introduced).....I think they were written by the same person and they both suck. BAD!

Truce at Bakura also sucked, just not as bad as the ones mentioned above. I'm going to post a list when I get home!

I just didn't like Jabba's Palace nearly as much... not as interesting to me, I guess. I really only liked the EV-9D9, the Rancor keeper, and Oola's tales... the rest all kept repeating junk and I didn't like them so much. Meh. :)

Well, that first sentence was a blatant lie. Heck, you've not only LIKED more than you hated, but also LOVED more than you hated. Unless you're not talking about Star Wars novels in your first sentence. ;)

My list. I know it took me a while but I'm working on it. I'm in the process of reading the X-Wing books, but so far I like them very much. This list goes from best to worst.

1. I, Jedi
2. Shadows of the Empire
3. X-Wing Rogue Squadron
4. X-Wing Wedges Gamble
5. Last Command
6. Heir to the Empire
7. Dark Force Rising
8. Courtship of Princess Leia
9. Jedi Search
10. Dark Apprentice
11. Champions of the Force
12. Darksaber
13. Vision of the Future
14. Specter of the Past
15. Dark Tide I: Onslaught
16. Dark Tide II: Ruin
17. Rebel Dream
18. Rebel Stand
19. Dark Journey
20. Showdown at Centerpoint
21. Ambush at Corellia
22. Assault at Selonia
23. Star by Star
24. New Rebellion
25. Edge of Victory I: Conquest
26. Edge of Victory II: Rebirth
27. Agents of Chaos I: Hero's Trial
28. Agents of Chaos II: Jedi Eclipse
29. Vector Prime
30. Crystal Star
31. Before the Storm
32. Shield of Lies
33. Tyrant's Test
34. Balance Point
35. Truce at Bakura
36. Children of the Jedi
37. Planet of Twilight

The last 4 were the hardest to decide. I didn't know which one I hated more. I think the reason these same four books seem to be on everones bad list, has to do with the fact that they were the most confusing. The two writers (Kathy Tyers and Barbara Hambly) never clarify what they are writing. Also, the fact that the stories were boring didn't help.

Love anything Zahn or Stackpole. Compile each of their books and that's honestly all you need for the entire EU, IMHO.

Really liked Hero's Trial and the Han Solo Trilogy.

Liked Hambley. Her descriptions are so rich it's a fairly difficult read, though.

Liked some of the characters of the Jedi Academy Trilogy, but otherwise loathe anything KJA touches. That wretched Dark Empire trash that he forced into continuity was possibly the worst comic I ever had the misfortune of reading, too.

Couldn't finish the Bounty Hunter Wars or the Allston X-Wing book I tried to read.

And after 20 years I'm still fond of Han Solo at Star's End. All the Corporate Sector allusions in Hero's Trial (written by Brian Daley's best friend) was probably part of why I liked it so much.

Yes the X-wing series is that good. They need to make it into a TV show.....but make it animated. They could never make it work with live action. It would look too cheesey. I tore through the books in like a week. They had the most personality, while at the same time keeping the Epic feel that is Star Wars.

I got a question for you all.....which do you like better, Rogue Squadron or Wraith Squadron?

Personally I would have to say Wraith Sqaudron. I liked the characters more, and Allston is able to do humor so well. I laughed out loud whenever Janson talked.....yub, yub!!!!!!!!

My favorites are...

1. Episode II: Attack of the Clones
2. Vector Prime
3. DT Duology
4. Dark Journey
5. Traitor
6. Truce at Bakura
7. Jedi Academy Trilogy
8. I, Jedi
9. X-Wing: Wraiths
10. Edge of Victory Duology

Personally I thought that Darksaber was horrible...and I think that the NJO series rocks...

I would hjave to say I like the Thrawn tirilogy and duology, because I a megolomaniac, and the war was well written.

The X-wing series' because they inlcuded things from an Imperial perspective, and inluded capital shp combt, as well as fighter.

As usual, I am a lone sheep in a a wolfpack. I like Darksaber, because it introduces Pellaeon and the battles are well done as well. Very Imperial.

I'm a softie for all things Imp.

I agree on the Black Fleet stuff, though. I did like, however, th bits about the Balck Sword Comand, their abandoning of he Yevetha in the middle of the battle was masterful.

Didn't care for I Jedi. Never a bog opre fa...that's why Desaria always has Ysalmirir handy.

I'm not increadebly familiar with the Expanded Universed. I have only read two books ( the first Rogue Squadron and Shadows of the Empire). I loved both of them . I am currently reading "Heir to the Empire". It a cool book , but it is too military science fiction for me ; but I will read the trilogy none the less.
Im interested in ready SW novels that have more Fantasy elements in them. Any suggestions?
