Only GJO members are to be involved with this :)

Time not to work on sigs, but on board graphics! I'm looking for graphics to be used in a rotating graphics set for GJO forums. I'[m not aiming to replace current set, aiming to add to it

So, who's up for the challenge?

I might have a go, if that's alright?

Well, your part of GJO, so yes, go for it

Uhm.... I'm not really sure how this could work.

Well, basically it utilises the fact that you can name the graphic you want to use a script name. The present script I use is time based, so you can rotate the page styles every say hour.

So, for instance the present style is hour one - then it switches to hour two, say a metallic style. the actual forum php code stays the same, it's only the graphical work that would change. You dont need IFRAME or anything like that either.

Are we talking just the banner, or everything? Buttons, etc?

I don't have oodles of time, but this seems fun. So I'll make some banner like graphics. :)

I'd much rather be able to pick my style. Having it switch on me would just be too much of a mindfrell.

:: Thinks::

Well, that is of course doable, but I was aiming to do things that wouldnt need Shawn level access to the forum.

:: Needs to think about that::

What you are proposing would need admin help anyway.

Here's my first try at a banner.

Not quite what I have in mind for one style set, but it's an indication what my thinking this. It is rough and needs work, but imagine this banner with the proper buttons and styles to suit

Very, very nice MQ. Pretty much perfect in any sense of the word. However, it doesn't seem to fit to me. Hammered Metal just doesn't seem Jedi-esqe to me. However, I think you hit the bullseye with the effect and look of brushed metal, and that spark thing. Just doesn't seem to fit with a Jedi motif. :\ Or a space theme. Good graphic though, just needs a more sci-fi touch I think. But for the image itself, absolutely perfect. :)

I'm going to whip something up, if you don't mind. :) I'm going to follow your lead and put all the stuff in a banner/header, to top the page. Should be done soon. :)

Is that little symbol the symbol for the GJO? Can I get a link to the original image for it, so I can use it? Both in this project, and many sigs and etc. to come.

I don't like the spark/etching-burn at all. Never have. Just IMO. The rest of it is nice. One of the absolute hardest things to do is to achive graphics that feel properly "Jedi". Requires a sort of softness but must be orderly, and must flow.

Everything you've done so far is very harsh.

Damn. I'll have to find a use for it tho, IMO it's too good not to be used somewhere. The touched up version looks even better.

I concur. Maybe you could change the text, and use it for another board. Maybe even your own personal board?... Actually, I think it'd look spiffy for the Warrior Forum. Or, for the NRSF subforum thing. Home One, is it called? Maybe you could change the words, and use it there? That'd be sweet! :D

I did that spark thingy. Very cool and inventive. However, a suggestion. Maybe you should make it more solid? However, that would look silly, if it was too solid. Make a straight and completely solid black line under it. Then, lower the opacity or layer type of the burning line.... I'm not sure, but that might make it look even cooler. Because real metal, if burnt through, would be cut but still searing hot on the edges. Also, if would be hot inside the cut out part.

Stragely enough, thats whats in the more complete version. - it looks like a sabre cut now. It's also cleaned up.

It's like just too cool not to use somewhere...... have to think about that.

Okay, my attempt at a banner. Should I make buttons for the board, or just add the them to the banner. Add Reply, Topic, Poll, etc.? Anywho, I think it's good. Tell me what you think, everybody. :)

Not bad - but I cant read the text on the side clearly.

As soon as I view it in this thread, I thought the same thing.... So I changed it. Tell me what you think now.

<img src=http://syriuscline.clanpages.com/sagegjobanner2.gif>

BTW, all of the stuff in that banner is 100% original. I used Paint Shop and some plug-ins only, no pictures. So there's no chance of Bob and Sam somebody coming along with the same background in their sig or something.

I really like it. I agree that the text doesnt stand out that well. On either side I think. To be honest, I cant see the difference between the first one and the second! Got a lot of promise though.

Sage, maybe gold text? Size (in terms of pixel dimensions is about perfect. Also, maybe making the text plainer would be a good idea, its kind of hard to read?

I have an idea for this one. The graphic is framed and there is partitions for links and control items.

Reduced size version of the way I'm heading.

Ooo, good one. I really like that. Pat on the back in order I think.

Morgan Evanar

Mmm... try using a more elegant font, and add maybe some subtle stone or marble texture to the frame?

Also, try curving out the triangle for Search FAQ Calendar

<img src=http://syriuscline.clanpages.com/sagegjobanner3.gif>

There, the text should be readable.

Marcus, I like your graphic very much. However, I think maybe a more steel BG for the framing would work better. It looks kind of like liquified metal. Actually, put the BG for the one with the lightsabre cutting thingy for the BG for this newest one. That'd look good. :)

Thats much better sage. I really like your image. I think your planets look superb.
