Does anybody think that it was a good idea to release this movie on memorial Day? I think it was a bad move in the first place because a lot of people don't like watching movies that make you think in the summer that is just the truth people see those in the spring and fall. Second there is the problem of having Robin Williams playing a psycopath, and I have talked to a lot of people and nobody wants to see the movie for that reason alone. I, myself, can't picture him in that role either and I think that is why the film might bomb. Williams just played a role like that, (though this role is even worse) Death to Smoochy and that movie bombed badly and I think for the same reason.

I don't know..I personally think "Insomnia" looks quite good, and I'll definitely see it.

I will probably just wait for the DVD, I don't like seeing Williams as a serial killer man he needs to go back to playing comedic roles he just doesn't fit into the twisted evil parts.

Well based on what I know Williams is just a killer...not a serial killer. :) Besides, Christopher Nolan(director of "Memento") is behind the camera...I have to see it.

I thought I heard he was a serial killer? That could have been wrong, I don't know but I am not saying it will be a bad movie, but why did they have to cast Williams as the psycopath, heck it would have more believable with Pacino in that role.

From what I hear, Insomnia freakin' rocks. I cannot wait to see it.

I think I might catch it on Sunday...

I already saw the other two openers this week at sneak previews, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and Enough, but I missed About A Boy and I have to catch up my movie review site, so I have to go see that. I am going to AOTC probably again on Friday, and I know for sure on Saturday (the FIRST meeting of PORTLAND's Fan Force!!!), but I think Sunday is going to be my new movie viewing day, hehe.

"About a Boy" was surprisingly good. It was really funny IMHO...I think alot of guys can relate to different portions of Grant's personality. The other film based on that guy's book "High Fidelity" is a classic. :)

I hear it was very good! I am hopeful for both films, because it's nice, if I am going to take a break from Star Wars, to have actual good movies to watch instead of just feeling obligated to see trash ;)

I imagine both movies will be quite good, or at least solid three star films in my book. About A Boy did look good from the trailer, but the problem is, I started to hate the trailer after I saw it for the 20th time or so. I honestly saw it that many times in theaters and any trailer gets boring after a while, spare a few such as The Matrix (and its sequels), Star Wars (all the movies), and a few other action films.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've gotten totally burned out on trailers before. Recently I've had it up to here with "Enough"...musta seen it preview half a dozen times. The worst ever was like "The Saint" back several years ago('97 I think). I swear to God I saw the preview for that like 25 times. It was on EVERY single movie I saw in the theatre...absolutely ridiculous.

They need to be a bit more careful with that, because I really think they can burn a film out before it even plays in theaters. There have been many times that I saw the trailer about 3-5 times and thought, "Ok, this looks like it has potential, I'll see it," but after time #10, I really start to question whether I even want to sit through the actual movie. It's just overkill. I saw the AOTC trailers three total times I think. Ice Age, Monsters Inc., and E.T. were the only movies that an AOTC trailer played before that I saw. That was not at all overkill, given that they were also two separate trailers. But I got the idea, I saw the trailers, and if I were a normal guy (not already obsessed with Star Wars), I'd have thought, "Oh wow that looks sweet! I can't wait!" So that was effective marketing (but the TV spots, now that is another matter...).

Enough is SO MUCH better than its stupid trailers. I hate the trailers for that movie. Fire the marketing department because they just botched it majorly. If someone hasn't seen it, and I say, "I actually sorta liked that movie," they give me a funny look because "it looks pretty bad," as Captain Panaka of TPM would say, hehe. Honestly, though, the movie was not so bad. I gave it 2.5 stars, better than I thought it would be for sure.

Yeah you could tell from the trailer you would be falling asleep in that movie:p. I watched it and I forgot the whole thing an hour later that is how forgettable that movie was. Enough looks bad too another one of those Sleeping with the Enemy/Double Jeopardy ripoffs but with worst actors in it. I am still not sold on Insomina, I like Pacino and I normaly like Williams but I can't stand to see him as a villain it just doesn't work for me. And I have a feeling it will it effect its box office. I kind of hope so Williams needs to go back and doing comedic roles and good ones not these crummy comedies he has been doing either. He is one of the funniest comedians in the world and he has been in a really good movie in a while.

Due to a strange set of circumstances, I actually saw 'Insomina' tonight, before catching a late show of AOTC.

The performances by the 3 leads were spot on, but the I felt the movie was unwound by a mediocre script. As for Nolan, his directorial style is a little too rapid-fire for a movie that contains so many moments of heavy drama like this. I give it 2.5 stars out of 4. The Alaskan scenery, on the other hand gets 4 stars. ;)

and had a good time watching the Following.

I believe this show might do Alaska, and Alaskan's some justice--considering the last big movie filmed in Alaska was On Deadly Grounds***shudders***:x

I rather liked it. It's certainly not as good as Nolan's indy masterpiece, but it's a cut above most of the other mediocre movies we've been flooded with (like, say, The Scorpion King :x). I thought the story was interesting - it really presented an interesting view on the whole "Does the ends justify the means?" rhetoric, and gave us a movie with no black-and-white, good-guy/bad-guy scenarios.

3/4 stars from me.

Oh, an interesting thing I noticed while watching the movie: At one point, police officers are communicating via walkie-talkies, and you heard the line "Obi 1? This is Obi 2, do you copy?" :lol

Miss it. Please, miss that dang movie. It is not what the hype says. I was expecting a real psychological thrill like the ads said, and didn't get that at all.

The following is not a spoiler, but I am masking it anyway.

No, I got a dectective story, and a bad one at that. Williams did a poor job, I thought, and Pacino is just plain too old for that part. It wasn't NEARLY as good as Momento, nor should it have gotten the reviews it did. It dragged on, was incredibly predictable, and had no real plot twists. I'm sorry, It was really, really bad.

Once again...I will see it and make up my wn mind. Forgive me Sejah Haversh, but I really don't know your taste in film(you rarely post in this forum) so I read your opinions with a grain of salt.

As a critic, haha, I gotta agree with the other critics: it was very good! I don't know how anyone could say otherwise unless maybe they didn't understand it.

Actually it reminded me of Changing Lanes because it's a real morality play, makes you think about just what is right and what is wrong, in the context of being a cop and whatnot, and the difficult decisions they have to make. Aside from that, though, the acting was fantastic and the movie is quite stylish but not in a "hey look at me!" sort of way. I have my full review written, but I'll post it later... when I get caught up here.

Oh wow...this was a fantastic film. The three leads were terrific(I don't think Pacino has ever been better). It was well written, well shot....just plain well made. One of the best films of the year...no doubt.

I agree CMJ, at least it was very strong. I don't think it will come close to being the best of the year, though, it will finish outside of my top 15. Maybe #20 to #25, but I gave it 3.5 stars.

Unfaithful?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Are you KIDDING ME?! That movie SUCKED hardcore! One of the absolute WORST films of the year. It was painfully awful. Awful plot, painfully boring, nothing unique at all, super predictable, and a PORNO flick. All it does is give audiences about 30 minutes of Diane Lane naked. It's a sickeningly awful, boring film that never should have been made. What a piece of absolute trash. I can't believe I had to sit through it. If you couldn't predict everything in that movie way before it happens, you got problems, lol.

If "Insomnia" doesn't make my top 10 films of the year...it will be a very good year indeed(I think I liked it more than you did Jonathan...glad to see you did really enjoy it though). Christopher Nolan is a GREAT young director.

We obviously look for different things in movies. Not to pull age on you, but when you've lived and learned a little more, you may appreciate the complexities of Unfaithful. I thought it was very well done. :evil

I liked Insomnia. And I heard the Obi 1 to Obi 2 line...:D

The only disturbing thing is I have the same last name as the girl who was killed in the movie...

Williams as bad guy...its not what we expect. And I think its clear in the movie that even people who APPEAR nice have very dark sides. I think casting a comedian as a killer was a good choice. And Williams is a great actor, IMHO.

And by the end of the movie, I was exhausted from Pacino's portrayal. I just wanted the poor guy to get some sleep!
