This is the FIRST time I've ever tried putting an animation into a signature. It's for Mercery Oracle's signature. Tell me if it looks okay. Be harsh.

Kewl Sage, as always!! :cool

A suggestion: Maybe if the letters were in neon green or something ;)

Umm...I hate to ask, but IF you can (knows she always asks you favors) could you please maybe....when you have time make me a new logo for my board. I LOVE the one you made me!! But..I am renovating my board and making it Leia's & Obi's ;).

Do you think you could make me a new one..with Leia and Obi (from AOTC) on it?! Please!! WHEN and IF you can. Please let me know.

This was my old one you made:

Pretty spiffy, dude. You gots some real talent :)

What program did you use? After Effects?

Well, yes it would be smaller in flash. Actually, that's what it is, kind of.

I downloaded "Swish", a flash program. I made an animation, exported it to an "Avi" file, then changed it to a Gif in Animation shop. I don't think flash can be used in sigs, so I opted not to. Unless someone has the knowledge to prove me wrong. Which, might I say, I'd be very glad to be. If I could just use Flash, then I could make a much snazzier animation. Although I'm not sure it's possible to embed a flash file into a signature. Since the mechanics for putting it on a site require having it hosting at a local server. (FYI, I intend to make a grand flash animation for an upcoming Sage Hazzard bio page. :D)

The reason it isn't snazzier, is because of the file size it already has. Since it's a Gif. 30 K, as is. Which is the maximum requested by the admins here at SWForums.net. :)

Complicated, I know. :D

Okay, Leia, I suppose I can get to work on that. Same text? Any demension prefered?

Although I'm not sure it's possible to embed a flash file into a signatureAlthough I haven't tried it, you should be able to embed it in your signature. If not, you could always display it in an iFrame.

While this may get a bit tricky, the filesize limit imposed on SWFans.net does not necessarily apply to the GJO section, or any other roleplaying group.

However: Your sig here is the same as the one for the rest of the board. So, if you intend to have a sig larger than 30k, be absolutely certain that you do not use it at the other parts of the board. Otherwise, it will be edited out.

the filesize limit imposed on SWFans.net does not necessarily apply to the GJO section.

Oh yus it does. We implimented a size policy about a month and a half before the move.

What you could do, is have the signature be Flash, in an IFrame, with a static bitmap componet. Provided you compress the bitmap properly, it will hold the same size characteristics in Flash.

An IFrame.... there's an idea. Although, I've never worked with an IFrame, so it would be quite troublesome. I probably going to just keep it as is. It's a big file size, but that's all that'll be in the signature. So it fits the size requirement. I'm happy with it. :)

However.... what if I put in a preloaded for the flash, in an IFrame? Would that circumvent the size requirement? Since it loads the info into the browser before starting the animation, it shouldn't interfer with loading times. The page should load normally and the animation just wouldn't start unless enough time was given for it to load. How would this factor into the size requirements?... Keep in mind I'm a newbie at Flash, so I might be wrong.

Leia - Just tell me the demensions you want, the text, and the style and colors. The style and colors are important, since they should match your board's new look(if your changing the appearence). Oh, and can I just upload it here, than you save it to your server, to use on the EZBoard?

Urg, re-read what I wrote. You stick the "regular" sig in the flash, you have the cool animated text flitting around. In other words, you have a lot more to play with (in terms of size and flexibility.

Ah, I think I know what you mean. That's a good idea!

Although, if this works right.... it won't matter. I'm trying to embed a flash animation into the post.

<center><embed src="http://syriuscline.clanpages.com/sublightadsig.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="500" height="30"></embed></center>

Tell me if it shows up. I hope it does. It's only 5K! :) Oh, and tell me if it's clickable. I want people to be able to click on it and it take them to the board(Sublight).

Nevermind. It isn't clickable. I'll just include a text link under it. :)

Oh yus it doesI said "not necessarily". As in, it's up to you guys what the limit is. Glad to hear your keeping the same limits, though - it should make things less confusing, and create a uniform standard.

Sage: Well...I'd love to leave it up to your artistic know how and creativity. So..I will leave the pics and fonts up to you.

I guess the color scheme is in question. I don't think PINK would be appropriate with Obi.. LOL. So, I am torn between RED (like the idea because it symbolizes "love" but...it does also symbolize the sith LOL. So ...I dunno. Then I thought "blue" being fairly neutral and all. Either one would be fine...or if you come up with something else. I greatly appreciate it.

I always have admired your work and I know you will do a GREAT job on it!!

Take your time no rush!! And Thanks again!!!:D

Okay, but what's the text? Leia Solo's Home was the last banner. What now, Obi and Leia's home?

Oh, and someone please tell me if the SECOND animation shows up. It's important because it might just be showing up for me because it's in my cache.

Shawn

It shows up and looks just dandy. I'm pretty sure you can make it clickable, as well.

Sage Hazzard
May 22nd, 2002, 12:19:57 AM
I don't see how.... Since it's flash. The <*A Href=> tag doesn't work with it, I tried it, then edited it out. Although I could make the text clickable through the flash program, but that means a stationary text would be needed. When the text is moving, it can't be clicked on. I could put a stagnant text link in the bottom corner, but a normal text link outside of the flash would serve the same perpose. :) Unless of course, you were thinking of some other means.

Shawn
May 22nd, 2002, 12:30:22 AM
No, I was referring to have a stationary link through flash. :)

Sage Hazzard
May 22nd, 2002, 01:29:59 AM
Yeah, that'd be neat, but it just makes the flash file bigger. Where a text link has few characters, making it less in size. :)

Oh, tell me what you think of this guys! I know it looks kind of dorky, and the animated text looks off center and odd. However, it's for the Sublight board. Although I am one of the Oracles, my brother was the one to come up with the idea of a Night Club name Sublight. And he pretty much runs it. So, since he likes it, I don't want to change it to match my taste, and disrupt his vision. Here's the board, animation is the banner. Wait for it to load. I didn't feel like including a preloader, so just watch the blank space until it pops up. :)

Tell me what you think. I like what I did with the "popping" letters, that change color as they appear.

That animation looks awesome, Sage!

Since we are talking about flash, I would like to show off my CC.net sig, if you dont mind :)

Very, very nice Yogster. I like your use of varied effects. :) How'd you make it? Swish or actual code?

I'm in the process of remodeling the RSC, now run by another character of mine. Now that Syrius is taking a leave of absence to train as a Jedi. Tell me what you think of the flash banner:

Oh, and I'll try and make that banner soon.
