Who is your cable modem company?

2 things to keep your cable modem bill down:

1. Buy your own modem. I recommend the Motorola SB4100. About $109 at www.pricewatch.com. This way you don't have to rent the modem from the cable company...those $5-$12/month charges add up annually

2. Buy your own router. If you lease an IP address from your cable company for an additional computer connected to the 'net, it'll cost you $5 per computer, per month, and all you need is a $20 hub. As an alternative, you can get a D-Link 4-port hub ($57 after their $20 mail in rebate at pricewatch), forego the monthly charges indefinitely, and connect up to 4 computers to the cable modem.

You'll find a link to Pricewatch at the top of the TGE page.

Have it, have it, and got it... Don't worry, I knew what to buy before hand.

I purchased my cable modem straight from Optimum Online (my provider), they don't rent modems.

I then purchased a Linksys router and a couple cards and did all of the networking.

Today I adjusted the network config. and everything runs perfectly.

Thanks for the advice, though.

Good, then you can help me configure my router :) . It arrives in a few days, I think.
