View Full Version : Concerning ranking

Because of the lack of promoting between knight/master, I beileve we should add another ranking between the two. It seems to me that we have a lot of knights, and it could be easier to split the older more experianced knights, such as Garrett and LD, apart from the just-turned-apprentices. This way there could be a higher possible ranking without the responsibilities of a Master, and the knights would feel they have accomplished something. This is just a thought I came up with, and I would like to see others opinions on the matter.

Isn't DeVille facing her Master trials? And this doesn't sound that bad of an idea..

That could lead to confusion with non-members <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

We could always include the rank of Lord, as is being instated at TSE, but I think that adding another rank isn't totally necessary. I prefer the system we have now.

I'm not facing my master trials yet. Soon, I hope. ;)
And I think that (no matter what everyone else says) it would be very helpful if TSE and TSO used the same system of ranks. Its too confusing with Warriors and Disciples and Apprentices and Knights, Lords, and Masters.
Someone (maybe me, I don't know, but I'll volunteer) should go to TSE with the purpose of agreeing on a standardized ranking system. We should figure out what we think would be an appropriate change:
Like, TSE removing the Warrior Disciple ranks and replacing them with Apprentice (or one, equivelant rank) and TSO adding the Lord rank.
Leads to less confusion with all the dual members.

Hands out detention slips
Alright, so it seems that most people agree that another rank couldn't hurt. Also, it was brought up by a few people that it could be the same as TSEs' rank of Lord, thus making it easier for dual members to find where they fall.

TSO and TSE should have the same ranks, the need to have two masters if you are in either group is sorta idiotic too, its not always done but saw that on occassion which makes no sense, two ranks, two masters is just too much and unnecessary.
Acutally having another rank here would give someone something to shot for/work for. Thats the good thing about ranks. Yet if someone becomes a master too fast then what is there to accomplish?
Usally very little to do, getting higher up in rank is what many drive for...although its really the wrong goal to shoot for in the long time scheme of things.
Could see what the others think about this at TSE....although the elimination of two ranks might be tough to ask for. One maybe....but two? Eh....the number of ranks there are is so people who deserve the high ranks get them in time when they (suppose to) prove their worth for such things. Having several lower ranks is so people who shouldnt be lords are not lords.
Dont worry LD....you'll get your masters trial when I decide something painful enough for you to <strike>survive</strike> go through....had Havok fight Ogre, LL and some other guy all at the same time, got Nuri running around TSE with a virus in her that will kill her unless she finds me....so for your Master trial necessary to say it shall be very much fun:)

Im totaly 100 percent against this! Yeah I know we have discrepency in ranks with tse but it hasnt caused major problems in that we dont encourage dual memberships in the first place!
Let me explain why Im so adamant against this idea. For one thing part of the reason TSE had started adding more ranks becuase members were clamoring for promotions but were not ready to advance to the next level. So to keep them happy the added ranks so that people could be promoted to something.
I hate that!! I hate that with a passion! If you're not ready to be promoted then so be it! I dont endorse creating ranks to accomidate those who dont meet the standards of the higher ranks. I believe you train your people to meet the higher standards not lower the standards to meet your people.
And its true there will be variations in the ranks. LW is not as powerful as say Anbira and a newly appointed Knight wont be as powerful as someone like DeVille. The variation exists. Remember the rank is a means to categorize.
So what if you have a knight rank! What matters is what you do with it! We all know who has the greater abilities and quite frankly I've found its the ones who dont ask to be promoted and who dont clamor about why cant we have more ranks so it seems like I am more important that are the better fighters, the most active, and who are a credit to their rank.
So thats my little speech on why Im so opposed. TSO has always held the same ranks as TSC operated on and Ive never seen a need to have any other ranks then Apprentice, Knight, and Master for those who have shown extraodinary ability. In fact if anything we've been to quick to promote people in the past. But thats another issue for another day.

LW brought up some excellent points. TSO is their own group with their own rules. Our ranks are quite fine right now..

In fact if anything we've been to quick to promote people in the past.
Which group isnt guilty of that?
In fact at TSE ranks are not being given out as quickly as they were, even when it came down to it, there were several in the last month that wanted to be a Lord rank saying "Going out to prove ready to be a Lord" etc etc.
But they were denied and caused a hissy fit, in the end they left because they werent being promoted as they thought they should be. If offered the ranks got no doubt they would have returned but since we didnt they got really pissy about it.
Yes thats to prove TSE sticks by what it does and indeed to show not everyone gets meaningly promoted since just about everyone who is a Master deservered it and earned it. Same goes for most Lords.
The lower ranks were put in while I was not in TSE so cant say why they were exactly included other than to give the people something to do and work for. As stated before except for a small percentage of Rpers many get bored in due time, extra ranks helped to make sure there was always something else that could be gained in due time when they proved themselves capable or of worth. Always another goal or challenge to meet.
Thats my own view on it, not TSE's. Those who truly deserve the ranks get Lord and Master in due time, those who dont like those that complained I mentioned can simply leave, they did nothing to gain the ranks so they didnt get them. If someone asks to be made a certain rank they never get the position, whats the point to give someone a rank they ask for? Many try to get up in rank for the wrong reasons, mostly for popularity or some sense of power.
BTW TSE doesnt encourage duel ranks either.

well tse has gotten better I know. Just like tso has gotten better. However I know thats why they added ranks in the past. I heared it from those instrumental in adding the ranks. But tse has learned. But still Im not endorsing any new ranks to tso.

those deserving of a higher rank will be given it... but only after they've worked and proven themselves worthy of it... until that time, no one moves...
and we will remain with the ranks we have of Master, Knight, and Apprentice... it has worked all this time, so there is no need to change it...
if it isn't broken, don't fix it... and new doesn't always mean better...
leave it be...

I didn't mean get rid of TWO ranks, I meant have TSE consolidate the two lowest ranks, to be equivelant to our Apprentice rank. So we both have four, and call them whatever the heck we want.
I disagree. It IS broken, and we should fix it. For all reasons I stated above. And If I didn't state them, I'll go up, see what I did write, and then clarify in another post.
EDIT: or just edit. By the way, it seems five members of TSO think that TSO/TSE ranks should be simliar (not necessarily same name, but same NUMBER of ranks, so we know who fits where) and two do not think we should change.

now if you want to figure out how tse ranks coincide with ours thats fine. I'd like to see a listing of TSE's ranks and try to propose how they relate to ours.
DeVille dont start adding up like we're voting on something. THis is just a discussion.
Geez everyones so quick to start counting points lately.
Im sorry if Im short in my posts lately but TSO is giving me a headache. Its getting to the point where I dont want to log on line cause I have to see what new messes have evolved and you know what Im not the only member who feels this way! This is supposed to be fun so can we stop the petty bull-DO-NOT-SWEAR--DO-NOT-SWEAR--DO-NOT-SWEAR--DO-NOT-SWEAR-! Its getting ridiculous! And before someone jumps on me and says whats wrong with this thread read my comment clearly! Its an in general remark not pointing to a specific thread cause I know someone was reading this and was about to jump down my throat!

OOC: not that my others weren't OOC, I just wanted to make sure you knew.
Live Wire, I'm sorry that TSO is giving you head aches. But I still believe that the ranking systems of TSO and TSE should be the same.

I wasn't complaining about anything if you beileved me to be, I was merely pointed out what I had been thinking about for awhile. I know many people only care about rank, and getting higher up, but many others do not. I beileve that high knights and low knights should be classed a bit better.
OOC: Gotta go for a little, I'll add to this later. :)
EDIT: Ah, lost my train of thought... oh well. :/
