These are the sig pic I have done. If you want me to do one for you, you need to be...

a) Here for a while

b) Supply a good pic

Please remember I pick and choose what I want to do. If you want a sig done, pick a general style, display what pic you want me to use and preferred text and we'll see from there....

I also am the person behind the ActiveSig, a process that can make your sig become randomised or change. However, only really long term roleplayers will be assisted in getting one of those

Interesting.

Do you have a standard that you follow, or do you just pic the size of the signature image on a whim? Also, what programs do you use in the creation of the images? Photoshop I assume, but anything else? Are there any particular places you search for the source images? Or do you just punch something into google's image search and pray/hope the force will guide you to the right pic? :)

Well, first I start with all the pictures I like for a sig, open them all up in Photoshop. Then, I open up a blank document about 380x130ish. I prefer my sigs about medium to small size of the scale. Some have bigger, some have smaller, it's really a matter of personal taste. I just place the images in the blank doc, adding or removing if it seems too cluttered.

In regards to source images, I look for stock photos online (there are sites out there, like deviantART.com) for good backgrounds, star fields, planets, etc. People are usually reserved for certain characters, for example, Marcus uses Aragorn, and Leia uses Princess Leia, and I use Bounty Girl.

It's really a lot of fine tuning and guess work, really. Just poking around untill you find something that you like. :]

a) I have no set image size - tho I work on about a 500 * 220 maximum. 440 * 200 is the minimum. To also gain max quality, I begin with a new image set with 200 ppi. I aslo start with a much larger image, so I can better do the detail work. The more ppi, the better text shrinks as well.

b) Photoshop 6, Illustrator 8, Dreamweaver / Fireworks

c) I prefer grabbing images off DVD's. The starting quality is pretty good then when shrunk to the right size. if I dont find anything I want on a DVD, then Google Image search always works. I ALWAYS however will use the best quality image to begin with - the better the start image, the better the quality of the sig.

d) I also have no real set style. I experiment a lot. I like to try a random option and see what happens. I also may use other art as inspiration, but i do not blatantly rip off either.

Ah, good, good. Just comparing notes is all.

As for deviant, yeah, I know of it. Finally started posting my own work up on there.

Nice. My personal preference would be the second one. Similar to the one that I am creating anyway.

I'm sorry, this is slightly off subject, but...

How much do those programs normally go for Mark? (Programs I'm referring to: Photoshop, and the others)

Photoshop retails for around $600 in the USA, but if you go to a college, check out your college nbookstore, you might be able to get it half price. Illustrator is lower in price, but still up there. I got Flash and Fireworks for free myself, so I really don't know how much they run.

Another program that can SUPPOSEDLY do stuff liek Photoshop is CorelDraw 9 or 10 or whatever version is out. It's a lot cheaper, but I thought it really bites, myself. Go for Photoshop, there's a lot you cna do with it.

And I love those sigs, MArcus, I'd do more of my own, but, I just have this problem of finding images of anthropomorphic mongooses in good poses. So, I have to draw and color all my own. I still love the oens you do, though. I plan on staying long-term with Sejah and Tevit, so, if I did come up with a few more sigs, you think you might be able to get me hooked up with a rotating sig? No biggie, it would just be cool is all.

Marcus QDunn
May 7th, 2002, 05:46:34 AM
You stick around, I'll most certainly get a rotating sig going for you.

Corel? EEEWWW!!!! Less complexx than Photoshop, but it's really worth the trouble to get to know PS, big time. Mine is work supplied, which is a relief. About a week ago, I supplied some ideas for our website - and now I've got the gig to do the image design from scratch. I am really beginning to like doing graphical stuff, especially as for so long I thought I had no ability.

Now, if you draw your own characters, that is a real eye opener. They're damn good.

Satine, I just remembered that you can sometimes download the Limited Version of Adobe programs, and I believe that Photoshop 6.0 is on there. There is also anohther program called Photoshop Elements that contains portions of Photoshop, but other than that I knwo little about it. I will take a look and see what I can find at work today, we have a software section there.

And occasionally folks will put up older versions of Photoshop for sale on ebay, so you might consider lookign there. Version 7.0 is out now, so you might even be able to find version 6.0, which is what most of us still use. But be careful to make sure it is not a pirated version if you do find it there, there are a lot of copied and stolen versions out there.

And thanks, Marcus, I'll make sure to stick around, then.

Just adding two more for a highly bizarre idea he had. Well, maybe not bizarre, maybe very funny. He was idling away working out how to create a lightsabre effect and well... Darth Lightyear appeared.

I use Paint Shop for all my graphics. $100 bucks stateside. I got it for Chirstmas. Well, I payed $30, and my brother payed $70. It was his gift, but with a little help from me. :) So we share it. :)

It's a very good program. I haven't found anything I can't do with Paintshop that I could do with Photoshop.

Speaking of lightsabre effects, I'm working on a sig right now with Sage holding a lightsabre. I've never done one where I doctored a sabre in the character's hand. Pretty neat effect. :)

If you're a college student, you can pick up Photoshop to the tune of less than $200, or maybe even $120 if you shop some.

What do you mean "If you're a college student"?

Sejah Haversh
May 20th, 2002, 12:41:29 PM
They make academic versions of many programs, and that's how I first got my hands ont eh program. And Sage, trust me, there is a lot more you can do on Photoshop than Paint Shop, it's just getting down into the nitty gritties of it.

The Academic versions are a whole lot cheaper beacause A: They want the schools to use the program so people learn it and so the industry gets filled with people who want to use it, and B: They know most college students live off instant ramen and snack foods, and can't afford jack, so they lower the price in the hopes you don't pirate it.

My decent flash sig, which I never finished after EZboard screwed us out of IFrames. I've never really picked myself up after that(in regards to flash)... but I might do another flash sig now that I almost never touch Ezboard. (Thank god)
