Okay I just saw LOTR again tonight and I'm sorry to all the Legolas lovers but the Ranger is the best! I'm sorry, but there's no competition. Aragorn kicks some major orc ass! And he sounds better than Legolas when he speaks elvish! I love him!!

I heard the RL dude is one mad mamma jamma. He does most of his own stunts. Once, he was in a swordfight in FOTR, and he got a tooth knocked out. He told them to just glue it back in so he could finish the scene.... damn.

Viggo Morgensten is an amazing person. He writes poetry, he's an artist, he writes songs too. He has his own art exhibitions! His photography is close to world class too. He done a very varied amount of roles acting wise and if you saw him in some of those, you would hardly believe he plays Aragorn!

Like the... errr.... role in the buff he had. The man is hung like a rogue bull.

Being a speaker of Elvish (Quenya) I would agree that he is does have a better prosdy. Arwen sounds like a sick yack.

A helta ar caita caimanna!

She does not!!! I could sit and listen to Arwen speaking Quenya all day!

Bleagh. Her pronunciation is all wrong!

(/me is a linguistic snob, btw.)

and, in case you were wondering, the phrase I just said is translated to mean, "Take off your clothes and lie down on the bed!" Useful phrases, ya know. :]

'k... now that we've had the gushing over Aragorn...

I can't really pick a favorite character, and I can't really base my picks on the sole film thusfar, because as a Tolkien fan I've read the entire series (as well as other works). There are many qualities found in each of the characters that I find intriguing and enjoyable...

Suffice to say, that among the general film audience, while characters like Aragorn and Legolas will remain popular for their physical apperance and general ability to kick some serious -DO-NOT-SWEAR--DO-NOT-SWEAR--DO-NOT-SWEAR--DO-NOT-SWEAR- in battle... as the story continues, people will find themselves much more emotionally attached other characters... particularly Samwise.

I don't think Arwen necessarily sounded like a "sick yack." It wasn't perfect, but it wasn't horrible either. I think the big problem was that she was trying to fein an accent to match the rest of the Elf actors in the film, and the result was she used too many long vowel sounds... kinda threw off a few words. Ultimately, that's nitpicking kind of stuff, and there are a lot of other things in the film that could be nitpicked well before that particular point about Arwen.

Oh hush about Arwen's accent - I thought it was aural version of sex. I LOVED listening to her speak Elvish.

Actually, she wasnt all that bad to look at either.

:-p

As a Tolkien nut (Come on you lot... beat my now 22nd reading of LOTR), all I can say I really dont care about minor flaws. I'm just grateful such an excellent and superb film was done. And that TTT somehow could be better!

BTW, I have the new preview as a .avi. Who wantsssss myyyy preccioussss?

Dirrttyy thieving hobbitsss, they stole ouurrr preciousss and we wantsss it!!

I agree that Arwens accent was delicious

But I definetly think that Aragorn was my favourite character too.

I am a huuuuuuuge fan of Gandalf. But I also really like Aragorn and Arwen. In fact, I really like all the cast of LOTR. :)

Gandalf is cool but he doesn't have the attractive mysterious manner about him that Aragorn does. And I'm sorry, but I think Aragorns fighting style is way cooler.

Man, Yog, do you have a thing for old people or what?

Haha, not really, let me explain. What I admire about Yoda and Gandalf, is not their age or appearance, but more their wisdom, experience and character strength. You know, there is a lot of truth to Yoda's words about not judging by the looks, because real strength comes from the inside. In real life, I try to never be prejudiced about people, because sometimes I can spend a lot of time with a person only to find out I did not really know him/her that well after all. A person could be full of surprises. I do have the deepest respect for old people. I think we should listen to them more often because of their life experience, wisdom and knowledge.

Sure, it looks cool with skilled swordsmen going into battle with swords and lightsabers and all that, but these Masters, are even cooler. Weapons are not really needed to accomplish their goals, they are beyond that level. Furthermore, they would not reach for such means unless it was really necessary. The real battle is more often than not fought on a deeper level. IMO, those two are the most powerful characters.

Definately Gandalf, I just wish the film would've shown his more sacrastic, impatient side - it would've added to the humor of it all. I think the film made Gandalf a much more loveable character in the film than in the books - which is fine - but there is an inner strength in such characters. Tolkien described Gandalf at the bridge of Kazhad Dum as "like a wisened, old tree facing the onset of a storm." Which I thought was nice.

Personally, I like Faramir (sp?). He is cool. And Elrond is pretty cool too. I havent finished the Return of the King yet, but so far Faramir is my favorite.

If you really want to know more about Gandalf, try looking in to some of Tolkien's other writings... it becomes pretty clear that Gandalf is much more than he let's be known in the LOTR series, and that we only see a fraction of his real power.

... not to mention that he carries something of great significance. (all you Tolkien fans know what I mean).

In a lot of ways, this is quite similar to Yoda. We might get to see him do a bit more in the prequels, but what we see him do in the original trilogy is but a minor demonstration of his power.

Once again Yog, you show us your wisdom...

Oh man... decisions decisions decisions...

I think for me, I have a hard time choosing between Legolas, Aragorn, and Gandalf (and they're all for different reasons).

Legolas: Well, just cause I find him incredibly attractive. But not just that. i envy his grace and poise, and his wisdom as an Elf.

Aragorn: He's got this dignity about him that just makes me respect him so. His rugged appearance kinda contrasts with this, making him very intriguing.

Gandalf: Basically what Yog said. The whole thing of not neccessarily being physically strong or physically beautiful, but with what lies inside one's self. The wisdom. The mind and heart.

And there you have it.
