Dear fellow posters of the GJO <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/image/emoticons_classic/smile.gif ALT=":)">

For the last couple of weeks, me Nup and Ogre have been discussing the possiblity of and testing the technical feasability of setting up GJO at swforums.net. The testing has proceeded remarkable well, and it is now up to the posters up to this board if this is something we want to do.

If such a move would take place, we could have all our posts moved, recreating an excact duplicate of the forums here. We would have full control over the layout and forum policies, ensuring we provide the service to our members as we always had. All moderators would keep their powers + admitted some extra features that only administrators used to have. There would be no more worries about CSC payments or pop up windows. Last but not least, we would have all the advanced features that SWFans have, + some more specifically hacked for us.

That was the quick summary. Please, dont hesitate to ask if you have any question about the specifics.

So, now I ask the posters; vBulletin or not? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/image/emoticons_classic/smile.gif ALT=":)">

It's a wonderful idea and I'll be all for it except:

a. Will this not seem a little unfair on other groups within the community who have to tolerate EZBoard?

b. Ever since that April fools Ogre played on everyone, I'm just wondering, would this not mean that such a problem of excessive use of memory could become a reality?

A) I am paying to compensate for the extra traffic and as far as I know, other groups would be allowed to join as well. You would have to ask Nup or Ogre for details.

B) It was a question of monthly bandwidth alocation. Currently, swforums.net got a 20 GB limit. They used to spend 15 GB per month, but with gzip compression they reduced that significantly, so that wont be a problem anymore.

A.) Anyone who wishes to pay for a fraction of the hosting costs will be allowed to "move in" with us. Already, several other boards are in the process of following suit.

B.) As I explained when he did that joke, it would never become a reality. Even if we *did* exceed our monthly limit, it wouldn't mean that we'd have to move back - it would just mean that I'd have to pay a little extra for that month. If we continuously exceeded the limit, I'd just upgrade to a hosting package with more allotted bandwith.

As it stands now, however, we're using only a fraction of our allottment, so it's not even a concern.

I like the idea, except for the fact that SWfans loads WAAAAY too slow for my patience. I have a cable modem and it takes the darn pages forever to load. That is why I am only on there when I need to be or I would go nuts!

The vBulletin GJO forums are proceeding well. In order to not cause confusion as we are still discussing the idea, they are currently marked private/invisible. However, if you post your request here, I could add you to access mask for a look..
