View Full Version : A spar anyone?

::She had still basic skills but nothign did better good than sufffering pain while learning, made you learn quicker or learning that you can do it very well. She looked around for someone to spar, her saber in one hand. She put it in her belt on her black pants, perferring to use steel.::

Anyone for a spar?

Sejah Haversh

There was somethign about real steel that Sejah loved, it was what he was raised on. Knowing it wasn;t quite correct to wander around the complex with a real blade, he did anyway, not quite ready to give it up quite yet.

Reaching one of the training complexed, the brown mongoose spotted a woman with a saber, and a smile turned up teh corners of his mouth. Altering his course, he entered the room and spoke as he bowed and walked at the same time, "If you plan on using a blade, I will be all for it, if you will have me."

Setting his lightasaber aside, Sejah unwrapped the roll of burlap from around his tulwar scimitar. It was much like a saber, but held what others called 'Arabic' design to it. It was of good make, not excellent, but it had always served him well in competition. Executing a swift piroutette, the Nehantie smiled again. "What will the rules of engagement be, milady?"

::Azhure turned to face the man who had spoken and smiled slowly as she flexed the blade in her hand. She bowed her head in honour of his honour given::

It would be a pleasure to engage in a spar with you

::She then thought about the rules and spoke what was exactly in her mind::

As for the rules: No killing, use all you've got and no sabers. We will try and get by without them.
You honour me with your acceptance.

::She stood up with her back straight, blade in both hands, in the centre of her chest as she nodded her head in the manner she had grown up with to honour your opponant. Her own blade was a plain hilt that fit her hand perfectly, to the very weight of it. It was unadorned, as she did not believe in making a killing weapon look 'pretty'. The sharp sword part itself was thin and flexible, fast to slice and vibrates perfectly with any wind if used the right way. It was also sturdy and strong in it's own way and had not let her down before. But this was a spar not a fight as such and that was not of that much importance::

Do you have anything to add to the rules?

Sejah lowered his tulwar and stepped his fight leg back while placing the flat of his left pawm on his right bicep in an odd opening stance.

"No teasing knicks if they can be avoided, "Sejah added to ehr list, smiling a bit, "Though they are fun, I have a very short supply of clothign right now, and don't feel like sewing up slashes in my shirts tonight. Other than that, I'm game."

Nodding to her, the brown mongoose pushed his lean further forward over his left knee, his body turned at such an angle that he was being viewed directly from the side to her, his left arm blocked by his body.

(OOC- I've not written a swordfight in some time, so be prepared for an onslaught of maneuvers. Fencing is the best thing that Sejah does, and he was a champion where he comes form, so don't expext a light challenge from him, or me.)

OOC: dont worry, i like challenges. Azhure wont be so easy either, as a trained ex-assasin she had to learn so perhaps this will be an interesting fight. I normally write in saber so this'll be an interesting one. And now that we've swapped stories shall we begin? <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/image/emoticons_classic/smile.gif ALT=":)">

::Azhure relaxed her hand for a second and wieghed it in her hand, her body getting usde to it in her hand. Her movement would now be smoother, but she did not know his skill and that was always a chellenging gamble. If she lost she knew she would have to train. If she won, she would still train harder. The problem was to know when to stop. She kept these thoughts to herself and nodded to her opponant.::

Your terms are agreed upon. May each lose and win with honour.

::She put her sword in the sunlight, closed her eyes and twirled it around. She opened her eyes to see where the light had been caught. Closer to her or to the opponant, the light being closer to one would start first::

The beam of light was reflected near the center of the two of them, but closer to Sejah. It was a method of indication he ahd seen before, but was not commonly used where he hailed from as that it could be manipulated by the one weilding the reflecting blade. Swinging his rear footpaw out and backwards, the brown mongosoe cros-stepped to the left, his body remaining sideways to Azhure as he did so.

He studied her for a moment, wishing he had gotten the chance to study her practice movements beforehand, but knew that wishign would get him nowhere at the moment. Instead he focused on the here and now, closing his mind to that outside the 'ring' and his opponent. It was a skill he had developed over years of practice, and some called his skill with it unfair. He didn't know he was actually tapping the Force, having always mistaken it for natural skill.

Finally, Sejah doubled up his pace before spin-steppign and wheeling around, darting in quicklt to swing a low to high diagonal strike that Azhure easily blocke,d and he follewd with a quick backspin of the blade and being denied once more. A few more parries, and he began to see a pattern. Patterns, movements, bodily twitches; all things he noted and studied on his opponent. Lashign out again with a series of simple, and minorly complex maneuvers, Sejah suddenly pulled a change-up, stopping a swing halfway and diverting it to a lunge, seeing how Azhure would handle it.

(OOC- do you know what a tulwar is?)

OOC- Nope. basically I made her a mostly steel person is to learn these kinds of things properly, you'll be a good help =)
Perhaps we could discuss moves you or I might do on aim/msn/yahoo.

if im crap Im actually learning as I go, but I dont totally suck.

IC:
::While he had been attacking her, she noticed he was watching her movements. She was also watching his attacking habits, and knew he would watch hers when it came to her time. Sejah then stopped the swing half way, but her eyes were just quick enough to notice the start of a lunge, and flipped backwards, the point of the blade just missing her. Her blade caressed her hand and she jumped into the air, turning as she came down, and her blade went for thelegs. She had seen his attacks enough to know he would miss it. Sure enough he jumped as it went down and she took the opportunity to catch him offgaurd. Her legs went to trip him, but he got up just in time and as their blades clashed with each other she smiled. It felt good to spar again with an experienced fighter of steel.
She also did a series of patterns used in training sessions, then finished it off with a triple spin and aimed a fast swoop towards the shoulder blade. She would see how he reacted::

OOC- I took Kali for a while, so Sejah will be using several tricks from that art, and have also studied Kendo and Bushido on my own time. But I haven't taken any classical fencing, lessons... And this is a tulwar, it is a type of saber-like scimitar of Middle-Eastern origin. Sejah's has the hand guard like the top one, but blade is more like the lower.

---

Though he had many opponents in his career, Sejah had never fought another species before, and very few females of his own. It was enough to distract him slightly, but as Azhure went for the leg sweeps, he realized that now was not the time to be thinking about species or gender.

Azhure fought with a flourish that would have been learned at a school or through private instruction, not one fully suited to true combat, but one to be reckoned with nonetheless. As beautiful as it was, arts learned from masters for the sake of just learnign them often fell into pattens, and her final slash after the spins was little surprise, Sejah thought, still not understandign how often the Force augmented his judgement and reflexes, still mistaking it for natural skill.

Falling on to one knee and leaning hard back, Sejah ducked his head out of the way, not attempting to block the stike but instead letting it pass, his left paw shooting out and snagging her swordarm by the wrist, his digits digging into the wrist and squeezign teh tendons beneath as he did. (this hurts! Ouch, I know it, too...) With the moment of awkward surprise, the brown mongoose swung out his forward leg and snapped it into the back of her knees, forcing an involuntary drop that he guided by pressing back on her arm and pushing off his dropped knee to pin her to the floor quickly, his blade placed uncomfortably close to Azhure's neck.

With the pin, he relaxed his grip on her arm and smiled, his pink eyes sparkiling with good humor. "Your style is good, but it could use a little smoothing out, and possibly a few change-ups." Gently, he eased himself back off of her and extended a paw to help her up. "Come on, I don't hit an opponent while they are down. Let's try that again, shall we?"

::Azhure grinned with a sparkle in her eye and laughed::

I am here to become better and to learn, yes lets.

::She had learnt sword fight from a assain master, but mainly concentrated on sneaking, silent skills and silent killing. Nopt that it was much use here, or perhaps it was..She would try that later. For now she would continue the sword, this man had obviously used the weapon many times. She was used to throwing daggers::

OOC: Ill add later, dont reply. I dont have much of a reply right now. need inspiration. Tomorrow. sorry dudes >< I dont do bad posts with no thought.

::Azhure took his paw and stood up, grinning. her sword flashed as she went into a sudden lunge. Her blade was about to strike her opponant, when she suddenly twisted and kicked him in the guts, sending him backwards. She landed softly and flipped, aiming her blade above his head.

As she expected he countered it as he had gotten up. She counteracted his own attack, and aimed a a full side lunge with her blade::

Sejah worked for every breath he took, the kick having winded him. Azhure was a tricky opponent, and he wouldn't be able to extend so much courtesy to her in the future, he made a note to himself.

As she went in for the lunge, the mongoose spun back and threw his rear end out as to avoid getting impaled on her saber. Using his backwards momentum, Sejah skipped back and got some distance between them, bringing his tulwar low and behind hismelf again, hiding it from her.

It had been a while sinve he had been in a match with live blades, having often performed matches with dulled ones for safety. His own tulwar did not have a razor edge, but if struck with properly, it could still be lethal. Siezing the right moment, Sejah dashed in again, swinging in his blade and striking hers hard, sending a shockwave through both before wheeling it back around for the second parry and a deflected thrust.

:;The strike made her blade vibrated loudly and she put her left hand on the ground before coming up to steady herself, enough time to notice his next attack as she moved far left to avoid it. She placed her blade where he had aimed and as they locked she kicked his side before disengaging the blades.

She deflected an attack, though it hit hard on her blade again and made it vibrate again, disbalancing her slightly. Azhure just missed a attack by a millisecond and flipped back to catch her breath, then went into a battle stance. She would have to give all she had, but she had not expected less for there were many better than yourself in this world, you just had to keep trying to defeat your own record.

She did not exchange a word. In battle, fun or not for fun, there was no need for words. She just awaited another attack, meanwhile making her senses more alert with the surroundings::

The kick had been unexpected, and Sejah slowed a bit because of it. But he remembered the words of his trainer, and that if he slowed in battle, he only stood more of a chance of being beaten.

Forcing the pain from his mind, a hard feat, Sejah kept up his kevel of slikk on his blade; somwtimes beating Azhure's around with it, and sometimes defending hismelf.

But when the chance for a high-speed parry acme about, Sejah siezed it. Their blades flashed and occassionally sparked as they clashed together quickly as if it were a rapier duel. The mongoose poured on his skill, weaving his blade around hers in an attempt to pull her saber out of the way, but found the challenge difficult.

Difficult, but not impossible. Once the parries became tight enough, Sejah spun his arm and their blades as well, finally wrenching hard enough to pull her saber form her hand.

(OOC- You can decide if you keep or lose your blade, either way is fine with me)

::Azhure felt the sword go out of her hand, and she quickly turned into its direction, also letting her left foot swing to land behind the weapon for balance and a quick stand. Her hands picked up the sword and she was quickly up, concentrating on the target.
Picking up speed, Azhure spun two times to avoid attack, and aimed her blade at his, and as they clashed she took advantage of the the distance and manuevered her weapon to go the opposite direction. Along with the weapon in one hand going the opposite way she turned her body to the side to ready herself for another attack in the sequence, and her other hand took his arm in a strong grip. She flipped and as the sword went along with it, so too did his hands holding the sword, making him become offbalance and land on the ground::

May 19th, 2002, 02:24:21 PM
Sejah knew better than to try and hold onto his blade as he spun, so he let it go and heard it fall to the hard floor jsut before he did. IT was not a graceful landing, nor a comfortable one, but it was better than accidentally impaling himself had he held onto his blade.

Glancing up, Azhure was almost atop him, so he quickly tucked up and rolled out of the way, and also out of reack of his tulwar.

Azhure continued to close in, so Sejah used his roll to come up on his knees, and as a downward slash was comiing in, he threw out his gloved paws and caught the blade between his palms, locking it there.

A slight smirk was on his face as he first puched back, then yanked ont eh balde as he twisted it sideways, out of her hand as he spun back around. Turnign the saber over, he dropped the handle into his paw and held it en guarde, though nodding at his blade still on the floor for her to get. He could ahve finished it, but he was having too much fun.

::Azhure noted that he could have attackd again, and took the time he gave to retrieve his sword by flipping toward sit and picking it up. She felt it in her hand, balancinging it and felt her body balance itself out too. It payed to balance yourself with the blade.
She looked at him and noticed he seemed to enjoy himself, a smile in the eyes. OBliging she grinned and flipped forward to face him again, her blade clashed with his, her left leg kicked his knee, making him buckle enough for her to parry to his side, aim a blow to the side of his body and flip around to aim a strike to his back::

The kick to the knee dropped him down, but he saw what was coming next. Rolling sideways to follow her movement, Sejah grabbed a flapping section of her pantleg and pulled hard, forcing her balance away from herself so she would end up on the ground as well, or at least making a few clumsy steps.

Siezing the moment, Sejah kept a firm hold on her pantleg and pulled his body the other way, countering her motion, and sending both of them to the floor.

Scrambling, the mongoose rolled back over his leg and pinned Azhure by placing his swordpoint to her neck. "Good match. Good sword, too, better balance than mine, actually. Oh, and I win."

::Azhure reached her arm forward and took the sword from his hands, getting up, holding the point of the sword near her forehead and bowing her head in honour. She then looked at him, and smiled genuinly. This man was good and she would fight him again. It was obvious he was very experienced and she had respect for that. She moved silently, picking up the thing on the ground, her saber and walked back towards him, shaking his paw. She did not say thank-you for she felt that did not say much, and hoped he knew she appreciated the fight. Instead she gave him her thoughts::

You are a strong warrior.

Exchanging swords back so that they each had their own, Sejah sheathed his and shook her hand. "Thank you, you're pretty good yourself, but you need a bit of practice with your grace. That's how I got you, you were a bit too rigid. Loosen up and you'll be a much more formidable challenge." He said with a smile.

"That's a nice saber, too. I need to replace my tulwar eventually, so amybe I'll have to ask where you reccomend to get a good blade." He added to diffuse any frustration at the loss that she still might be carrying.

::Azhure nodded and then looked at him curiously::

Perhaps I'll make a trade. if you were to teach me a better approach to sword fighting, I'll make you a new blade. I make my own blades.
