View Full Version : Can anyone give me a good challenge? (Open spar)

Satine stands on the rafters above his courtyard, his sleeveless black trenchcoat fluttering in the wind, waiting. The Jedi had gotten good at that lately. Just waiting. He had sent a challenge out on the JediNet, and this time he hoped to get a response...

Sejah Haversh

Thinkign he was alone, Sejah wandered out of the main building and into one of the courtyards throwing a few practice punches and arm blocks at the air in front of himself. The brown mongoose was noticed by a Jedi for his fencing skills, but he was also decent at empty paw as well. Lookign around, he saw no one else, and so he skipped up his step and performed a jumping roundhouse kick, landing in a defensive squat.

But the landign shook loose his lightsaber from the folds of his belt, and it went clattering to the stone floor. Shaken out of his fun practice, Sejah scrambled to pick it up, only then noticing then the figure standign on the rafters above. Picking up his saber, he looked up as he tucked it back into his belt. It was his second day in the complex, and he hadn't seen or met many of its inhabitants yet, so he called up,

"Hello! What're you doing up there?"

(OOC- I'm up for a spar, either saber or hand to hand. Sejah's good, but not excellent. If you can mess with his mind, you'll win)

Satine jumps down from the rafters, landing without a sound, and smiles at Sejah.

"I was actually waiting for someone to spar with. You're Sejah, aren't you? I seem to recall bumping into you at the bar. You up for the spar?"

Sejah Haversh

Slightly surprised at Satine's silence in his landing, Sejah thought for a moment and then replied, "Well, sure I'd be up for a round or two. And my name is Sejah, you have a good memory, though I don't recall meeting you. Then again, I ahve seen so many new people in the last two days I have become a bit confused as to who is who. What is your name? And what sparring format should we use?"

Satine puts his shoulder length silver--almost whhite now--hair into a ponytail to keep it out of his way as he speaks.

"The name's Satine Capashen. And as for the sparring format, that's up to you."

Sejah paused for a moment. his paw drifting to the light saber tucked into his belt. Lookign back at Satine, he shrugged and said, "Well, I was always better with a blade than empty-handed, so, mind if we use these?" he asked, pulling his saber handle out and passing it into his right paw.

He was not trained in the specifics of using one, but he ahd been a chanpion fencer on his homeworld. One of the few actual skills he posessed. He had been ablt to practice a little with the new weapon, but needed some more work to polish his actions.

Satine shrugs.

"Sure."

Putting a hand into his trench-vest, Satine pulls out a polished metal cylinder. Hitting a button on it, the hilt makes a long, drawn out, hiss sound, like that of a sword being taken form its scabberd. A pure black blade extends from the handle.

"Ready?" He asks, getting into a ready position, his sabre held in a two ahnded grip.

"As I'll ever be..." Sejah thought to himself as he powered up his lightsaber as well, the hum becoming familiar to him now. His blade was blue, and he stepped back and performed a few practice swings to familiarize himself with the lack of blade weight.

Looking back to satine, he cricked his neck and raised the lightsaber to a guard satnace and replied, "I'm ready."

They slowly circled for a little while, each judging each other's movement and skill. Sejah twirled his saber in his paw once, and then suddenly darted in , sweeping a blow from low to high, hoping he wouldn't actually hit his opponent.

Satine cartwheels backwards, no hands though, as he had to keep them on his weapon. Landing to Sejah's side, he stabs quickly, the blade, instead of cutting leaves a small burn mark as the tip carresses his opponent's shoulder.

"By the way, these weapons can be set for a low burn setting instead of cut."

Sejah stumbles as he feels the burn of his shirt and fur. The spemm was not a pleasant one. Pausing as Satine explains, the mongoose sets his saber to the lower setting and nodded, "Thank you, I didn't want to hurt you by accident."

With that the bout was refreshed, Sejah spinning a series of deflected blows before dropping and letting his saber fall into his other paw as he swung out at knee level as Satine's defense was still strung out.

Satine jumps backwards, but the sabre still strieks him in the left knee. He looks athr the burn, and then executes a heavy over head blow, which Sjeah barely blocks. Spin kicking his opponent back, Satine stabs...

The lunge, one of the most difficult attacks to learn to block, but Sejah smiled as he spon his saber down; pulling Satine's black saber out of the war while stepping in and striking his skeek with the heel of his palm as he ducked under his arm and past him.

"I'm better than that, son," Sejah catcalled him, standing sideways with his saber pointing away from his opponent.

(OOC- swordfighting is one of the few things Sejah can do well, and he's darned good at it. Don't underestimate him, he'll be able to weard off complex attacks and such. Just don't ask him to hit a button for a correct floor in an elevator...)

"I can see..." Was all Satine said, going at Sejah agan. He launches an attack, which is blocked, and then tries again. This time, as Sejah blocks, Satine snap kicks him in the chest, knocking him backwards.

{OOC: Lol! I'll remember that. }

SAtaggering back and rubbing his chest for a moment, Sejah realized that he had actually been the one to underestimate his opponent. Shifting up a gear in his mind, the mongoose relazed for a moment and castually walked in, swinging a mid-level strike sideways, an easy attack to block.

For a minute he performed only simple moves, and their lightsabers dodged and parried expertly. But finally Sejah saw his opportunity. HE sped up the momentum carried by a lw to high swing, and smashed Satine's defense far away from him. Siezing the opportunity, Sejah ducked under Satine's arm and sped behind him, spinning and lashing out with his saber as he did, catching the youth full across the back.

Satine hisses in pain as the sabre burns its way across his back. He rolls away, and then gives Sejah a Force push as he regains his footing. When Sejah stumbles backwards, Satine uses the Force to increase his speed, and then stabs quickly...

Somethign hit him like a hard wind, and Sejah lost his concentration and balance momentarily, only to look and see Satine comign up on him faster than he thought possible. Switching his lightsaber back to his right paw, the mongoose corss-stepped backwards and barely turned Satine's blade aside, narrowly missing himself.

But in his block, Sejah ahd not been able to fully deflect the black saber, and they were momentarily caught in a corps a corps, an arm wrestling match by the hilts of their baldes. Gritting his teeth and exposign his fangs, Sejah pushed as hard as he could to keep Satine from bringign hia blade back across and hitting him, but it was mroe difficult than he had imagined. At least with a steel blade he could press on the back of his own balde and turn it to force his opponent back, but he didn't dare touch the glowing blue rod of light extending from the silver hilt he gripped tightly.

Out of primal instinct, Sejah's normally pink irises began to turn a crimson red, as all his species dod when they were angered or excited. When they blazed a blood red, he snarled and bocked up all his resolve and shoved forward, imagining his opponent flying backwards.

And that was exactly what Satine did. Sejah had unwittingly unleashed a Force push--and a stong one at that--throwing his opponent back a good distance. Horrified, Sejah dropped his saber and stepped back, his eyes flashign back to pink nearly immidately. Glancing from Satine to his paws, and back again, his mough hung open in shock of what had just happened.

Shaking his head to clear it, the brown mongoose stammered, "Are you okay? I didn't hurt you, did I?"

As Satine is flying, he instictively taps into the Force, and flips, landing on his feet quite a bit aways. He grins in amazement, looking at Sejah.

"That is some serious power! I'm fine, by the way..."

Sejah Haversh
May 13th, 2002, 12:16:12 AM
Shaken by the display of power he had just performed, Sejah powered down his lightsaber and stepped back, afraid that he might do something else by accident.

Though Satine was smiling, Sejah was still in shock and was shaking his head, looking at his empty paw. "How did I... Did I? But... this-, this doesn't make any sense, I cant't..." He began to babble, his eyes wild when he looked back to Satine.

He was deeply affected, and afraid of what he had just done, and didn't realize that it was a skill he would eventually learn. He understood very little about the Force, and had he a master, Sejah wouldn't have been nearly as scared.

(OOC- You can snap him out of it, and then we can resume the spar. Sorry, I wanted Sejah's development to be rather realistic. He's never seen most of the things that the Force can do.)

Satine walks up to Sejah, and gives him a comforting smile.

"It's ok Sejah. You just instictively tapped into the Force. Quite a neat trick, actually."

Sejah Haversh
May 14th, 2002, 12:37:51 AM
"I-, I just used the force?" He asked, though visibly comforted by Satine's explaination. "Okay, I guess. Sorry about stopping the bout like that. If you're ready, I'll give it another shot."

Nodding, Sejah stepped back and powered up his lightsaber again, twirling it in his right paw to ease his mind. "Ready when you are."

And again it was begun, each of them coming in for a series of swings and blocks, though Sejah wasn't quite as fast as he had before, his mind still not fully cleared form what had just happened, though he was slowly regaining concentration.

Satine smiles a bit as he keeps pace with Sejah. He actually felt sorry for him. That wasn't the best way to first use the Force, actually it was quite disturbing...

Sejah tried his best to get back into the flow of a fight, calling up complicated blocks and attacks, though finding Satine able to rival them all. Twisting around, he went for an old standby, trying to score a hit on his opponenet on the side of the ribs, but something went wrong, and Satine was not only able to block it, he also delivered a connecting blow as well, scoring on Sejah's upper left arm.

Stepping hard away from him, the mongoose grabbed his arm with the paw he hald his saber in, and glanced back at Satine in shock. Something was wrong, he had not fared so poorly in a very long time.

In the pit of his heart was the spirit of a warrior, and blood of the Sherouve coursed through his veins, though he did not know of their tie to his family line. Venting a sigh of frustration, Sejah released his hold on his arm and lowered his saber, lifting his gaze to look straight at Satine. He had been holding back, treating his opponent as a student rather than an equal. That was about to change.

Without a word, Sejah spun his saber back up and charged Satine, striking with a speed a force he had held back before, feeling a sense of power as he did so. He could also barely tell where Satien would block next, something he had learned to tell as a sign that his opponent was having a bit of difficulty. But sejah didn't let up, hemmering blows and spinnign out of the way of others. His lightsaber didn't act the same way a normal sword did, but he was fast growing used to it.

Satine begins to breathe heavily as he blocks the attacks, and then has an idea. Tapping into the Force, Satine lifts a small rock off the ground, and sends it into Sejah's blade, distracting him with the smoke, and sparks it creates. Quickly stabbing, Satine aims at the Jedi Padawan's chest area.

As the biting dust flew into his eyes, Sejah rolled backwards, then yelled as he felt Satine's blade dig across his left chest, the blade burning like mad.

All he could do was retreat form such an attack, and that was what he did. Skipping backwards, he rubbed his eyes with a gloved paw and them opened them to see Satine still coming at him. Though they stung, Sejah had to keep his eyes open, and he threw up a wild block to counter another incomign swing.

It barely worked, but that was good enough for the moment. Three more blocks were made before Sejah could throw a swing of his own, finding it turned aside before having to fend off another volley of swings. His eyes burned, but he was slowly learnign to pay attention to his other senses, mainly his ears. Following the pitch of the humming sabers, he found himself able to redouble his efforts at defence, and began to even the playing field.

Blue on black flashes swung around them as their sabers clashed and the opponents circled, each lookign for a chance to move in.

Satine found his first, and strung Sejah's defense out too far before sendign a low swing to his leg. That was enough to trop Sejah to his knee, his teeth gritting in pain, and he held up his lightsaber in surrender to Satine while grabbing his leg with his other paw.

Tears had streaked his face form the bits of rock, as well as the pain from the latest two bows to hit him. His voice strained as he slowly stood back up, testing his weight on his leg, Sejah powered down his lightaber and said, "I yield, I yield. Ouch."

Looking into satine's eyes, the mongoose then passed his saber handle into his left paw and extended his right in handshake manner. "I've not lost in a long time, good job, kid. Maybe you can teach me some of that fancy stuff sometime."

Disengaging his sabre, Satine clips it to his belt, and shakes Sejah's hand.

"Sure. You weren't bad yourself. Normally not many can give me that good of a challgnge. Oh, one more thing...don't call me kid..."

The 14 year old grins at this, to take away the sting of the words.

Gripping his hand firmly to show that though he was beaten in that bout, he still had strenght left in him, Sejah nodded and smiled.

"Sure thing, Slick." He said, rememberign a student who had once had an aversion to being called his age, "Still not used to these things, though, maybe in time I can give you a better chanllenge than this one." The mongoose added, holding up his lightsaber to show what he meant.

"Thanks. Now, could you tell me where I can get some ice? These burns really hurt. I'd imagine your bacvk isn't feelign all that great, either."

"Right. The Med bay is this way." Satine says, leading Sejah towards the building nearby...

May 20th, 2002, 02:04:41 PM
"Thanks, pal," Sejah smiled as he replied, following Satine to the Med bay, though limping slightly.

Along the way, his curiosity got the better of him, and he asked, "So, how long have you been here? You're a darn good fighter, and some of that stuff you did was very interesting. Do they teach stuff like that to new guys like me?"

Alpha
May 20th, 2002, 04:22:29 PM
"Well, I've been here longer then most, though not always as a Jedi. MY background is...spotted...at best. As for the moves, some of those you learn in fights, but some you can get caught...

Sejah Haversh
May 20th, 2002, 04:25:01 PM
"Caught?" Sejah immidiately questioned, though a smile was on his face to ease the inquiry, "What do you mean, 'caught'?"

Alpha
May 20th, 2002, 08:25:37 PM
Satine blinks in surprise, and then smiles.

"I meant to say taught, but some of those you can get caught doing too. The ones you get caught doing are ones Jedi normally don't use--you know, like streetfighting techniques that're really dirty. Others you could ask one of the Warrior Jedi to teach you. Like me."

Sejah Haversh
May 20th, 2002, 09:04:12 PM
Sejah chuckled at the mistake in Satine's word, adn understood what he meant after that. "You're a Warrior class Jedi? Wow, how long did that take?"

Then re realized he was asking a fair amount of personal questions, and retracted his inquiry, "Sorry, nevermind, I'm just curious, you don't have to answer that. I'd like to be a good Jedi, hopefully I'm not too old to be taught right. I know that teachign some of my older students was hard."

Alpha
May 21st, 2002, 01:04:34 PM
"Shouldn't be that hard to teach you. We have some older people training without any problems."

Sejah Haversh
May 21st, 2002, 07:53:08 PM
"Well, that's reassuring." Sejah replied, limping slightly as he walked.

When they reached the medical bay, they explained the nature of their wounds, and after a breif scolding, were given attention. As he lay back on a spare bed, with some ice in a bag on his leg over a layer of medicinal cream, Sejah looked over at Satine and chuckled, "Well, at least I should be in shape enough to go a round again tomorrow. That is, if you're up to it."

Satine chuckles, but shakes his head, smiling.

"FRaid not, my friend. I think I'm going to take a few days off and go hunt a Sith or two..."

Sejah Haversh
May 22nd, 2002, 06:15:40 PM
His eyebrows arcing, Sejah nodded in approval and smiled, "Well, if you were able to take this swordmaster down, I'm sure a Sith shouldn't be that much of a problem." He said, though he didn't exactly know what a Sith really was.

"And if you're up for a re-match when you get back, I'll be here."
