Okay, let me list what this is...
It is twofold. It is extention to the minefield, with the NRSF designed Nuclear Mine - a 20 Gigaton yeild explosive device that is proximity detonated. These are seriouslty destructive. Second, is a ground based laser defence system, superlaser in power.
Combined with the other defences and such, the fact is, Yavin is nothing more than a TSE and TSO trap. It's designed to suck em in and then the defenders sit back and wipe them out.
The reason why we have succh massive defences is not only this is a trap, but it allows the fleets to not be tied to defence

There is more BTW. Believe me, Yavin is the safest place in the Galaxy by the end of the year
