Okay here is the moment we have all been waiting for the start of the summer box office
contest which will go from May 3 to Labor Day Weekend. First let me go over the rules.
1 Predict the top 5 movies in order of finish and predict how much each film will make. To make
sure people don’t make the same prediction post your dollar figures to the nearest ten thousand,
example 25.58.
2 For every film you place in the correct order you get 5 points, so if you get #1- #5 right you
would get 25 points

3 The closets person to each of the five films also gets points and they are as follows:
1- 25
2- 20
3- 15
4- 10
5- 5

4 Also the 2 or 3 (not sure about the fourth yet) Holiday Weekends (Memorial Day and Labor
Day) will count double points so those weekends could be a difference in winning.

There will be prizes awarded at the end so good luck to all. The contest begins now you have
until May 4 9:00 AM EST to get your predictions in.

To help you out I am listing the movies opening May 3
Spiderman
Deuces Wild
Hollywood Ending

By the way CMJ will be assisting me to make sure the contest is run fair besides I need all the
help I can get ;)

If the point is to get the order of the movies right, then what's the use in predicting their totals? Just curious...:angel

I guess Reaper answered that question, also I don't expect anybody to post predictions yet, I would wait until at least tomorrow when we know how much the top 5 made, would be easier to figure out what will be in the top 5.

Those rules look vaguely familiar. :p

BTW, July 4th us on a Thursay so I'm guessing that they'll look at the Thurs - Sun period as a Holiday weekend also.

We tried not to copy the rules exactly Darth23...I went off of what I remembered from the past. If they are the exact rules then I guess my memory is better than I thought.

My contest has more points for guessing the top 3 movies in order - other than that is pretty close.

My contest has 3 winners overall:

*Most points at the end of the Season

*Most number one movie gross wins

*Random drawing for anyone who has played at leasr 4 rounds.

Btw, I'm doing an Openign Weekend contest here:

The winner gets an AOTC theatrical movie poster

We might have more than one 1 winner too...depending on how many ppl participate in the contest. We've discussed a Gold, Silver, and Bronze type scenario depending on the numbers. :)

So CMJ I guess everybody else is waiting to see what the box office experts think (though I think that is mistake, I used that last year and it hardly ever helped me) people better start posting tomorrow or noboby will be winning a prize ;)

I think you all are vastly underestimating the pull of the spider...

Comic book freaks + Evil Dead freaks = mass mania... ;)

1. Spiderman: 82.2948759345879
2. Scorpion Dude: 12.563847594
3. Changing Lanes: 7.364848429
4. Murder by Numbers: 5.28495340
5. Hollywood Ending: 4.9029485734

1 Spiderman 82.59M
2 Scorpion King 11.75M
3 Changing Lanes 9.25M
4 Murder By Numbers 6.65M
5 Deuces Wild 4.24M

Jedi Master Carr

Here are Lee's prediction if you are interested
1 Spider-Man $79.0
2 The Scorpion King $8.2 - 55%
3 Changing Lanes $6.4 - 29%
4 Life or Something Like It $4.6 - 26%
5 The Rookie $4.1 - 27%

With that I am going to change my predicitons a little, I didn't realize how few theaters deuces Wild was opening in (1480) and that it is an MGM film, I doubt it will crack the top 5 now, also Hollywood Ending is opening only in 780 theaters so I don't see that doing very well either.

Looks like Mu is going into the cents :p Just a reminder you have about 24 hours to go, the deadline is 9AM EST the numbers I think come out around 11 AM at the earliest so there isn't any way anybody can cheat.

I won the first weekend, last year and it didn't do me any good :p Also he has chance to make it up with Memorial Day and Labor Day (maybe the 4th will depend on what we do there) I am also thinking about adding a bonus for AOTC's weekend where you get double the points if you pick Thursday-Sunday's gross only for AOTC though the rest of the films might be hard to pick there.

sirdizzy
May 6th, 2002, 07:55:41 AM
i only lost by 5 points last year and that was because of my slow start i didn't win anything for the first 4-5 weeks after that i never lost

and it looks like i will get points for the rookie too

me getting off too a good start does not bode well for you guys

When the final numbers are released I may take the #2 film this week...so thats pretty good for me. I didn't get the top 5 in the correct order however.

Jedi Master Carr

I don't know which film will be #5, Life and Rookie were virtually tied according to the estimates, the actuals should reveal the which one gets the 5th spot.

Master Yoghurt
May 6th, 2002, 10:37:00 AM
My thoughts excactly JMK. It is an estimate, and the difference is only about 20,000. The fifth spot may very well change when the final numbers are released.

sirdizzy
May 6th, 2002, 04:13:40 PM
