This is Jes posting from Jeahova's computer. Take a joke people. I only made that post to lightening the mood, not to say that I have gotten away with anything. I actually find it kind of a strange combination of luck and fate that despite the people that I have to face on several fronts, and how much crap I have to take from time to time, I am still standing. It wasn't meant as an insult, but yes the underlining intent of my joke was to laugh at the stupid allegations that have been brought against me, and hopefully lightening things up. I have to admit in a way I am kind of impressed that I have such an infamous reputation and haven't done half off the things that would deserve it.

If I offended you, then sorry, but what I posted wasn't meant to be insulting - it was meant to be amusing. I'm sure I'm not the only person who found it funny.

I understand that you wanted to clarify your reasons for the post, Jes. But generally speaking, it's not a good idea to start another thread about a closed thread: If we wanted the conversation to continue, it wouldn't have been closed. :) That goes for everyone. It seems like, everytime a thread is closed around here, someone starts another thread - either trying to continue the conversation or asking why the first one was closed.

Assuming that we can all discuss this maturely, this thread will stay open. But in the future, any threads about closed threads will be closed as well. Just FYI. :)

Aside from never seeing that syntax before, there are several things which are set up in a simply bizarre method, such as attempting to modulous an array of unassigned and unclassed variables.

What compiler do you use? And are you sure you're using C++? Printf is not a reserved command syntax, at least not in any compiler I've used.

Oh, and there's too much wrong/omitted in that for it to compile.

I've always preferred something smallish. I'd be quite happy with 2000 model WRX 5 dr - or for a bit of fun, a Forester. Except it's not the version the USA gets - it's got a turbo. Mmmmm, tasty. Especially as they are easily and safely powered up to about 300hp.

The sportscar for people who don't drive sportscars!

Automatic transmission, but 0 to 60 in 3.9!!!

BURRRRRN rubber BURN!!!!

I stay away from vipers, as I've been there, and done that. Those things have an interior smaller than that new Jedi starfighter, and if you're wearing shorts...you will burn the HELL out of your legs on the side exhaust pipes. But its faster than the speed of lint, and that is profound.

As for me, I really really want a Chevy Camaro... but if I can't have that, then I want a Pontiac Firebird... and if I can't have that, I want something just as sleek and just as sporty. I like those types of sporty/muscle cars.

And in my midlife crisis stage, I'll probably want me a metalic purple Chevy Corvette.

Good man... :)

I absolutely love the 911 Turbo... the redesign done for the 2000 model was a great move... it looks even better, IMO, than the '78 model (classy, classy car if you've ever seen one).

What amazes me is that, as of the 2001 release, the 911 Turbo can get up to 19 mpg highway! That's amazing for a sportscar of that class.

And Charley.... you must be referring to the first few models of the Viper, because the GTS and the Roadster (RT/10) don't have side exhaust pipes anymore. Those side exhaust models alse were insanely loud...

An Auto Porsche.

CHARLEY YOU DESERVE THIS!!!!!

FORCE CRICKET BAT!!!!

WHAM!!!!

NO real sports car is an automatic, none, no way EVER, not even semi auto. Full manual. No F1 Style paddle shift either. Sequensial is fine, but NOT FRIGGING AUTOS!

I've always been impartial to BMW's - but not normal ones. It MUST be an M - M3, M5. Or an M1. Yummy.

I also prefer the non turbo Porsches. I just love hearing that flat six bark. The 911 Club Sport GT3 - OMG, that is tasty. Lightweight everything, no frills and just brutal. And availible from the factory with a full inbuilt rollcage and race preparation. Not as quick in a straight line as a Turbo.... but just plain outright more fun.

The other things I really love is high performance 4wd cars. The Impreza, is a given, the STI versions of course. The Mitsubitsi Evolution VII. Or even better - one of the cars from the Group B rally days. A Pugeot T16 Evo2, 400 hp easy. Or a short wheel base Audi Quattro S2. 600hp. Out accelerate F1 cars. A bit ponderous tho.

Or the most lethal Lancia ever made. the Delta S4, Space frame with remvable lightweight panels, this thing was 800kg in racing trim, was 200 made, came with a 2 litre supercharged AND turbocharged mid mounted motor, 4wd. Pushed 650hp at full boost and did 0-60mph in 2 seconds. On dirt.

And some good news for you USA muscle car fan, in a year or two your going to get a new Pontiac if the head of GM gets his way. It's going to show up every pretender big time. It runs a Calloway modded Corvette engine, is utterly gorgeous to look at, goes like stink, handles and brakes like almost nothing else this side of a Porsche or an M3.

Honestly, to look like it looks, go 0 to 60 in 3.9, and have an automatic transmission, you can call it a station wagon for all I care.

I couldn't give a rodent's posterior.

If I was a sportscar enthusiast, I'd learn to drive with 4 pedals under me and shift a gear every 5 seconds.

If its an auto, it's a conveyance

If it's a manual, now your talking. Even a basic poo box can be rowed along and some fun had with a manual. Nothing like slamming down two gears and oversteer sliding / overtake the semi on a greasy road. You just cant get real control with an auto, especially if your a tips and toes driver like me - you control the vehicle with the figertips, feeling what it does and also half steer using the pedals. In rallying fully 70% of the directional changes is done with the pedals. You use the steering to set up and fine tune.

You just cant do that in an auto. An auto removes necessary imput or worse, helps a stupid computer override the driver.

Lady Vader
Apr 10th, 2002, 08:56:32 PM
Fine and dandy... but most of us don't rally and really have no need for oversteer sliding (is that like a power slide)?

Charley
Apr 10th, 2002, 08:59:35 PM
You know, if sports car engineers devise a "Methane flow injector" system that can boost a car's acceleration and speed, yet it requires a metal probe to be rammed up my butt when I'm driving so it can use my butt gas to increase its power....

...I'm STILL not going to buy it!

Cause even though its making my car faster....

...ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS!

Just like manuals.

A sports car is not about speed. It's about driver involvement. A Miata (MX-5) is one of the most terribly fun cars ever made. It'd got a pissy amount of power, yet it's one of the most involving and outragouesly fun cars to drive. No one buys one of those in an limp wristed auto, because it completely ruins the experience. You just have to feel the gearshift in one of those things to understand why autos are a blight and a curse.

Besides, there's nothing like revving a car up to 6,000 rpm and dumping the clutch. Autos just dont do that.

Figrin D'an
Apr 10th, 2002, 09:40:33 PM
I understand why most people prefer automatic transmissions...

And honestly, most drivers shouldn't even attempt to drive anything but an auto... too much of a distraction otherwise.

But for me... if I'm going for a car like the 911 Turbo... it's manual all the way.

Just personal preference, I guess.

Morgan Evanar
Apr 10th, 2002, 10:28:23 PM
Interestingly enough, the Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic 4 door have very similar performance charateristics (Prius does the 0-60 faster, instant torque from the electric engine helps mucho)

I find the Civic more fun to drive cause its manual. Dumping the clutch RULES.

Could always go and get the best of both worlds and get Tiptronic. I'd still stick with a 5 or 6 spd gear box though.

911 is good, 911 gt 2 is so much better. People might laugh, but a Cosworth Escort is pretty sweet too, especailly if you get the rally version. Damn good.

Sports cars are all about speed. hell gotta have handling too. I have a 1984 Datsun/Nissan Maxima. (it has both names on the back, honest, but its technically a Datsun.) It talks to me, which is a good thing, because it lets me know when I leave my lights on.

Its a manual, and drives pretty well (most of the time). And I think I like my manual. 5 spd. :D

Of course, I'd rather have just about any car that is newer than 1984. 1990+ anything is my dream car. :)

Tiptronic is a pull job of an gearbox. It's the best auto, cause thats all it is - a fancy shift auto. In no way is it better than a manual. A true sequential is dynamite for a Manual (Seq rules), but if it dont have a clutch pedal - IT'S AN AUTO AND DESERVES DEATH.

6 speed manual gearbox..... drool........

911 is good, 911 gt 2 is so much better. People might laugh, but a Cosworth Escort is pretty sweet too, especailly if you get the rally version. Damn good

A Cossie is hard to mantain and not as good as the current breed of homologation cars. If you want a real rally rocket, Mitsubitsi Evo's are the way to go. The VI is awesome - the VII is Just Plain Sick. A WRX STI or 22B Impreza ranks as well.

Sports cars are all about speed. hell gotta have handling too. No, sports cars are about driver / machine interactions. That is why a Miata (MX-5) is slowish, but just one of the best sprts cars of all time. It feels like an extention of the body, does what you want.

The average driver cant handle a car that can go sub 15 sec quarters. If I was in the same car as most people, I would guarenttee they would kill them themselves trying to pursue me. The average fast car has performance reserves the majority just dont know about and are too skilless to use. Hell, even a MX-5 could blow away somethig far more powerful in the right hands in the twisty bits. In a 20 year old V8, I used to race the motorbikes. And win. Any car can be driven at incredible speeds if you understand the relationship between yourself and a car.

Dont diss NASCAR - there's more skill in that than is credited. However I do think Rallying is the hardest motorsport disciple to master. It takes not just raw balls, but experience and skill and pure car control.

There's a new Skyline coming out too..Sweet sweet car

GODZILLA RETURNS!!!! I've driven an R32.... geez, how can a car be that capable? It's only real problem is it's heavy. Other than that, Japan's best ever car. I'ld go as far as to say one of the 10 best ever. The Skyline GTR is incredible. You know those things can be modded to take 700hp with no real problem?

Yeah, but the 911 GT2 is more than twice as expensive as the 911 Turbo... :|

And come on, dissing NASCAR is fun. :)

I give NASCAR credit for having superior marketing... it found a target audience, roped them in, and manage to maintain or increase it's fan-base pretty much through breeding... NASCAR fans have kids, kids get conned into watching when they don't know any better, and are hooked for life... and the cycle continues.

Kind of like professional wrestling...

The parallels between the two are staggering... ;)

Except the crashes in NASCAR, unlike the fights in Pro Wrestling are real.

Hey, NASCAR is a good brainless thing to watch. Despite their appearence, it's actually quite technical to drive an oval. at 200mph. It certainly depends a lot on car setup, which is why a good crew chief is almost as big a star as the driver

I will conceed that.

Although, so many recent deaths on that racing circuit could have been prevented by better safety measures. Those cars are death traps. No HANS devices until recently, and they still have little to no crumple zone. And the insistant use of carburator restrictor plates is ridiculous...

It's difficult to build a crumple zone into a race car. In fact, they are basically useless at crash speeds. What you really need to do is to lengthen the time of the crash, to reduce the G-Forces involved. Sedan racers are built extremely tough. Whats more important is to keep the drivers area intact and the harness and seat mounts in place. If you can do that, the accident you can walk away from are incredible. Roll overs, while spectacular, are not that bad in a well desgined and constructed cage / safety cell and that is what NASCAR do well. Rally cars belt trees and bounce off. the reasn they can do this and normal cars cant is the primary and secondry safety systems that are absent in a road car.

If you can keep the passenger area in one piece, your going to survive huge accidents.

Where drivers get killed is in head ons or where the direction of travel is reversed or altered too greatly. The worst fear of a NASCAR driver is finding themselves with nowhere to go at 180 mph with a stall or a wreck right in front of them. That's the type of accident that killed Earnhart and those are the types that put stresses on the survival equipment that are too extreme.

The insistance on carby plates is to make sure the cars dont get over fast for the tracks. I often wondered why fuel injection isnt allowed and I realised - the power increase would raise speeds too much. The cars can run pretty well at 180 - 200 mph. A t 220, the added momentum is too much. Like drag racing, where electronic injection is banned - it would increase terminal velocities too much, even if electronics would stop nmessy engine detonations on 'fuelers.

Just like turbo restricters, the most hated item in rallying are about. At 300 hp, rallycars are a challenge, but not narky. At 600hp, they got too fast for mental thought - Group B rallycars were the first to be banned for being straight out too fast for humans to cope

I think you are only allowed to go 183.3 mph on most NASCAR tracks. I work at a Radio Station and we have those stats in my office somewhere. I will have to find them...

Funny you should mention the Miata, DT. That was a car I was able to sit in at the LA auto show, and this guy came around and said the car was so made for me. I gave him a funny look, but afterwards decided I'd get the car if I couldn't get my Camaro or Firebird.

And just to urk you, I'll get an automatic. :p (Even though the guy said someting about a manual and turbo-something or other engine).

I would never get a dedicated "sports car" and opt for an automatic. That defeats the purpose, unless its like the 911 and can actually hit insane speed and acceleration with an automatic.

Thats why I said what I said. The 911 turbo is the only sportscar I would go for, because it is the only one with that kind of performance in an automatic. I can't abide manuals though, so I don't (and won't) own a sports car, unless it actually IS the 911 Turbo.

More realistic to my desires would be a Jaguar sedan :). Burgundy exterior, tan leather interior. Fully load that kitty! :D :meow

I like my manual, because I can peel out when I turn corners and from stoplights. Wait..thats because it runs bad! lol my nephew thinks its awesome when I do it, but its always by accident. Sometimes my car "hiccups," and so I have to accelerate a lot from a stop, and feather the clutch - makes turning corners a lot of fun. :p And yes, I know its dangerous, but its either that or stall out.

Hopeless? Hapless? Yes you're right, hence why I don't trust myself behind the wheel of a car. :p I might be hopeless and hapless but at least I know when to say "No" - and judging by some of your sig pics of old, I think you should take a page out of my book. :D

Even with some of the chop jobs done to them.... like a Lexus V8 stuck in the front of one.

Yes... they are.

One of brother's mates is one such person. He put a Nissan FJ-20 turbo into a 78 Corolla station wagon. It looks like a right POS. It does 12's, eats Porsches alive. It's just plain wrong.

However, that wasn't his ultimate project. That was a Nissan 260Z, cut in half and with a 10 cm stitch job to fit full Skyline GTR drivechain, powered by a Mazda 20B rotary twin turbo. The guy has a death wish.
