It better be damn good. You talking with me for it!

Darth Viscera
Mar 28th, 2002, 01:14:06 PM
I pre-ordered it on ebworld.com with next day FedEx. I can't figure out how to work it. With RTCW, you could just get on and start killing. This game is really complex, and you have to time your saber slashes just right to circumvent the peculiarities of the game. That's why I can't wait for the spork mod, to play a game of void in the Naboo power core level.

SP is............great

MP(bots, anyway) is.......................great

Guess what, it's great :)

I'm going straight after to work to myself a copy of JK2 at the fry's Electronics just down the street! I've been waiting for this game!

Alec, all the reviews I have read have been glowing.

The only real gripes Ive found(so far) are there arent enough skins with enough variety, the ease of getting stuck in them at times, and one level cant finish if you do something in a particular way(its a bug, confirmed)

JungleCat
Mar 28th, 2002, 06:39:19 PM
Well, for that bug, they should probably be releasing a patch pretty soon. As to the skins, just wait, if they don't do anything, the fans will. There'll be quite a few skins soon.

ReaperFett
Mar 28th, 2002, 06:54:57 PM
They are, Raven worker type said they were looking into it right now:)

Doesnt help me get past level 4 though, does it? :)

Its running on a modified Q3 engine soooo....

Sys requirements.

Bare minimum:
500MHZ P3/ Athlon.
TNT2/ Voodoo3 class card.
128 MB RAM

To make it pretty:

~800 MHZ p3/ Athlon
GeForce 2 GTS/ ATI Radeon DDR
256 MB RAM

Make it Drool-worthy

1GHz Athlon/ P3. 1.4 GHz P4
GeForce 3 Ti200/ Radeon 8500 or better.
256+ MB RAM, Preferably DDR/ RAMBUS

What, JO getting released? Yeah, they used special stealth trucks to take the stealth CDs to stealth shops. Only reason I found it was because I walked into a stealth wall. On the bonus side, I paid with stealth money.

Hmm, on the first level, I think I figured out why the Imps lost the GCW. Are we quite sure Luke didn't say "I can't hit a thing with this blaster?"

Point blank range and you miss? I guess the Imps really did get weapons from the lowest bidder.

Shawn

People can miss at point blank range, you know. :p

Just had my first SP sabre fight. WOW!

He swung at me, I stepped back, I tried to push him over, he blocked it. Our sabres locked, I won, and slashed him down the middle. Nice :)

And then the level before, I did a roll to avoid a shot, threw my sabre as I was getting up, taking him out. This is how all games should be :)

AND AS A NOTE: SPEAKING OF THINGS SPECIFICALLY IN THE GAME IS CONSIDERED A SPOILER. USE THE TAGS PEOPLE

ReaperFett
Mar 29th, 2002, 11:17:10 AM
More cool stuff:

-Door opens. Gran tosses a Thermal. I push him and his friend over. What I didnt expect, was for the Thermal to go too, as the door shut :)

-Throwing your sabre, missing, but takes them out on the return :)

-Throwing your sabre and kebabing three :)

Oh, found two moves I dont THINK are in the manual. I'll spoiler mark them incase you want to found them:

WALL JUMP: Move into wall, jump
WALL RUN: move into and next to wall(diagnal) and press jump

Morgan Evanar
Mar 29th, 2002, 02:09:32 PM
Which group are you and COTF then? A crummier video card automatically knocks you down a notch =\

This game seems to be really fillrate dependant. Of course CPU and RAM make a difference, but if you are CPU limited, you can always increase the resolution until you take a framerate hit.

Lady Vader
Mar 29th, 2002, 02:15:56 PM
Well, Morg, all I know is I have a 1.7 GHz P4 and 256+ MB RAM (forgot exact number). But I think I only have a TNT2 video card right now. So... maybe I'd fall in the middle range?

Either way, I plan on getting a kick-ass video card in about a month and placing it into my new comp. The old comp will get the TNT2 until I upgrade the opperating system to something a lil better.

My 550 with a GeForce3 ti200 seems to be doing fine at 16-bit 1024x768.

[EDIT: I made it to the mine now.]

This game is growing on me. :)

Alpha
Mar 29th, 2002, 02:35:38 PM
I have a higher up P3 chip, so I'm in between barely makes it and the other one. I'm trying to gt enough money up for a P4, but that seems like it's turning into a lost cause. :(

And another thing. why don't they call this DFIII? It's the third Dark Forces, but now they're just sticking to Jedi Knight II? sorry, that has been bugging me for a while...:)

ReaperFett
Mar 29th, 2002, 02:51:49 PM
Because hes a Jedi :)

I have a P3 450, 128MB RAM and a Voodoo3 3000. After I got the Voodoo patch, it has been more or less flawless.

Lady Vader
Mar 29th, 2002, 03:17:08 PM
Do ya suppose I should download a patch for my TNT2, or it probably wouldn't make a hoot of difference?

Darth Viscera
Mar 29th, 2002, 04:57:45 PM
UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS!!!!!

sorry for yelling, but if you're running a video card that's 5 generations old, you'll probably squeeze out another 2% with the latest Dets.

Shawn
Mar 29th, 2002, 05:14:38 PM
Actually, she could probably get a whole lot more than 2% if she's running really old drivers.

Morgan Evanar
Mar 29th, 2002, 06:04:19 PM
I think we all have different perceptions of "running smooth."

My perception: All details cranked to max, maybe a minor thing ommitted, 1024x768, 32 bit color, and an absolute minimum of 30 FPS during a worst case scenario: Tons of enemies, effects etc.

Rie: What a mightly unbalanced system =\ A GeForce 3 Ti200 will make a WORLD of difference. Buy online, and get the Gainward(manufacturer). Its garunteed to hit GeForce 3 normal speeds, and will likely go to Ti500 speeds. While you may not understand this, tis a Good Thing (TM).

Shawn: her system is new. And the 12.41 (12.90 if you are will to use uncertified drivers) set provided the best performance on XP for all of the cards previous to the GeForce 3.

2k: I think the 7.50s were really good... but you'd prolly have some compatability issues with newer games.

I myself use the latest nVidia reference drivers 28.something with Win2k, but I have a mildly OCd GeForce 3 Ti200 (195 Core 215/430 mem) =D

Darth Viscera
Mar 29th, 2002, 06:15:47 PM
Hmm...maybe I should read the instructions for this game. That might explain why my performance is so sporadic.

Champion of the Force
Mar 29th, 2002, 06:55:12 PM
Which group are you and COTF then?
I've only got a GeForce 2 MX400 (64 mb) at the moment. Everything else is above and beyond what's required by the look of it though (Athlon 1600XP, 256 DDR Ram etc etc etc)

ReaperFett
Mar 29th, 2002, 07:45:52 PM
My version of running smooth: More or less at the top of the detail level, at full speed.

Darth Viscera
Mar 30th, 2002, 05:37:37 PM
mmm...I love this game.

*yawns as four Sith attack him with sabers drawn, ala the simpson's version of three musketeers. One saber stab turns all four (who happen to be in a column) into sheesh kabob.*

If anyone goes near me, force grip+ force push will send them falling off the catwalk. with spork, you could use the grappling hook to spider-man your way back up, which is fun. JOTM_NeO is back, baby! Muwhahaha!

Admiral Lebron

A HP N3250 Pavillion. Upgraded the 64 Ram to 192 RAM and added an additional 40 Gig externally.

Basically it has:

475 AMD K-6 2
Trident CyberBlade i7 AGB Moniter
ESS Maestro 3 (I think) for video and stuff (or its a 3D Now card)
5 Gig of HD internally, 40 Gig externally
DVD-ROM 8x
192 RAM

That should sum it up.

ReaperFett
Mar 30th, 2002, 06:54:39 PM

Ok, how bout I:

A.) download the latest drivers for my TNT2, just to help along performance, like Visc and Shawn suggested...

and...

B.) also look into the market for that card-thing Chris mentioned (dude, I will need to have ya online when i look for this).

Now, where do I go about finding said drivers? Just on their website, or somewhere else?

Pentium 2 or 3, I forget and am too lazy to look.

32 MB Ram

3.2 GB HD (50 MB free)

You could donate it to the museum. :p

I was surfing theforce.net and found this thing for a double bladed sabre. It only works in multiplayer, atleast that's what it says. Direct quote:

Dual Saber in Jedi Outcast
Sun, Mar 31, 02 07:26:33 PM EST

A very special thanks goes out to the people/groups that are credited for finding this out: Dan (OnlyOneCanoli), JediKnightII.net Forums, spite, and Toshiya[RAVEN]. He are the directions to get a double-bladed saber in multiplayer:

1. Start your own server.

2. Pull down console, type in "devmap mapname" [mapname is the name of any map, ffa_deathstar for example].

3. Take out saber, and deactivate it by hitting 1 again.

4. In console, type /THE DESTROYER or \THEDESTROYER [one of them will work]

5. reactivate saber

Dan adds the following comments:

Please not that this will not work in single player. Both blades can hurt enemies and make marks on walls. The animations are the same for the single-bladed saber, so it looks like you slice yourself a lot.

Ok, scuse me while I break up this fight fest, but have a question that i posted in another thread, but no one seemed to notice or reply to it, so I shall bug you here about it also:

"Ok, a lil help from you brainiacs out there...

In the MP, I was able to get the double bladed lightsaber to work. But it only worked once for me. Now when I try to get it to work again, it won't. What am I doing wrong?

This is what I did in the beginning to get the dual saber:

- started my own server

- pulled down console... typed in: devmap ffa_bespin

- hit tab... hit tilde

- took out saber and deactivated it

- pulled down console again

- typed in: \THE DESTROYER

- hit enter

- it automatically gave me my double bladed lightsaber

And that's how I got my double saber.

But now it keeps saying that cheats are disabled or not allowed or something, and I'm wondering what lil key I may have hit to cause this.

HELP!... please?..."

So, to repeat myself... HELP!!! :(

Youd have to find a chear enabled servr though

Lady Vader
Apr 4th, 2002, 01:34:46 PM
Well, I'm testing the saber thingy on my own, using my own comp as a server. When I tried it last night for the first time, it worked fine. But every other time after that when I tried, it said "cheats are not enabled on this server", even though I wasn't connecting to any other server.

Or am I totally not understanding how this whole mp connection works?

For instance, last night LL and I tried to get a game going, just from my comp to his, or vice versa, but for some reason when i tried to connect, I wasn't getting a list of servers, and when he tried to connect to me, he wasn't seeing my server. So, I am at a loss on how this whole connection thing for MP works. It's a bit different from what i'm used to (i.e. typing in phone number, IP addy connection, etc)

I did... still nothing... though if I'd host, I'd still get ppl coming in. It's like they could see me, but if i tried to find a server, I couldn't see it. It was weird.

I'll try again tonight, though.

I've been meaning to hash this out for CCnet, so here...

In XP, go to the start menu and find the Run... option

Run "Command.com" which will give you a DOS box

Type in "ipconfig", which will then tell you your IP

Give that info to whoever is trying to connect to you.

In the game, click on "Add favorite" type in the IP number, click on connection type to "favorite" and you should be all set.

That'll work for some people if they are on dial up or cable/DSL with static IP and no firewall, me however....notta chance since that just gives me my NAT network IP which is unreachable from outside. :p

Isn't brave enough to try multiplayer with his dexterity problems anyway though. :o

Join a multiplayer game as a spectator - it's really worth checking out at least once.

Or just play, anyway... The only Force power I use in MP is Healing.

You know... I'm having far more fun playing JK2 than I did Half-Life. I think it may have set a new benchmark for FPS games. The story is good, the graphics are drool-worthy, and running around with Force powers and a Lightsabre is just plain fun. Especially using Force speed to run around a room and hack up a bunch of enemies without getting scratched.

I didn't say that. I just said that it's better than HL. :)

The best game ever would be a tie between System Shock 2 and Thief Gold, IMO.

(After I finished the fight with Tavian, my game crashed. :x I had already spent about 10 minutes fighting her, and didn't want to do it again, so I turned on God mode. Morgan was here... he saw the whole thing.)

www.jediknightii.net

download the single player "Ladder" match.

You vs 56 Dark Jedi. No health packs, no added weapons. No second chances. Enemies range from Red-hood Reborn Dark Jedi, all the way to Desann himself. All to the tune of Prodigy's "Smack my Bitch up".

If you can beat all of them without using a single cheat, you are a badass :)

Thanks to Fett for the tip :)

Bah, that map was much easier than I thought it would be. :) I thought Tavion would be a problem (since I had a hard time with her in the normal game). But I zapped her with Force Lightening and she went flying out the window (quite literally!). I didn't even heal through the whole thing.

Insanely fun, though... I do plan on playing it multiple times.

Desaan was the only one who really hurt me. I started the fight with him at 100 health / 38 armor. Finished it with 58 health.

I've met Billy Dee Williams (in RL and in the game). Actually, just met him yesterday, as a matter of fact (in the game).

It was funny cause I was thinking "wow, they got someone that really sounds like him!", and then my friend came over and was looking at the credits in the manual and he read allowed "Lando played by Billy Dee Williams". I started cracking up.

I found out at lunchtime I know someone else in the Jedi Knight 2 manual, or rather he knows me. And no, not the real me, but QuiGonJ.

Shug_Ninx, aka Haden Blackman, provided continuity assistance for Jedi Knight 2. He answered a question of mine about the size of the manual for the game Star Wars Galaxies. :)

He's the planet designer for Star Wars Galaxies, one of the authors of The Essential Guide to Characters, and the author of a number of Dark Horse comic books, including an upcoming Jango Fett two-parter.

mmm..good times. I was playing this guy in CTF_NS_STREETS, and he kept on trying to lob thermal detonators at me. Well soon after the thermal detonators would leave his hand, I would instinctively force push them back to him, and they'd explode against him. He kept saying "How?" and I kept saying "mmm, controls all things, the force does. Motion, weapons. Save you it can."

I was walking around the map in an omnipotent sate of mind, that is to say, lightsaber disengaged, and walking instead of running. A guy would jump towards me, saber drawn, and a simple force grip+push would end them. It's really cool to lob a rocket back at your attacker using force push :)
