Tom Green's 'FREDDY' Gets Fingered
5 Times at 22nd Annual RAZZIE Awards




While the Hoity-Toity of Hollywood are holding their breath awaiting next Sunday's 74th Annual Academy Awards, the Hoi Polloi of the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation have already picked Tinsel Town's Top Turkeys in The 22nd Annual RAZZIE Awards. And the big "Winner" (If That's The Right Word) is MTV Host Tom Green and his widely reviled "shock comedy" FREDDY GOT FINGERED. The film, slammed by CNN as "the worst movie ever released by a major studio in Hollywood history," won a total of 5 gold-spray-painted $4.79 trophies, including Worst Picture. Four Awards went to Green himself, expected to be the first onscreen talent in The Annual Derby of Dis-Honor's 22 year history to attend and accept his Awards in person. Green was cited as 2001's Worst Actor, Worst Director, co-author (with Derek Harvie) of the year's Worst Screenplay and as Worst Screen Couple (Green and "Any Animal He Abuses"). "Winners" were announced the now-traditional 24 hours Before That OTHER Award Show, in ceremonies at The Abracadabra Theatre at MAGICOPOLIS, 1418 Fourth Street in Santa Monica. Complete with a Tacky Opening Number ("Hooray for What's No Good!") Tuxedoed Presenters, Envelopes and Clips of nominated films The RAZZIES are a lighthearted parody of Show Biz Award Shows in General (and The Oscars in particular).
The Foundation Members' choice for Worst Actress likely surprised no one: Mariah Carey in her screen debut, the stillborn/STAR IS BORN knockoff, GLITTER. Carey copped a whopping 60% of all votes cast in a field of five nominees. The balance of the RAZZIES went to one of 2001's Biggest Movie Disappointments, the monkey-brained Tim Burton version of PLANET OF THE APES. The film not only took Worst Remake or Sequel, it also won BOTH Supporting Awards: Original APES star Charlton Heston (also named for his work in CATS & DOGS and TOWN AND COUNTRY) was Worst Supporting Actor and former swimsuit model Estella Warren swam her way to Worst Supporting Actress as both The Human Love Interest in APES and the Character Equivalent of a Hood Ornament in Sylvester Stallone's formulaic Formula One drama DRIVEN. Results were determined by sending ballots to more than 520 Golden Raspberry Award Foundation members throughout 38 U.S. states and 10 foreign countries. The Foundation currently has a development deal with Nash Entertainment, which is now pitching next year's 23rd Annual RAZZIES for possible broadcast. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but am I the only one who thinks that the Razzies attempt to knock at least 1 major (and successful) film each year?

More than that. Note how the nominations always have a few big films, like Pearl Harbour, or TPM. Most nominations were there because they need a headline or two

Yea it made me sick that year when TPM got all those nominations, sure some critics didn't like it but it got basically mixed reviews (look at RT though they aren't great at chosing good vs bad they have TPM with a 59% which is 1 % short for Fresh, still that means mixed to me). Now PH and POTA was trashed just about by every critic but still there were worst movies, Bubble Boy and Town and Country were easily worse than both and neither were nominated. I think its because nobody saw those films so they would rather attack something that made money.

Well Tom Green fans would be really insulted by this... EXCEPT that Tom Green has turned it against the Razzies anyway and now there's nothing more to do than laugh. I think that was a smart move for sure, it pretty much makes the impact fizzle.

Anyway, there were way worse movies last year than Freddy Got Fingered and TWO of them are up for Best Picture at today's Oscars!! Wow, how amazing. Worst pieces of crap around yet they're honored with the highest award nomination.

POTA was a great movie, easily would make my top 10 list for 2001. The Razzies are full of crap and they always have been. Wild Wild West the worst of 1999?! Come on! There were practically a hundred worse movies no matter how disappointing WWW may have been.

95% of moviegoers liked/loved TPM, so that was pretty idiotic too. Critics in general liked TPM to a fair degree, most called it "pretty good" to "good." More sheer idiocy by a rather stupid awards show. They need to be more like the Oscars in that the Oscars are not afraid to nominate films that nobody has seen. If you don't nominate the actual worst films of the year, what's the point?! It may be subjective but there are clearly very poorly made films in any year that are unquestionably, UNDENIABLY worse than disappointing blockbusters. At least with a really expensive bomb like Godzilla the production values were still far higher than any independent film is ever going to have and as stupid as the dialogue was, as bad as the acting was, at least it had a few cool shots and some good action and cinematography. The movie still blew chunks, and perhaps "Most Disappointing Movie of 1998" might be an appropriate title/award, but not worst.

It would be hilarious if Episode II gets like 75% good reviews, then it makes $500 million, but just to be incredibly idiotic, the Razzies nominate it for a bunch more awards.

It should simply be automatic: the highest grossing film of the year is exempt from Razzies. It should be a rule. The highest grossing movie of any year is a great movie according to the majority of everyone on earth. 'Nuff said.

EP 2 mayb not have to worry I have a feeling that Crossroads will get a lot and then Rollerball will probably get worst sequel/remake, and then there is still that POC Scooby Doo to come out which I think will win worst movie award. As far as POTA it was no where near as good as the original and that is probably why it won and that Heston scene was just awful.
