Damn. I made a movie for my group at TGC, and it looks great... not complete yet, I need some clips from TESB and ROTJ... so I exported it to get some opinions, and it's all messed up.
The start is great, there's a logo that pops up, and D. Maul says isline about revenge.. but after that, it goes at 3 times the speed it shows up at when compiling and editting... and it's a load of horse dung now. I'm so frustrated I want to... well, I'll save that for my psychatrist but let me tell you I feel like 20 minutes of life has been wasted and will never be returned.

Okay, the mail is now fixed. It turns out I accidently used the "Express Mail" package, which would have made the packages $13.00 each. I went back and repackaged them in 4 first class "readypost" packages, and they only cost $0.80, except for the ones to the cali girls, which cost $1.49 because i sent 8 CD's just to CA.

The good news is that everything is all settled now, and the mail should arrive Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday. I shipped them at about 5:11pm, so they should be in transportation tomorrow.

Michael, if the installation program in the root directory of the CD doesn't work for starfighter or bridge commander, go to the "install" directory. I believe that's what it's called. run the setup program from there.

I've added DVD menus and chapters to the movie. You can download them from me to upgrade your LOTR package to something that is very much more professional looking.

Special thanks to Blind Voyeur, for supplying the background images for this project. He made a standard DVD of LOTR from the 4 CD SVCD rip, complete with two easter eggs- the full soundtrack and the 1978 animated film "The Hobbit"

When you start the movie up, it'll go to this screen:

Since we can't just have a plain old, boring JPG, the movie will automatically load the mp3 entitled "01-The Prophecy.mp3", the first audio file on the LOTR soundtrack, which should keep you busy while you peruse the menus. The song will keep playing even if you switch to another menu.

Click on "Play Movie", and it will...uh, do the fandango. Either that, or it will play the movie, as one would suspect.

Click on "Chapters", and it will take you to the Chapter pages:
first 1-4

Click on the left arrow, and it'll take you to the previous chapter page, or the main menu if you're on 1-4. Click on the right arrow and it'll take you to the next chapter page, or the main menu if you're on 17-19.

Back on the Main Menu, if you click on "Info", it'll take you to info regarding the LOTR soundtrack. I honestly didn't know what else to put there, but i didn't want to delete the "info" ring from the root menu, as that would screw up the beautiful picture.

To install, unzip the LOTRpatch1.zip file to the LOTR directory on your hard disk. The LOTR directory should already contain your two movie files:
The.Fellowship.Of.The.Ring.DVD.CD1.DivX-DVL.avi
The.Fellowship.Of.The.Ring.DVD.CD2.DivX-DD.avi
They should be named exactly that. If they aren't, rename them to that.
The movie.ini file goes in the directory along with your two movie files. The movie.ini file is programmed to search for the files for the menus in the MENU directory, so don't move them.

In order to play the movies with menus, you have to download a program called "Micro DVD Player 1.2", as it directly supports the programming process I used for the menus, unlike conventional AVI players. Here's a link to Micro DVD Player 1.2:

Once Micro DVD Player 1.2 is installed and running, drag the movie.ini file to the control bar of that app in order to start up the full movie, with menus. If you simply open either of the 2 movie files directly, you won't get any menus.

If you want to re-burn the movie onto 2 CD's, this time with the menus, you'll have to delete all other files, and not burn 01-The Prophecy.mp3 to your CD. It's a 5.36 meg MP3, which would put at around 706 megs. which is 4.2 megs above the limit for an 80 min CDR. Burn all files from the MENU directory but that mp3, but prior to burning open up movie.ini in notepad, search for:

[MENU]
Directory=MENU
AudioName=01 - the prophecy.mp3

Place a # sign next to AudioName. That will nullify the call to load the mp3 file. Otherwise, YOUR MOVIE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO LOAD because it can't find the mp3 file and panics. Your modified movie.ini menu section should contain this:

#AudioName=01 - the prophecy.mp3

Now you should be able to fit the MENU directory, the movie.ini file, and part 1 or part 2 of the movie into a 700 meg CDR. The final size will be 700.9 megs, and every 700 meg CDR I've encountered has an exact 701.8MB capacity for MODE1, which is a data CD of this type, so you're golden.

If you ever want to reenable that mp3, copy it to the MENU directory on your hard drive (or on a bigger 90min CD, if that's an option for you), and take the # sign off of your movie.ini file. You'll then be able to use the menus from your CD-ROM drive, and if you have a 32x CD-ROM or faster, you'll probably be able to play the movie and menus direct from there without any stuttering. However, I maintain that such continuous access will eventually burn out your CD-ROM, which uses dirt cheap technology to read the data from your disc, unlike a hard drive.

Now you should be set up. The funny thing is that it took me 2 hours to program those menus, another hour to write this Readme file, and I don't even like LOTR. I slept through it at the theater, and haven't watched it since.
