What a shock or maybe not really QoTD droped 70% from last Friday, can that trend continue and what is the largest drop ever from one weekend to next, Jon do you know, now if Darth23 was here he might know this answer :rolleyes
here is the top 11 I'd say that because there is a battle between FOTR what a surprise there and Count of Monte Cristo for 10
1 We Were Soldiers 5.545
2 40 Days & 40 Nights 4.402
3 John Q 2.425
4 Dragonfly 1.971
5 Queen of the Damned 1.765
6 Return to Never Land 1.277
7 Crossroads 1.201
8 A Beautiful Mind 1.187
9 Big Fat Liar 1.010
10 Lord of the rings 0.733
11 Count of Monte Cristo 0.705

I was expecting QotD to take a hit, but not by THAT much :eek. Moviegoers had given it a C+ rating last week so it always looked as though it would have a rocky road ahead.

Somehow that gives me hope in the human race afterall :)

Yeah I thought it would take at least a 50% hit but 70 is unbelievable. I still wonder what the worst drop ever is. Also I thought We were solidres did worse that I thought it would do. It looks like now it might do 17-20 million and a lot of people thought it might do 25-30, maybe people are just tired of war films that is my guess.

We Were Soldiers is the, what, 4TH war film to come out in less than 6 months (Behind Enemy Lines, Black Hawk Down and Hart's War being the other 3). I think the movie public might be getting a bit sick of war perhaps. :)

thats mainly because they didn't release any good movies this week and las weeks were duds

we were soldiers (i am sick and tired of war movies get off the damn kick hollywood their failing harts war bombed too)
40 days 40 nights (looks stupid)
Queen of the Damned (wasn't that good, it was ok but it could have been much better)
Dragonfly (when was the last time cosner mand a decent movie)

Thirteen Days was pretty good IMHO (though Costner's attempt at an accent left a little to be desired).

Yeah I think so plus its covered on CNN and Fox all the time from the War vs Terrorism, the mess in the Middle East to India vs Pakistan there is enough conflict on the air to keep the war hawks happy. So I agree people are tired of war films, actually that should help the Time Machine because its just a fun flick that people might end up flocking too.

As far as film dropping 75% I would have no idea what I can't think of anything recently, Jon might know he is the most knowledgable person probably on the US Box office since Darth23 went awal.

Thirteen Days was a good movie, a lot of people though weren't interested in seeing it but I guess its because it very documentary like.

The length didn't help matters either - I think it around 2 1/2 hrs (or more) in length.

Well it looks like QOTD didn't drop 70% for the weekend after all it fell 61% which is still terrible here is the top ten It is interesting to see FOTR it reentered the top 10 (it had been out of it for a few weeks) with 3.1 million and it has now made a little more than 287 million and it needs 13 million to make it to 300 and I think it will get there now

1We Were Soldiers 20.2
2 40 Days & 40 Nights 12.5
3 John Q 8.4
4 Dragonfly 6.8
5 Return to Never Land 6.5
6 Queen of the Damned 5.8
7 Big Fat Liar 4.8
8 A Beautiful Mind 4.4
9 Crossroads 4.0
10 Lord of the Rings 3.1

It's quite interesting to see We Were Soldiers do so well - after reading reports I thought everyone would be getting sick of war movies, but then again it does have Mel in it. :)

Also good to see FOTR back in the Top 10 (though it should thank the collapse of a few other movies for that). A drop of 10% only from last weekend should hopefully see it make the $300 million mark eventually.

Yeah, I'm feeling better about FOTR making it to 300M, and more importantly, my prediction of 303M! :D

if LOTR makes 300 million that will be only the 2nd time in box office history that 2 movies have made 300 million being released the same year

1994 lion king and forest gump did it

Jedi Master Carr
Mar 4th, 2002, 07:08:23 PM
That would be something, I think its safe to say that FOTR will make it to 300 million, heck it will probably do it before we get a 100 million dollar movie for 2002. Doesn't look like We Were Soliders will make it, probably make it to 90 maybe but 100 doesn't look likely. I guess The Time Machine is the next chance.

I saw ABM in fairly wide release in 2001. I saw it on the friday that LOTR opened if memory serves...

Jedi Master Carr

I think it was out in a limited release (maybe 500-700 theaters though) that weekend, I think it went wide the weekend after I think. I'd say its a 2001 movie mostly because the Oscars think it is so I guess we have to look at that way.

Thirteen Days has an Excellent DVD. Lot's of historical info there to keep Cold War entusiasts happy for days. I highly recommend it. Oh, the movie was one of Costner's better recent efforts. It's much better than something like 3,000 Miles of Crap/Graceland which I just saw on HBO.

I think that was For Love Of The Game.

Costner appears to have had a rough trot ever since Waterworld. ;)

Thirteen Days was a great movie IMO, For Love of the Game wasn't bad (it sure was better than that awful Elvis movie) I don't what has happened to Costner, he has sure fell far in recent years.

I've just found most of his recent films too sentimental/wishy-washy for my tastes. For Love Of The Game, Tin Cup, Dragonfly (from what I've heard), Wyatt Earp, Message In A Bottle etc etc etc. They all pretty much put him some sort of vulnerable, sentimental, quiet-type role which just doesn't suit him IMHO.

I like him best when he's in a strong-arm type role. Films such as Thirteen Days (despite the aforementioned accent problem), The Bodyguard and JFK I consider to be amongst his best.

I think after the critical success (don't know about BO success) of Field Of Dreams and A Perfect World (both of which I liked) he's kind of headed more in that type of direction which hasn't seemed to have worked out very well in the end. :\

Funny you should mention Kostner getting the same types of roles over and over. I used to always think of him as being cast as the "lone wolf in a post-apocalyptic world" type (The Postman, Waterworld, etc). :)

Jedi Master Carr
Mar 10th, 2002, 12:09:32 AM
The Postman must be the worst film that Costner has ever done.

Shawn
Mar 10th, 2002, 04:01:46 AM
I don't recall it being horrible. But then, when I haven't seen a film in a really long time, I tend to forget the bad parts.

(Then again, the only parts I remember is Kostner putting on the postal uniform and some sort of a fight in an arena... so that may explain that :p)

no, the worst Costner film is 3000 miles to gagland. :x

haven't seen 13 days yet... well I've slept through it...
