They put some sort of tofu product in my Hot and Sour soup! It tastes like I'm eating a marinated sponge!

I've only had hot and sour soup once, and it was absent of any tofu
Regardless, I did not enjoy it.

Heaven help you Viscera. You need to be culinarily cultured.

And the *crackers* included with the soup are bent out of shape and twisty, with cracks forming along the top! And they are too crispy. And I don't recall ordering my Hot and Sour soup spicy!

Hot? It's hardly hot! It's 55F, as is everything else that's been in the frig for 3 hours.

my recipe for hot & sour calls for hot sauce of choice. I prefer a southwestern sauce "Corazon del Fuego" or "Heart of the Fire" for you non-mexicans. Its tangy, and has the appropriate spices to hit the back of the tongue correctly, but not linger.

Bah. jabanwhatsitjero sauce all the way!

actually my favorite is a jim beam derivative hot sauce. Its incredibly good, with that nice bourbon smack to it. Unfortunately its tough to find, and doesn't exactly mesh with Hot & Sour

I'm not much for spicy foods... I'm flatulent enough as it is

I love spicy foods! They cut down on the length of time I have to spend commuting.

I always liked good Mexican or Chinese food. There're a few good places to eat about an hour from where I live. Great stuff.

I personally like Bean Curd Vegetable Soup. Nice flavor to it. Great when you have a cold.

Mhalbrecht, the problem with whole chilis is that they really aren't that useful in a dish other than as a garnish. You can't really pervade the flavor into a dish like that. You need either a crushed or minced pepper, hot sauce, or a pepper derivative.

I meant crushed.
Pure as in crushed and put in, instead of in sauce.

Even then, I wouldn't recommend without some other spices added. After all, hot sauce isn't just liquid pepper. Its more complicated than that.

The safeway down the street sells Jim Beam sauces. Lots. Thats one of main stuff my family uses in cooking.

Sanis Prent
Feb 28th, 2002, 08:14:10 PM
I make my own, Gue.

Also, another thing is to buy sh|take mushrooms, instead of the generic mushrooms other people use. They cost more, but the taste is so much nicer.

Well, I never had tofu at a reasturant before. I ment I rather had sweet and sour stuff in a soup. All I eat it on is chicken and some sea food...

Thai is the best food, I think, for the most flavor. I'm not saying it's the best, far from it, just that there are a multitude of sensations that only Thai can bring out in your tastes. If you want spicy asian, go for Korean. Maybe Japanese, but the Koreans invented kimchi, and it is very good indeed. I'm not sure how many, but there are a lot of varieties. Gok'doogee, Pa'kimchi... damn. Can't think of any others at the moment.

Basically what it is, is various vegetables sliced or cut in certain ways and dipped/soaked in a special spice sauce the Koreans probably have patened. You have to leave it soaking underground during the winter in jars for the full flavor. Good stuff :D
