View Full Version : Luke don't know diddly-squat about droids!

Luke's knowledge of ships may be good, but he doesn't know much about droids: he calls the R5-D4 with a bad motivator an R2 unit (when he's not calling it "Red"). Incidentally, in the novel, the R5's central servomotor is shot.

I remember arguing about this at TF.N in the hive of evilness, Classic Trilogy. Someone said it, the EU bashers leapt in saying "ONLY THE EU CALLS IT R5! Blah blah blah". Then I pointed out the toy was called R5, and someone else said the novel said R5(cant confirm that). They all shut up then :)

Anyway, I just assumed Luke wasn't up on Astromech's of recent times :)

It's much more convenient to call it R2 :smokin

R2 was probably a common droid, so calling it an R2 was like calling a Van a car, ya know?

And I mean, Luke is kindof stuck in the hillbilly family of the galaxy, so we can't really blame him for being an ignoramus.

See, the confusion comes with those new "Mini"-Vans.

Or those like ... Sport Mini Vans.

What I'm wondering is, did his uncle know he got the R unit type screwed up? Or were they both thinking that it was an R2 unit?

I call them overpriced, top-heavy, gas-guzzling monstrosities with exploding tires.

Plus, the classic station wagons. Those can hardly be considered cars...because, well, they're wagons! Maybe R-2 would be one of those.

I like sports cars. Ignorance is bliss.

The astromech equivalent of a truck...

There's also reference to ducks in that novel :)

The older SUV's are alright. The K-5's, S-10 blazers, broncos, cherokees, and the early grand cherokee. But lately, the stuff thats been coming out is just freakin retarded. Its like a black hole for people with money, to buy crap that is stupid.

Gimme my S-10 sport side extended cab custom any day over those paddywagons of death.

Jawa's can sell R5s as R2s. They should sell the Imperials a "Star Destroyer" Speeder :)

LOL! :) I can see that right now. Imperial officers zooming around Mos Eisley in SD speeders....

"Weeeeee!" ...

...pretending to be Darth Vader, shouting to passers-by "I find your lack of faith disturbing!"

Hey, I've said it before and I'll say it again-that was once! And honestly, I didn't think anyone was watching. So there.
