We've been waiting fifty years to get our gold back! Not only did we do that, the women got it too! I'm gonna be riding high on these bragging rights for four years!!! HAHA!!!

Congrats! I'm happy Canada got it. Although I was rooting for Team USA, there're players (and coaches) on Team Canada I like so I was happy with the silver.

In four years though...:D We'll get ya! ;)

Yeah, yeah. congrats n stuff. :grumble

Good game, though. When the US played Russia they had more 'fire', because they hate the Russians more than they hate their own teamates and Canadians.

Ritzer(sp) did awesome though. Great saves for the US.

Then again, I would have said that about speed skating two weeks ago.....

Australlia has a hockey team

Marcus Telcontar
Feb 24th, 2002, 08:52:49 PM
In Ice Hockey? Who cares.

In regular hockey, we most certainly do.

Admiral Lebron

I watched it. We didn't have the passion. Oh well. North America proves its best at hockey once again.

Define regular hockey.

Not on ice, they call it Hockey. I mean, duh :)

Ice Hockey is played in England, just not very mainstream, that's all. I go and watch my local team, but they aren't too well funded since I don't think there is too much of an interest what with Football and all.

Define regular hockey.

That would be hockey on grass, I would think :p Fun, excellent when it gets fast paced.

ReaperFett
Feb 25th, 2002, 03:52:04 PM
And they don't bother with all that padding. Real stick on shins action :)

Marcus Telcontar

Real hockey is awfully fast and quite good to watch. Lack of armour also makes it a tad more.... interesting at times as well :)

With a thread title of "Woohoo" you'd think I'd "wiped them out". :)

Lack of armour: Addition of steel blades on your feet. How about this for interesting?

Last Friday I was playing ice hockey and I went the boards with one of the players on the other team. His skate cut off a piece of my left palm just beside my thumb and then skidded up my arm to slice it open in a dozen places. Blood on the ice.

Some countries define 'regular hockey' as meaning ice hockey, with the hockey on grass being titled 'field hockey'. Duh. :p

Hockey was first, so they are wrong :)

Some people call Lacrosse Sky hockey. They should be shot. Many times.

Sanis Prent

I just call Lacrosse "strange virginian paradox"

Admiral Lebron
Feb 25th, 2002, 07:26:26 PM
It's actually like a Baltimore to NYC sport. Virginia is as far south as you'll see it.

Sanis Prent
Feb 25th, 2002, 07:28:38 PM
Yeah, its weird...cause people in america generally play the same sports...except for the wacky northeast :)

Admiral Lebron
Feb 25th, 2002, 07:29:34 PM
It's not our fault we have the best of both worlds. Heat to play summer sports, snow and ice for winter.

Orion Csalestes

We Yankees like to stake our divisibility from that rampant South. :p

Sanis Prent

You're one of those mason-dixon mutts.

And its not just the south! EVERYWHERE, sans the northeast. So its like 42 out of 50 states, don't play lacrosse.

I don't deny the presence of lacrosse leagues all over the nation. But I'm talking true popularity. Think about it...we're a nation of 300 million. I'm sure if you looked, you could also find a league of underwater basket weavers who got together and had a guy make a really pretty website.

There are even rally drivers in the USA I hear....

And to be honest, maybe racing drviers arent as injured as often.... but it is one hell of a lot more exciting and dangerous. Hitting trees at 120mph is not a plesant experience

Sanis Prent

Yeah, just ask Sonny Bono.

Orion Csalestes
Feb 25th, 2002, 10:05:04 PM
Ah, well I can't oppose you there. Personally, I hate the game itself, and much more when I had discovered its meaning only a few years ago.

But, at least the entire country was pulled into its bosom, rather than simply us Yanks. :p

Arya Ravenwing

That wasn't funny. :(

And Field Hockey and Ice Hockey are all well and good, but you haven't lived until you've played roller hockey in a parking lot in 100+ degrees with guys about twice as big as you.

Road rash..bruises...knockdowns... :D Now, I really LOVE that sport! Of course, technically its the same as the others, just different medium.

And how could running aorund be faster than skating??

I dunno. I dont have the right balance for skating. Cant skate to save my life.

Probably one reason I prefer car racing.

Sanis Prent
Feb 26th, 2002, 03:52:08 AM
Yeah I'm with Marcus on this one. Skating is tough. I skated on ice for the first time in my life in January, and it was hard! I mean, I didn't have the skates laced as tight as they could go, so my ankles wobbled badly. It was a bad experience.

Champion of the Force
Feb 26th, 2002, 03:57:43 AM
I haven't skated in years, but I used to rollerblade a lot back in the mid 90's. When I went down to Tasmania for a school camp and had a go at the ice rink in Hobart I was one of the few who could actually skate comfortably and not fall down. :)

Darth Viscera
Feb 26th, 2002, 04:05:08 AM

Having skiied before, I do find it funny. These resorts choose to maintain trees in the middle of the slopes, as if it's miniature golf or an obstacle course. I've run into a tree while skiing at 5mph, but not much faster than that. The dumba**itude required for a person to say, "Yeah, this resort looks good, but you know what would add atmosphere? Trees, by God!" is rather astounding. So yes, the idiocy involved does make it laughable.
