to upload their avatars directly to the SWFans database. It's far more convenient to just upload it directly here. And since all avatars are stored locally anyway, it's not like it makes much of a difference.

Nope. Since we opened the board, we've only allowed posters to enter the url of a picture, which the board then uploaded locally.

I wasn't aware that posters weren't already able to this, but I use the control Panel so infrequently it doesn't surprise me.

I've been using the feature to upload from hard drive from the Admin control panel for a while and do like it. I have no problem with allowing people to have access to the featire either and can't see any problems because of it.
