Awards annunced today. I found it odd FOTR did not win Period/Fantasy. Maybe it isn't as strong as we thought.

And the winners of the Art Directors Guild awards are...

For best Period/Fantasy feature film:
MOULIN ROUGE

For best contemporary feature film:
AMELIE

LOL Marcus
Actually I don't think it means anything maybe for Art Direction but again thats voted on by everybody so academy members who aren't specialists could have a different view.

JediMasterCarr my point is to the best of my knowledge it's 0 for 2 in Guild awards so far(also losing Cinematography). If it loses a few more of these I'm going to have grave doubts about a FOTR sweep come Oscar night.

I don't think it will sweep anyway, at best it would win 9 I think anything more than that is unlikely, I think it will win 5 but that is just a guess. Besides I don't think these guilds mean much since their voice matters almost nill to the rest of the academy voters.

Well 9 awards would classifly as a sweep in my book. No film ever wins ALL the awards. :P

Titantic and Ben Hur just about did, I mean it won't win all 13 some films have won everything it was nominated for, Silence of the Lambs comes to mind, I think it won 6 and was nominated for 6.

I'm not quite sure on SOTL I think it lost 1 award it was up for. There have been a "few" films that won everything but they were nominated for...but they've never been the films with 10+ nominations.

Ben Hur might have, it won 12 but I have no idea how many it was up for. IF SOTL lost something it must have been a techinical award because I know it won every big one that year, which was weird.

'Ben Hur' won 11..and it was up for 12. I for the life of me can't remember what category it lost...but it did lose 1. ;)

I thought Titantic and Ben Hur were tied with 12 wins? Or maybe it is 11? Maybe Heston was up for Best actor and lost:p

They're tied with 11 victories. 'Titanic' is also tied for most nominations ever with 'All About Eve'(14 each).
