View Full Version : Counter-Strike anyone?

Loki Ahmrah

Due to being bored senseless, I was wondering if anyone would want to join me for a good ol' game of Counter-Strike. Due to problems on my comp, I can only play on servers that have 24/7 games running on Dust or Assault. But hopefully that will be resolved in a few days time.

Anyone up for it?

I would host an RTCW game, but 100% of my uplink is being used.

But I don't have RTCW! :cry

Besides, your uplink is going to a good cause, me! >D

Counter Strike is very free if you have Half-Life, Zasz. Loki, I can send you any map that is giving you problems.

Visc... you have @home. Your upload is crap for hosting a game. You need a least a T1 to really make a decent server.

Anyway, if anyone wants to play CS, drop me an IP via AIM: iWhoSaysNi

As for Counter-Strike...

I have decent upload and I'm on @home

Morgan Evanar
Feb 21st, 2002, 07:06:29 PM
12~14k/ sec is not a decent upload. 25k is acceptable. Anything less is simply meh.

A good upload is 40k. Anything above that is simply nicer =].

And for game servers, please, don't host your own unless you've got a least a T1 behind you.

I'm on Comcast now. Same thing, though. Around 128Kb/sec up. (13KB)

Now, if only I lived in Utah and had $1000/month to burn, I could get DSDN and have 100mbps upstream and downstream. Lucky mormons.

Orrr you could live in Sweden and get 10mbs for $40~50/month.

Least thats what my friend has been telling me, big into the trance mp3 scene. He probably isn't fibbing... =p. I want.

Mmmm.... 1.5m ADSL. About to become uncapped. Yummy.

Soon - office = pwnd with Fibre Optic, right into the telco's backbone. They swear I will get 1/4 latency times of the ISDN. Doubt that, but Fibre is damn sweet, especially as we will be a node off the network backbone. I am sooooo looking forward to it.

MP3's? Those are sooo ten minutes ago. The newest thing for audio is Ogg-Vorbis RC3. You can use it for up to 255 channels, so 6-channel audio is no problem for DVD-Audio ripping. Much more efficient with those KB's, too. Xiph.org develops it for free, too. No royalty checks to the Fraunhofer Institute.

I'm getting 30-32 k now, and I'm lagged down by having my bro splitting the BW

Darth Viscera
Feb 21st, 2002, 07:31:26 PM
are you sure that's not your download speed? 30-32k is way over the cap.

The Southern Cross cable lit up in November 2000, removing the bandwidth bottleneck between Australasia and the United States.

Originally designed to deliver 120 gigabits per second (Gbit/s) of fully protected capacity, Southern Cross is planned to be upgraded to 240 Gbit/s by early 2003, with the potential to increase total protected network capacity to 480 Gbit/s at a future date.

Southern Cross now has the potential to provide for Australasia's bandwidth requirements for the next five years, delivering 480 times the capacity of the PacRim system - enough to transfer a 3km-high stack of typed documents or eight full-length motion pictures every second.

That's the cable one ATM router hop away from my Fibre Connection when it's intstalled.

Oh Viscera, I get WAY better than that
I may be on a diff @home from you.

Darth Viscera
Feb 21st, 2002, 07:57:26 PM
yeah, different regions are supposed to have different up caps on @Home.

Sith Ahnk
Feb 21st, 2002, 07:58:59 PM
I'm fairly sure mine is uncapped... my @home is, usually, faster than the DSL offered here.

Darth Viscera
Feb 21st, 2002, 08:06:31 PM
There aren't any uncapped @Home regions, and it takes a lot of work to uncap a modem, what with DOCSIS in place.

Sith Ahnk
Feb 21st, 2002, 08:08:40 PM
Ah well. *shrug* I'm not a tech junkie, I just know I pay half for about for times the speed of 56k

Marcus Telcontar
Feb 21st, 2002, 08:09:11 PM
Well there are other variables about cable vs DSL

Cable is often shared bandwidth aacross a local loop, while DSL is dedicated. Thence, if your on cable, you could be sharing the local loop bandwidth with several users at the one time. Cable is definaltly better on a lightly loaded local loop, sucks when the loop gets saturated.

Still, why complain about 32K or 36K? There are people out there in dialup with no other alternative. I'll take 32K over 4K anyday

Sith Ahnk
Feb 21st, 2002, 08:12:33 PM
Yeah, I'm one of two people on my local loop.
*discounting my brothers computer*
Most people up here are brainwashed by the Sprint commercial... they got the DSL/MSN explorer package.
Shaw and IE kick your ass.

Anyone play Rouge Spear?

I remember playing RS this one time at that bunker level with the trenches. I tked everyone when we started out, then camped and managed to not get the crap blown out of me when they started tossing frags at the window. When it was nearly down to flashbangs, I came out in the trench and they thought I was still in the pilbox and I came up behind 'em with my desert eagle. It was great. Real shoot-out trench warfare. :D I got called all kinds of names afterwards.

(see attached jpg to know what i'm talking about)

There we go. A headshot at several hundred yards while sniping with a Thompson, therefore without even a scope. And I have 40/40 vision! Muwhahaha! I am the RTCW lord! Approach within the range of my firearm bearing only an apple atop your head!
