Its 12:10 AM. I have been working on my IT project for five hours. My contacts are fused into my skull. Currently, we are nearly finished outlining our work centered analyses for solution provider operations. So...I guestimate we're 1/4th of the way there. Next, we have to outline our extended enterprise value chain, and decide where our product vendors and security clientele fit into the grand scheme. Top that off with guideline narratives, executive summary reports, web-enabling, full-feature executive presentation.

But on the plus side, I got to talk to lots of really nice receptionists at the international olympic committee and secret service. That was kinda cool.

Mu Satach
Feb 17th, 2002, 02:31:03 AM
I SAW THAT!!!

:lol that was awesome! All the speed skaters biffed it a few yards before the finish line and Steve just coasted across the finish line with the Gold!!!!

I LOVE IT!!! :D :D :D

Where's that Can of WTF? The whole of Australia needs it right now.

It's hit the headlines big time and all the news reporters and reaction is like...

"Is this a joke or something?" I honestly thought it was

That guy is the luckiest guy at the olympics! Aside from the russian pairs skaters.

Marcus Telcontar
Feb 17th, 2002, 02:40:05 AM
Sounds like the Russians didnt need luck - unfortunantly.

Still......what would you be thinking? Skaing along, glad to have made the final, no real chance.... and every person in front of you crashes out. I would LOVE to have known what was on his mind as he skated by the crash

Can of WTF
Feb 17th, 2002, 02:43:22 AM
*Rolls out towards LL then stops...pauses a bit...then races towards DT, suddenly bouncing up in the air and opening as it reached DT's arms.

The Australians did WHAT?!?!

Mu Satach
Feb 17th, 2002, 02:44:36 AM
Ok, so they were going into the final turn of the 1,000 meter when the Chinese guy crashed into the American guy, the american guy recoverd and continued into the turn and the Chinese guy spun out and hit the wall. As they came out of the turn the Korean guy tried to squeeze in to take the lead from the american where the chinese guy was... the Korean crashed taking out the canadian and then both of them took out the american, all 3 of them slid and crashed into the wall... Steve, the aussie was the only one left standing. :D

He just stood up and glided across the line and had this f'ckn cool ass look on his face of like, "OH MY GOD!"
:lol :lol
man that was priceless...

So then the 3 guys on the ice start scrambling towards the line, the american gets his skate across followed shortly by the canadian doing a bit of a belly flop slide. :D

by far this is the coolest thing I've seen in speed skating. :)

The american's skate cut his thigh a bit and needed 6 stitches but he's expected to recover in time to compete in 3 other races.

All 3 guys at the medal ceremony were smiling and happy.

All in all... a very cool day. :D

Ahead going into the final turn, Ohno was taken out by another skater. He crashed into the boards on his back, then spun up and staggered across the finish line to win the medal. The crash cost Ohno, 19, his shot at a possible four golds in the Winter Games. Steven Bradbury of Australia, who trailed badly for most of the race, came from nowhere to win the gold medal _ the only skater standing. Canada's Mathieu Turcotte got up in time to claim the bronze.

Speed Skates = $300

Helmet = $ 50

Airfare to Slat Lake City = $2000

The look on your face as you see everyone else crash and you win the gold medal = Priceless

For everything else, there is Master Card

Lilaena De'Ville
Feb 17th, 2002, 03:22:52 AM
I think that issue was settled in Utah, actually. And it wasn't the Russians' fault. It was the crooked judge. Or whatever it was. Don't blame the skaters, they were just skating and doing their best.

I think it has ended as well as it is going to. Two medals is fine. (four, actually..hmmm)

And Charley... *hugs*

Marcus Telcontar
Feb 17th, 2002, 03:25:30 AM
Yeah, were talking about AUSSIES!!!!

And the fact a place with no frikking snow won a Gold Winter Olypmics medal.....

I still cant wrap my mind around that.

Feb 17th, 2002, 03:29:08 AM
sorry for kinda overwhelming the threads LL... but you've got to try and catch a report about the speed skating crash if you can... you don't see things like this very often. :)

btw - what are you doing your project for?

I saw the very end of that, just when the scores came up or whatever and I was like.....Australia is first?? o_O

Its for a venue security system kiosk interface, designed to reduce response times on police dispatches.

Nice project actually LL.

Frank Harrigan
Feb 17th, 2002, 05:01:26 AM
Well, I'm proud of Australlia... he skated hard and he DID cross the line first
But this just goes to show all those sterotypes abou asians apply to ice too... not that I believe in sterotypes, I hate everybody equally ;)

Marcus Telcontar
Feb 17th, 2002, 05:10:21 AM
Up to now Australia hardly knew the Winter Olympics were on.

Now we find we have SPEED SKATERS!?!? To be honest, I had absolutly no idea they existed here. We do have one decent aerialist, Jackie Cooper, but that seemed to be about it Winter Olympics wise. We have never heard of this 100m speed skating event or this Steve bloke and he won?!?!

I know it's really cool and all, but doesnt that seem just a bit wrong?

I'll post some of the news reports from the papers tomorrow. Some of the headlines will be classics

I do have to say, in respect to that Figure skating scandal, Canada did get right royally screwed over. That was just plain wrong. I'm glad to see they got acknowledged, but it sucks it happened in the first place.

The more I look at that flow diagram, the more confident I am that our system totally rocks. :)

Its cool, cause I doubt that any of the other groups working with this technology are using it anywhere remotely in the manner we are :D

Frank Harrigan
Feb 19th, 2002, 12:52:20 AM
I would use it to tazer people who shoplift

Charley
Feb 19th, 2002, 09:19:52 AM
Of course that was one of the first ideas we had to use this technology for. But it was too generic. We figure everybody will be using something like that.
